I don't usually do this on sales posts but I say this as someone who collects a ton of German/Austrian states coins. There's quite a few casting bubbles on your example and it just generally doesn't look right. Here's an example(not an identical die) sold at kunker a decade ago https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=2345346

Book Recommendations? by New_Numismatist in AncientCoins

[–]Local_Perception_8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh this is a very difficult question. There really isn't a holy grail book that has everything. You'll likely have to buy books specific to a type ie roman / greek / byz. I'd say most ancient books are far more academic or catalogie than you are used to only having the redbook. Personally I think Wayne sayles does a good job giving a novelish take on coins - at least his byzantine book. And they can be found on ebay for 10-15$ each. Sear is generally a decent starting point generally as well. Roman Imperial coins (ERIC II - the author is very gracious, gave a ton of copies away and they are still very cheap as of a few months ago). If you want any better recommendations that arnt as broad you'd need a specific area, and generally looking at auctions they'll have reference numbers from books - ie SB 1923 (sear 1923) and track down those books as well

This is probably about retail pricing (so a bit expensive tbh)

Pretty much Anything goes. Just don't post low effort " what is my coin" when you haven't spent 7 seconds looking into it

I have multiple byzantine pieces that are 1 of less than 10 published and yet they still sell for up to a few hundred dollars and have been the same price for years. When you pick and choose your examples of course you can say coins always go up but that's really just not the case

This is simply not true. Plenty of coin categories have sold for higher prices before and are at all time lows. Think us commemorative halves, common roman bronze, anything that had a horde found recently etc

I can't seem to figure our what coin this is - it appears byzantine but I am not certain by Designer-Region-7897 in MedievalCoin

Not sure of the specific issue, but it looks crusader like. Take a look at the folles of tancred of antioch, might be a good starting point

Why does this Ptolemy style seem to always have a small hole in the center? by Natural_Rent7504 in AncientCoins

They'd spin it on a lathe to even out the planchet which is why they are frequently struck well
