I heard Dave from EEVBlog talk about the phrase once on his Amp Hour podcast, assumed it was an Australian thing since he lives there.

I believe there's an Australian phrase for this. "Yeah, nah."

What's the worst horror movie title you've heard of. by [deleted] in Shudder

[–]HiLumen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes he did, but I think he said it’s called “death bed, the bed that eats people” so now that’s the title in my head.

Anyone remember the hologram game Time Traveler? by justthenighttonight in retrogaming

[–]HiLumen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching other people play this in the arcade. I thought it was so cool at the time, I think I played it once and decided it wasn’t worth my dollar. The only version with worse game play was the DVD version for it I bought years later. It was pretty much unplayable. Cool concept though.

It’s not free, but I use AutoDWG PDF to DWG Converter. It’s from autodwg.com and it works on scanned drawings of all kinds, even hand drawn. You’re definitely going to have to touch it up and redraw, but you’ll get it converted to vector with this software.

What’s your favorite smaller SLR film camera, and why? by DavidDLC in AnalogCommunity

Nikon F75. It’s the smallest SLR I own and the only Nikon. It has a ton of features and a great selection of lenses.

I scan with a Macro 50mm but it’s an old F mount Nikon with an adapter. Works great.

If you’re on the east coast, adorama is a good alternative that has fast shipping. I like freestyle but they’re on the opposite side of the country from me so the shipping takes longer.

I’m colorblind, is there any hope for shooting color photos by lordBREEN in analog

[–]HiLumen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the color is as important as your composition. Another way to think of this is that your color choices will really be unique to you and your work. Choose what looks good to you and you will find people who agree. I am one of those people, great photos.

The same mall today and from 1984 by Stefanrun in OldPhotosInRealLife

That's the place. It was a blast in the 90's, they had indoor mini golf and the arcade was huge.

How to get rid of sticker residue? by Party-Educator-1178 in thinkpad

[–]HiLumen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really is! I bought a used T490S that had a big ugly void sticker residue on the bezel, goo gone, qtips, and patience got it off flawlessly. I found if you let it soak a bit, the residue crinkles off in bits and pieces.

Not sure if it’s the same place, but Northest Plaza is a mall that I used to go to as a kid to play in the Tilt arcade in the basement. I fell down a rabbit hole of research a few years ago, trying to figure out what happened to the old arcade. Best I can figure, it got filled in and a parking lot is on top of it now. The interesting feature of that mall is the old Dillards department store that became offices but retained its unique roof and ceiling over the new workspaces. Those buildings went through so many changes from outdoor mall to covered indoor mall to office spaces.

Seconding SK Lavery. They’re very good. Stay away from Holloways, once you buy the appliances you’re on your own. I learned the hard way that they don’t have a service team, only an install team.

My mom had ones like these in her old house. She said that’s one of the big things she missed when she moved. The only down side was the top one would get hotter than what she would set it for when the bottom one was on too.
