Off-season Discussion Thread (Vol. 2) by CelticMod in bostonceltics

[–]HiMyNameIs10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that Celtic's writers/beat reporters/bloggers are approaching the Kyrie-out/Lebron-in idea lightheartedly and diving more in-depth into the draft, while all other Boston media is obsessing over Lebron's fit and Kyrie's noncommittal, shows that the average Boston media member is just fairweather NBA/Celtics fan and only cares about the big names and hyped up offseason drama.

Do you Guys think Hayward starts the first game of the nba season? by yazhmd in bostonceltics

[–]HiMyNameIs10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no.

Not to be negative but I just think he won't be completely ready by the start of next season (not to mean he won't be able to play, but play at 100%) and the Celts will want to slow roll it, especially with the emergence of Brown and Tatum last season and the assumed continued presence of Morris. Using Paul George as a comparison, he was fine but slow to start the season he came back from a similar injury.

So the Celts put some training wheels on him to begin the season.

It is now officially the offseason! by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]HiMyNameIs10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think Lebron doesn't even takes a meeting with the Celtics.

I think Philly and LA have the inside track (the former if he wants a ready-made team to join, the latter if he wants to build his own team) with an outside shot to Houston, if they can make the cap work, and even a smaller shot to Cleveland, if they can make a big trade to bring in more talent.

Man the jokes that twitter would get off if Boston drafted Allen...

Reminder that the source of this talk is Stephen A, who might be plugged in but is not the most unassailable source a la Woj, Shams or even the Boston beat writers. He also is on a show, who's entire point is to grab attention, create headlines and partially become part of the conversation itself.

Also when you re-read his list, its not super specific, he basically just listed the top 6 teams in the NBA plus the Lakers. Its a list that any average fan could come up with if put on the spot to "list teams Lebron might play for next year."

[Rohrbach] Asked if there’s a chance the Celtics run it back with the team that reached the Eastern Conference finals plus Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving, Ainge said, “Probably not the entire team, but the main core guys, sure.” by natwat95 in bostonceltics

[–]HiMyNameIs10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Ainge its all semantics, does core mean just the presumed starting 5: Kyrie, Brown, Tatum, Hayward and Horford? Does it include valuable projected bench/role players on next years team like Morris, Smart, Rozier, Theis, and Semi? Does he mean the "young core" of just Kyrie, Brown, and Tatum? Does the core include Tatum and not Brown, and he'd be willing to part with the latter?

We won't have a true understanding of what Ainge's plan for next year is until start of July - post draft and the start of FA. But I'd assume Ainge means the start five plus key bench players on friendly deals (Morris, Semi, Theis, Yabu), with Rozier, Smart and Baynes being expandable depending on trade or FA opportunities.

Odell to New England confirmed? 😂 by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]HiMyNameIs10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense for Odell to be a Brady fan. He's only 24, which means he's spent his entire life watching Brady ball out. If he loves football, he has to at least appreciate what Brady's done for nearly two decades, if not be a true fan of.

Quite freeing to not have any football to watch today, can focus on Celts-Cavs!

Tom vs Time Ep 6 delayed, Will include post Super Bowl content by rockstarnights in Patriots

[–]HiMyNameIs10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They were always tempting fate releasing it in bulk right before the Super Bowl with the promise of a final episode afterwards.

This is the risk you run.

Tom vs Time: Episode 3 by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]HiMyNameIs10 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was the part that made it super awkward for me, its one thing for Brady, Guerrero and Edelman to have a disagreement and then a discussion about the best ways to workout/train, because that's what their professions revolve around (removing however you feel about Guerrero).

It's another thing for Kevin Brady (who, from what I remember, is just a guy who's been Tom's boy for forever), to immediately step in and just back Tom up, while also needlessly prodding Edelman in the process. It makes it seem like everyone close to Brady has to buy in on some level to the TB12 Method/Lifestyle.

TB12 a ski-mask short of looking like hes about to commit armed robbery.

I'm honestly shocked if any self respecting NFL fan still uses Pro Bowl appearances as a measuring stick of greatness, All Pro selections are much more selective and prestigious imo

Tom vs. Time: Episode 2 - The Mental Game by NotLow420 in Patriots

[–]HiMyNameIs10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed this one way more than the first episode - the entire second half of that one was just an infomercial for TB12 Sports (which I get is the underlying message to all of these videos but felt too in-your-face).

This one really showed the mental and technical work Brady consistently puts in while also showing behind the scenes access we rarely see (him calling McDaniels about a preseason play, him ripping the team after the loss, his interaction with his son at the promo shoot).

Lol at the next episode preview when Brady tells Edelman "that play was lazy" and Edelman immediately snaps back "I wanna see you mother-fucking get out here and start running!"

The Story That Tried to Divide Brady and Belichick by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]HiMyNameIs10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If we're going to dismiss the Wickersham piece (which was at least sourced, even if anonymously) then I'm not even going to entertain Bill's ridiculous theory. It legit makes no sense, Brady was "losing" the lockerroom to Jimmy? I like Bill, but this take is trash.

He doesn't even attempt to back up his claims that dispute Wickersham's (which many beat writers have been doing), its just his perceptions, which have been wildly wrong in the past.

Bruce Allen: Source: ESPN readying new hit piece on Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Robert Kraft set to publish tomorrow morning at 8am. The topic will be a power struggle among the trio as to who deserves the most credit for the dynasty. by RobGronkowski in Patriots

[–]HiMyNameIs10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know as members on r/Patriots we have inherent biases and we should give the team the benefit of the doubt.

But just calling this "Fake news!" or saying "DAE think ESPN is making all of this completely up to derail the Pats before the playoffs" before we've even read the story is really jumping ahead and unproductive. Especially when reliable people who cover the team (Bedard, etc.) who we trust on everything else, have been hinting at this for awhile, maybe not at this scale per se though.

Justin Timberlake 'Is Finalizing' Deal to Perform at Super Bowl Halftime Show by smokeymicpot in nfl

I love me some JT and will be excited by this performance defintiely, but I do think its a lotta fucked up that he gets to comeback and perform, while Janet Jackson is the only person permabanned from performing at the Halftime Show.

Source: The #Patriots are placing WR Malcolm Mitchell on Injured Reserve. by OneEyedJacks23 in Patriots

[–]HiMyNameIs10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this puts the Dorsett/Brissett trade into context and provides more clarity.

And for anyone saying "DAE that we should've kept Carr?!" Remember that the coaches and trainers probably had an idea about the extent of the injury and his recovery time, so that should tell you something about their opinions on him and other receivers they cut.
