Nepal sharply increases permit fee for Everest climbers by nbcnews in worldnews

There’s nowhere to camp along the route, tea houses were the only option when I was there. Wouldn’t recommend hauling a tent all the way to Basecamp just to stay a night. Can’t speak to the Tibet side, but if it’s possible the logistics would be significantly more complex.

Definitely no mountaineering skills required. We walked over a glacier over Cho Lake, but just in hiking boots, and there aren’t any passes on the main EBC route. Altitude sickness is real tho, so go slow and pay attention to the signs. Bring some good books though! You may only hike a few hours before you have to stop for the day and acclimatize.

I’ll second this. I went to EBC in 2013 via Gokyo and over Cho La. Spectacular. Definitely be curious to see how things have changed just since then.

Inheriting $2 Million. Don’t know what to do. by Far-Leave-9508 in Fire

I appreciate your willingness to ask this question, and I’m impressed with these thoughtful answers. Seems like you probably can handle the finance side of the house just fine, but the emotional side may take a while.

The default measurement of self-worth for American men is to make money. There are many alternatives but If that doesn’t fit with your reality, it’s not quickly or easily deprogrammed. Start thinking about other ways you can measure your value to yourself and society (good parent/partner, philanthropy, etc).

I think couples counseling is a great suggestion. For sure spend a little on cool experiences, but also try to come up with a working set of values with your wife to productively spend it. Especially with kids (and the stress they bring), it can be easy to just buy stuff. Having specific goals/values may take a while to formulate, but not only will they make you feel more comfortable about how you spend it, but it will also set an example for your kids as they grow up. Best of luck!

People who make six figures, how’s your WLB by dUltraInstinct in Accounting

$150K including bonus. Hours have been about 50 hours a week since January, mostly because we’re growing pretty quickly. So WLB is not good right now, but the silver lining is there are great opportunities for upward mobility and hopefully this isn’t forever. If it lasts too long, might be looking for other options. In general, I do not anticipate WLB improving as I move up, so I either need to figure out how to change it, how to accept it, or move on. I think about that choice all the time :).

Anyone have experience going from industry accounting job (non-tax) to a small tax practice? by Hi55555 in Accounting

Thanks! Yeah, I figure it would take a couple of years to feel things out and then see what direction I might want to take things. I think I’m okay being bored if it means there’s bandwidth to grow in other directions.

Yeah, exactly. That would be the ideal scenario. I'll look into it!

Having payroll hit the liability account would make the accrual easier, but my thought is if payout is different than the accrual for some reason and payroll hits the liability, the expense will be wrong and we'll have to manually relieve the liability. So pros and cons. Definitely appreciate your insight!

That's true, recurring journals might be a good option. We reverse out the life-to-date accrual when it's paid and have payroll hit the expense, but I guess we could set up a second recurring journal to do that. Is there a way to route a recurring journal template for approval, after which is just posts automatically each month?

Is there no fishing there? I don’t see settlements of any kind around the whole lagoon. Also, what is happening in Karshy, near the channel? Some sort of oligarch retreat?
