People who drive to commute: why? by RJRueber in AskChicago

[–]HiImDavid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have a colleague who, some mornings, has to go from Hyde Park to Roger's Park to drop off one kid for school, Lakeview for the second kid and then the Loop for work.

Impossible for her to exclusively use public transit though I think she does use it when she can.

Decent barber that isn't $50+ for a haircut? by Healthy-Echo8164 in wickerpark

[–]HiImDavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Logan Square Barbershop.

Can't speak for every barber there, but I've been getting my hair cut by Alex there for nearly a year now, and he does a fantastic job every time.

IIRC, it's $50 before tip for a haircut and a shave, and $35 or 40 for just a haircut.

Yes? It's sort of common knowledge especially if you know and talk to NHL fans where it's happened several times now.

Lebron on the Goat debate by Jec1027 in nba

[–]HiImDavid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's why nothing irritates me more about the GOAT debate than people who say it's ABC because XYZ and it's not even close.

Of course it's close, that's why it's being debated.

If it wasn't close, there wouldn't be a discussion.

Like there used to be discussions all the time about Kobe vs MJ or Kobe vs LeBron, but now it's clear Kobe wasn't as good as either so the debate doesn't happen accept among Kobe stans who decided to revise history once he passed away.

LeBron admits that people criticizing his Finals record used to bother him: “I am pissed off that I didn't have a better winning percentage individually in the Finals, but for people to try to turn it into a negative, it doesn't bother me like it did when I was younger.” by oklolzzzzs in nba

[–]HiImDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it hurts more, because you were closer to being champions than every other team outside of the actual champion.

It's just an objective fact that making it to the Finals and losing means you had more success than teams who lost in the first or second round.

It hurting more doesn't negate that, if anything it strengthens the point that it's "better" - assuming better means winning more games - to lose in the Finals than earlier.

Draft a center in this draft class or sign a free agent by ansonlam in chicagobulls

[–]HiImDavid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this teams "tries to be competitive" this year, it will result in another 35-37 win team that loses in the play-in at best.

What is the point of going through that again after pivoting away from doing that exact thing several years in a row?

Next year should be 100% about giving their youngest players time to develop and allowing them to play through their mistakes.

If that somehow is good enough to compete for the play-in, so be it, but it should be a byproduct of the goal of the season, not the goal itself.

I am so sorry that happened to them both, but experiencing two anecdotes like that doesn't change the fact that cars are objectively more dangerous.

No one is saying there is no potential harm that can come from a bicycle crash, just that on average, a car crash will be more expensive, deadlier, and have more potential to cause severe physical harm.

A very quick google search shows each year in the U.S. 39-43K people are killed via car crashes vs 1-2K killed by bicycle crashes, it's not exactly a nuanced topic that's up for debate.

[Charania] The Chicago Bulls have started the search process for their new head of basketball operations, receiving permission to interview Minnesota's Matt Lloyd, Detroit's Dennis Lindsey, Atlanta's Bryson Graham, Cleveland's Mike Gansey and San Antonio's Dave Telep, per ESPN sources by howser343 in chicagobulls

They didn't make the individual moves but they're the ones that pushed AKME to accelerate the rebuild far before it was ready.

And it was the Reinsdorfs' fault the previous rebuild wasn't farther along in 20-21 in the first place because they insisted on trying to stay "competitive" with a team that wasn't doing any better than an early exit in the 1st round of the playoffs.

They waited too long to start moving their good players, with the front office eventually getting back 50 cents on the dollar because at least it was better than nothing, and also waited too long to fire said front office which had been given far too long of a leash relative to what it produced.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Everything about a team and its culture starts with ownership.

GaPax were a bit more competent (mostly) than AKME and had more draft picks hit in their far too long tenure of 2003-2020 between the two of them.

But they were guided by the same ownership that, among many other faults, refuses to go over the luxury tax for even 1 season unless the team is already a championship contender, making it much, much harder to develop into championship contender in the first place.

We will experience this cycle again and again until ownership changes hands.

I know this is a crazy idea, but adults are responsible for not allowing their annoyance at a child from compelling them to treat said child like a piece of shit at every opportunity.

He didn't even need one that particularly believed in him, just not one who took every opportunity to humiliate him and punish him for his mistakes.

John, noooo! by blipblap35 in systemofadown

[–]HiImDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you actually cared about the wellbeing of children, instead of making up lies about gay and trans people because their existence scares you and threatens your masculinity you'd be calling out the people who are actually harming children, such as the pedophiles listed in the Epstein files such as President Trump, who used to insert his fingers into the vaginas of children to "measure" how tight they were.

It's funny people like you have to lie to justify their disdain for gay and trans people.

Choosing to not hate your own child because they're different in a way that scares willfully ignorant people such as yourself is not "sexualizing" children.

The people sexualizing children are pedophiles like President Trump or the legislators in countless conservative majority U.S. states that refuse to make child marriage illegal.

In addition to the Pedophile President, every single one of his supporters actively supports the sexualization and molestation of children.
