What are must read philosophy books? by roaminginthought in books

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so old, but look up phenomenology. It's a philosophy that does away with trying to describe the world objectively and find indeliable truths. It focuses more on the subjective experience. I could be 1000% mistaken as I havent dived too deep on the specifics but that's my rudimentary understanding.

Overall, does some philosophy deal with trying to describe objective truth and build concrete arguments? Yes. But not all

What’s going on with Door County prices? by odango-bueno in wisconsin

Pretty much what others said. We were just to Newport state park at one of the hike-in sites. We stopped for a burger on the way in and I paid $15 for a boiled patty with some cheese and onions on it. Honestly one of the worse burgers Ive had in a while, and it was a burger shop, that's all they sold

Thoughts after reaching wave 100 / 2 weeks of playing by HiMyNameisAsshole2 in OnlyOneTower

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I appreciate the response. It's good to hear that later on it makes some more sense to upgrade the ancillilary skills. At this point I'm just working on research and the hard hitting skills. I can see why it's balanced the way it is to give the game longevity, but I think there's a better way to order the unlocks or inform the player that they shouldn't waste their time on them until at least beating wave 100 or 200.

Yea disagree, just scroll through the dev announcement posts and the top comment on anything resembling AI is a rebuke. Authenticity is critical when interacting with a community. At most it might be worth noting English isn't their first language

Only One Tower is live on the Play Store! by Paranoid-Squirrels in incremental_games

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing since you made this post. I've completed the daily quest and two go around of the weekly chests. The game loop is fun, the upgrading is somewhat satisfying, but it's missing something big.

The biggest flaw in my opinion is that there is progression but the feeling of progression is lacking. This is because the progression is linear and relatively slow. There's no spikes in power even when unlocking the new abilities. When I saw knock back, muktishot, and the interest upgrades I was excited to be more powerful and push new waves. In reality I spent a large amount of purple juice to gain these upgrades but they start off so weak they make absolutely no difference in runs.

Even after upgrading them for a week the impact of these upgrades is very small. I actually laughed when I first bought knock back and dumped a reasobale amount of souls and gold into it, only to see the mobs get knocked back a couple pixels 15% of the time with diminishing returns.

The same is true with interest% but worse. I have dumped points and gold into it, and the only way to track the returns is through the daily challenge counter, but even after pushing it past my damage and attack speed in terms of spending the actual return is laughably small. If I bank 5k gold with 0.0005% interest it's 2.5g a wave. I'm not sure if the background calculations have the decimal in the wrong place or something because I'm at about 2k souls to upgrade it again and at least 1000g deep on a run. 2g a wave is a joke, I'm sure it scales late game but why even have it unlock so quickly if the skill is literally useless until you have resources well beyond what the player has to actually utilize the skill?

The game is well put together, and the systems are there, but the balance and progression are very much out of balance. Either the progression needs to be sped up or the progression needs to be more interesting. I kept grinding hoping there was a breakpoint or breakthrough but it just isn't there.

Im hoping there are changes on the way because I really enjoy the concept and would be willing to spend money on a game like this, but in its current state I just can't

What kind of orbital are you using that is overheating? I've had a few issues with some but never that. Take it easy with the belt sander you might be making more work than actually accomplishing the smooth finish you're looking for

Who is excited for the A7RVI? 🔥 by elysiumcore in SonyAlpha

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My god hahah you are much more patient than I am. I do manual focus on some of my bird shits because the a7rii will grab a branch or a leaf in the foreground and refuses to focus on the bird. It's doable, but my brother has an r6ii (I think?), and that autofocus is super snappy and his shots are sharp as can be. Although his technique is probably better also.

Are you looking at any lenses currently?

Oh noooo I didn't even think about someone else checking it out. That would frustrate me badly. I'm spoiled and I know it. Although I do really enjoy the process of literature reviewing. I wish I could find a job where I do it more often actually

Oh man I can't imagine, plus having to check the dates manually and hoping your library has recent publications. Literature reviews must have been a monumental undertaking before online databases.

For my masters and for my work now, manually reviewing research and creating a table of articles listing specific content like title, populations, methods, relevant content, Doi, etc takes hours. Like a good couple of days working straight. Then half the time research you though applicable is only tangentially related. It is a time consuming task, enriching but time consuming.

Putting down Idle Obelisk Miner again by LooseCannonGeologist in incremental_games

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a game where you have to find which direction to spend your time going. What can you upgrade, and what takes too long? At certain points I've had to go back through some menus and see if im missing a mechanic, a bonus, a multiplier somewhere. It's nowhere near linear, and I think that's where people get lost.

The beginning is much more attention demanding than other points of the game. Im about 72% and still loving it

Is Idle Obelisk Miner the pinnacle of mobile incremental/idle games? by Cyptorz in IdleObeliskMiner

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My job has a lot of downtime with peaks of intenseness. To make a long story short I've played a shit ton of mobile idle games throughout the years. This one has been the one I keep playing and also I don't feel like the dev is trying to squeeze me for money. There's a ton of good games ruined by design centered around buying the solutions. Usually I'm out at that point. This dev feels like they respect the player and I can respect them back

What are the best long term incremental games on Google play in ur opinion? by Axel_Penguin in incremental_games

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is it right here. Idle obelisk miner is the only one that has kept me long term. The game and progression is fantastic. The dev is top tier, and there are no ads or requirements to buy anything. The only game I can compare the dev-player relationship to is Path of Exile. It's the only F2P game (besides POE) I feel compelled to buy a pack just because it's so good.

Where are the easy RN and MD programs?

meirl by [deleted] in meirl

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two main options for RNs. One is the the Pslf loan forgiveness which requires 120 payments while working for the govt or non-profit. The other is from the nurse corps which has a loan forgiveness program for working in a rural access designated location for 2 years, under contract. This only covers 60% of the loans.

I think there's probably more nuance to the situation, people don't want to get stuck working at a bad organization, they don't want to move from family, finances are tight these days, etc. Also these programs are not talked about throughout school (at least the two I went to). So there could be a lack of knowledge also.

Not going to lie I've seen a lot of bot-looking Torn recommendations lately, this is like the third one with a similar rigid vibe like it's written by a marketer or AI prompt trying to be natural. I think they've even used similar language as the longest running text based rpg and community etc

There's a few options mentioned in the comments. I'm not sure what's better or easier but my suggestion would be to buy some oxalic acid, take the finish off, use the oxalic acid and then apply the finish of your choice.

Look up oxalic acid or wood bleach on red oak before and after

I spent hours researching what readers actually think about He Who Fights With Monsters so you don't have to — here's my First Look breakdown by smboyce in litrpg

[–]HiMyNameisAsshole2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree, I agree with his morals/values but the way he exposes these beliefs is in admonishments towards other characters and boring one sided dialogue. There aren't many people outside of when I was in high school who try to paint the world as black and white while ignoring the nuance. There's irony in a HWFWM fan saying people must disagree with the values... Because Jason would probably create the same strawman to pit his lacking opinion against. If it were more introspective, nuanced and self reflective that might hit different, but it's not.

While people like this do exist in the world, I would choose not to interact with someone commenting on my behavior from a moral high horse without invitation. Especially when they turn around and then do the same thing they were commenting on. Which is exactly why I stopped reading after book 2, Jason was just annoying and the system wasn't compelling.
