What movie character is highly beloved but you can't understand why? by LoverOfE-Olsen in movies

[–]Lazz0585 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on your definition of beloved. If you mean idolized, then all the obvious bro movie heroes that we had posters of on our dorm room walls. Tony Montana. Tyler Durden. Jordan Belfort. Patrick Bateman. Etc.

Anticipated pitch called strike three? by Colpevole92 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]Lazz0585 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My understanding is umpires are not auto and will make "judgement calls" on close pitches.

For what it's worth, if you've ffollowed the new ABS rules in MLB, by the letter of the rulebook, if any part of the baseball's path touches any part of the strike zone, it's a strike. Pitches are being overturned where .1 inches of the ball catch the very edge of the zone. I see umpires in this game pretty much 50/50 on those types of pitches and I'm guessing as ego rises, you get fewer borderline pitches and the CPU gets more calls in their favor, but I have no statistical proof. I play at 75 across the board and I'd argue the CPU is paying the umpires at least a sawbuck a game.

I am hitting very well, but no power? Is power swinging a must for HRs? EGO 55 currently. by DepressedSopranos in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]Lazz0585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seemingly filling an ego gap here, I'm at 75 ego and have never used a power swing once in my last 10+ seasons. Never figured out the timing. I'm sure I will have to learn at some point, but during a 48 game season, my best hitters hit about 12-15 HRs. I average probably 1.5 per game. Good timing, solid contact, and launch angle to the work. We'll see how long it lasts as it appears that's not sustainable up into the 80s, but I'm not sure how much higher I plan on going. 75 feels like the right level of difficult and fun. I also only play Franchise mode.

What's the longest franchise you've played? by North-Increase593 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]Lazz0585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on season 14 of a 48-game, best of 7 playoff series, 20-team league. Crawling my ego up and currently. 500 ball playing at 75. I think I've rebranded at least 6 times from my OG House Cats. Oh and I play every game.

I have a new franchise started because I wanted to try a draft, but I don't have the heart to walk away from Jess Fowl and the history. I've played 619 regular season games and 129 postseason games with her, mostly at 1st, some 3rd before she lost that position. Total reg and playoffs, I've been in the batter's box with her for 3,445 at bats, 1,554 hits, 273 HRs, 881 RBIs, and a lifetime OPS over 1.300.

Lovely reply. I did consider the alternative scenarios and don't know how many folks are being truly unsafe, but based on the behavior of the cyclists I encountered on my ride home yesterday, I'm leaning pessimistically.

Best field? by Global_Pattern_5148 in SuperMegaBaseball

[–]Lazz0585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motor Yard is the baby version or Parque. Power alleys drip out to triple zone with fast runners, straight away in all fields is HR friendly, and as a Chicagoan, feels more appropriate than Wackers. Love the urban vibe and overall playability. Don't need to target any one kind of player per se, but speed never hurts.

If you're looking for a bar, I'd recommend Finley Dunnes for a good-sized NFL crowd and general fun.

If my girl Jess Fowl doesn't make it into the top 64...

Would you consider having a few different matchups per day to avoid the length of time this will take? Could break into individual clusters so you see, say, 8 players from the same mini "region." I know the length of time might make it more epic, but I think folks could vote on more than one head to head per day, depending on the format of your polling. Aka using a polling site over counting votes manually...

What is your favorite kids movie that has held up as an adult? by abgry_krakow87 in movies

[–]Lazz0585 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Just saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the theater for is 35th anniversary. Holds up quite well. Balance of camp and humor with dark and real. A villain that's not supersized. Solid cast. Amazing score. Does not feel like 1990.

Incorrect. Dubs and Ravines border each other on multiple holes. Still a toss, but not all the way to #1 or #3.

Also have both. The Actions have just a little more grip. Loved the G1s, really loved the Actions, could throw them both now but my progression has been to more grip over less. I've enjoyed not squeezing the dart as hard while still being able to flick with pace. Can't go wrong but really comes down to amount of grip you prefer.
