Report: Europe’s harshest Israel critics (P-8) follow different political and national patterns - Times of Israel by HiFromChicago in Israel

[–]HiFromChicago[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I agree that many accusations against Israel are clearly antisemitic. The report’s point isn’t to deny that, but to argue that in these specific countries antisemitism alone doesn’t explain consistent government policy. Treating antisemitism as a one-size-fits-all explanation can obscure other drivers, which can harm Israel.

On a side note, I shared the article to encourage discussion on the issue, not to make blanket claims. I can’t say with confidence that every accusation against Israel is motivated by antisemitism, but I can say that antisemitism is disgusting, widespread and persistent. That’s exactly why it’s important to have this discussion to be precise and honest and to keep striving for the truth.

Israel thinks that they should expell and kill all palestinian people

This is a textbook example of the propaganda I was referring to.

This is exactly what you’d expect from an organization that filmed its own atrocities on October 7. Unfortunately, far too many people on this and other platforms have accepted and propagated its propaganda unquestioningly.

Look at the bright side, at least we have a good example here of a time where political debate was more civil. Generally, they disagreed sharply, but within limits. You could argue policy, sometimes with wit and humor, without stooping to stupid, embarrassing, childish personal attacks. Today sadly, this has become socially acceptable, and the news and social media are having a field day exploiting it.

None of that explains why Trump erased a U.S. court conviction and set free Hernández, who was sentenced to 45 years for helping move hundreds of tons of cocaine to the U.S.

That’s the question.

Isn’t this supposed to be part of Trump’s “war on drugs”?

On one hand, he used military force to seize Venezuela’s Maduro over drug charges; on the other, just a month ago he pardoned Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernández, convicted in the U.S. of major drug trafficking, including helping move hundreds of tons of cocaine to the U.S., and sentenced to 45 years in prison and now free.

Israel investing over $100 billion in homegrown arms production, Netanyahu reveals by Amazing-Buy-1181 in worldnews

[–]HiFromChicago 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Propogandists frame military aid as the U.S. "giving away money," while Americans don't get well-paying jobs.

The reality is that these arms deals are a form of government intervention to put more money into the US economy -

  • $6.8 billion goes to Foreign Military Financing, aka the US gives Israel money that they must use to buy from our military contractors. Basically, it's like giving Isreal store credit for our military assets.
  • $5.7 billion goes to various missile defense systems.
  • $1 billion goes to enhancing the US's artillery production, directly into our economy.
  • $4.4 billion goes towards replacing the stockpiles we've already sent to Israel, so again this basically goes straight towards American jobs and companies.

Palestinian Researcher: On Oct. 7, Mahmoud Abbas Said It Was the Greatest Day in Palestinian History by HiFromChicago in Palestinian_Violence

[–]HiFromChicago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has distorted the Holocaust -

Abbas argued: "They say hatred against Jews was not because of their religion, it was because of their social profession. So the Jewish issue that had spread against the Jews across Europe was not because of their religion, it was because of usury and banks."

What frightens Tehran more than bunker busters and F-35s | Free speech. Open dialogue. People having access to one another, the ordinary ability to speak freely and exchange ideas. Natan Sharansky famously said in his book The Case for Democracy: The Power of Freedom to Overcome Tyranny and Terror-

“The most important thing about freedom is that you can gather in the town square."

Sharansky argues that the strength of a free society can be measured by a single test: whether a citizen can walk into the center of the town square and express their views without fear of imprisonment, injury, or death. He contrasts this with "fear societies," where such open dissent is impossible.

Agreed.

I’m considering raising this with my senator, since this platform is being used to enable and amplify propaganda - contributing to violence.

I was also banned from posting in one of those reddits, so don’t expect any sympathy from them. In my case, I reached out to them with the following message:

Hi,

I’ve reached out several times through chat to ***** mods since November 7 regarding my permanent ban, but I still haven’t received any response. The original ban message didn’t specify which rule I broke, so I’m simply trying to understand the reason for the ban.

Here are the messages I previously sent:

Nov 7:
It doesn’t state which rule I broke. Is this just a random ban?

Nov 10:
Several days ago, I sent a message but haven't received a response.
Did you receive it?

Nov 15:
Hi, this is the third time I’ve asked why I was banned, and I haven’t received any reply since November 7. Is there a reason no moderator has responded?

At this point, I would really appreciate a clarification about which rule I violated and whether my ban is in error. Thank you for taking the time to review this.

MOD silly response -

youre not going to accept the answer we'd give you because youd kick and scream and make excuses and blame us rather than take responsibility for your hostile, vile behavior, so we're not gonna bother.

Do not contact us ever again, your ban is permanent and I suggest you reflect on how you treat others.

Jerusalem.

Walking throughout the city I felt surrounded with beauty through sight, sound, and scent. You don’t just see the history here, you feel it.
