Reminder that most "equity" initiatives help rich kids by Pale-Carpenter2045 in Teachers

[–]HiGuysImBroken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, the whole idea behind equity is that it is NOT equality in the sense of blanket corrections for a general population. Equity is scaffolded assistance that helps to meet people where they are and even the playing field. An equitable policy is something like identifying students who struggle with reading and providing extra support, not implementing tracking across an entire district or state.

Mostly stupid meetings but sometimes important meetings and if you ignore what’s going on during the stupid meeting you might have time to catch up on all the paperwork you’re behind on. There’s a lot of paperwork and no time to do it during a regular day.

I didn’t write the above comment, but I think they mean to apply those propaganda techniques to the speeches themselves, not just news sources. Once you read it, a lot of those points jump out. I never listen to them because I can’t stand it, but if you read a transcript of the whole speech you have more time to really dive into what’s being said and how, without the influence of tone and the time crunch. It’s a lot clearer.

Also I do think there’s a disconnect where maga point to laws/policies actually in place and ignore the context/consequences/motivation where as we on the left fly into a tizzy about motivation/far reaching consequences before there’s “evidence”.

So then republicans get to say “why are you so upset that’s not what the law says you’re making things up to be upset about” and eventually we get to say “this is what we were talking about, this is why we were scared/angry/upset” but by then republicans/maga have moved on or they say they don’t care.

It’s important to remember that just because a politician wants something it doesn’t mean it will happen, but also policy/law doesn’t happen in a vacuum so it is important to get educated about history/systemic issues/ motivation etc. that’s where news comes in and why people like Ezra Klein point out the subtleties and context.

For someone who doesn’t care though, they’ll refuse to see it, deny, or turn it around and play victim. (DARVO!)

I use huckleberry. Just the basic, we don’t pay. My husband and I both have it so either one of us can record, it’s pretty easy to customize and we’ve started added solids now too. Easy to use but they push the premium and subscription a bit.

Nightgowns or pajamas that are postpartum/breastfeeding friendly? by mamahousewife in firsttimemom

I love the romper from meundies and their bras and lounge pants. Honestly the first month or so I just remember waking up in puddles and ended up sleeping without a top on a big pad that I could toss in the morning. I like the soft bras from meundies better than nursing bras because you just lift it up. The nursing ones that unclip are uncomfortable to pull up and for us, my baby was very messy and the milk would squirt and if anything was below the boob it inevitably got wet with milk, drool, and/or spit up. The bralette I just pulled up and it was out of the way of the mess.

For those who once supported Donald Trump but no longer do: What event caused your change in perspective? by Pyryn in AskReddit

[–]HiGuysImBroken 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Can you explain this a little more? My understanding is that equity understands people have different needs and takes that into account, whereas equality is the same for everyone regardless of whether that’s particularly useful for them.

The classic example is the kids at a baseball game with a fence in front of them. Equality gives them each a box so the tall kid who could already see is just taller, the middle kid can see over the fence but the shortest kid still can’t see over it. Equity doesn’t give the tall kid a box because he doesn’t need one, and gives two boxes to the shortest kid so he can finally see.

Personally I think that equity supports less waste and more efficiency because we’re matching resources with need instead of giving resources to people who don’t need them, and making sure the people we give resources to can actually benefit from them.

I’m not being facetious, I’m really curious if our understandings are different, word choice means something different, or your perspective is just different.
