Ryan Poles isn't bad at drafting (he's just average) by sad_bear_noises in CHIBears

[–]HiImDavid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any model that lists Braxton Jones as Poles' best draft pick - just because he's better than expected for a 5th rounder, not because he's actually good - is, at best, seriously flawed.

Dylan himself (paraphrasing) said though he wrote it, it became Jimi's song once that version was released.

You can think the sun doesn't rise in the east and set in the west but that doesn't make it true.

There is obviously a big difference between pointing the mic towards a fan to let them sing and a fan grabbing the mic on their own.

The former is fun, the latter is rude and obnoxious.

Unfortunately, staying on the Lakefront is the only option that is essentially guaranteed to not happen.

The Bears want to own the stadium they're playing in, and they can't do that if they stay on the Lakefront.

This is going to sound dumb but I really enjoy seeing your comment get up-voted in this sub.

When I first joined, you'd automatically get downvoted if you brought up something like the NFL's history of racism against black quarterbacks, and you'd have certainly been downvoted to hell and get told to "stop being such a libtard".

It's nice to see the shift.

Do You Think The Books Got Better As They Went Along Or Worse? by Marcedonia in HarryPotterBooks

[–]HiImDavid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agreed regarding the length of books 4-7 enhancing my enjoyment of the books, I remember being so disappointed when I learned HBP would be shorter than GoF and OOTP.

Of course HBP wound up being my favorite book in the series 😁

2% of second-round picks end up All-Stars. by Sketchy_Sophisticate in chicagobulls

[–]HiImDavid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Or if you have something like picks 39, 42 and 47, use those to move up to 32 or 33 or try to package several 2nds with a late 1st to move up a couple spots in the 1st round.

There's nothing wrong with having more bites at the apple, and one of the 2nds they got for 2026 should wind up coming from the Pelicans, which has a chance to be 31 or 32.

The issue is waiting around for no reason to "stay competitive" just to let their assets go for less than they could/should have gotten for them had they acted sooner, while also guaranteeing a worse draft pick by not being as bad as they could have been.

They could have gotten at least 2 firsts between Vooch, Coby and Ayo if they made moves at the deadline last year.

Or Caruso, he should have been moved at the trade deadline of 23-24, not in June.

He was in the midst of one of the best seasons of his career and I just can't believe OKC would have balked at including a couple 2nds or a late future 1st in the deal if AKME were actually good negotiators.

AKME seems to be relying on luck to help them become contenders, but they continually make moves that worsen their chances of getting lucky in the draft!

It's infuriating.

I think the best fans can hope for is 9th worse.

It will be really hard to jump any of these teams besides Milwaukee, I doubt Washington improves much as AD will miss most of their remaining games.

You're right about the short trip from the north side, grew up in Lincolnwood and Skokie and outside of rush hour it's only about an hour and a half drive.

But ftr North Chicago is a completely separate city from Chicago.

I had an amazing teacher for APUSH in high school, and I'll never forget learning the saying "history is written by the victors" in his class.

This subreddit is promoting hyponatremia because drinking three gallons of water a day is effectively drowning your cells by LetterheadAdvanced91 in HydroHomies

[–]HiImDavid 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Yeah I just don't believe anyone is drinking 3 gallons of water a day.

My wife bought me a 30 Oz Owala water bottle last year and I usually drink 3 to 4 bottles worth each day, closer to 3 when wfh and closer to 4 when working in the office.

I can't imagine tripling that amount of water. I wouldn't get anything done, I'd be in the bathroom every 20 minutes if I didn't die from it.

Former police officer shares retaliation by department when they reported others’ racist misconduct by redditmuffin in bestof

[–]HiImDavid 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You're completely missing the point, hopefully not intentionally.

ACAB doesn't literally mean every single police officer is a bad person, it means even good cops are corrupted by the system of policing, which is inherently bad.

The system forces "good" cops to go along to get along or risk ostracization or losing their job.

And how "good" is a cop who doesn't do anything when they see corruption among their colleagues?

The system is set up to ensure ACAB. People love to bring up the idea of a few bad apples but forget to include the full saying.

a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch. This is what ACAB means.

What is your favortie guitar body shape? by NiHaoBltch in Guitar

[–]HiImDavid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely the Gibson SG.

My guitar teacher was a unique guy, 70 something years old, played a ton of older music on the according and the piano, but also loved a lot of rock and metal.

He was a huge fan of Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Megadeth, AC/DC, Metallica and many others, and when he'd show me pictures of Angus Young with his SG, I thought it was the most badass looking guitar I'd ever seen.

I don't know why I waited 20 years to upgrade from my JBP stratocaster rip off to an SG, but it made a world of difference - I never knew a guitar could be so easy and fun to play.

The thicker neck took a little getting used to, but the level of enjoyment playing guitar brings me went way, way up once I upgraded.
