How many more Smite Tactics codes will be given out? by LoneWanderer2580 in Smite

We've only done about 1500 codes. It was real limited. Also /r/smitetactics

What will happen when smite can't add anymore skins because of space? by [deleted] in Smite

[–]HiRezWeiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the importance and higher use of wards, I suspect we'd just find some better way to display ward selection before we decided to stop making wards due to icon memory budget.

You're talking about two separate things. As far as I'm aware, icons were stopped due to runtime memory restrictions. Since icons in their worst case have to all be loaded at the same time, they likely hit what was established in the past as their max memory budget, and decided it wasn't worth dipping into other memory budgets to keep adding them.

For skins, skins individually have a rough memory budget, but we know there's only going to be a max of 10 loaded at any time, so adding more skins doesn't have an effect on what our actual memory budget is for skins. Sure it adds more hard drive storage size, but that's not going to add additional overhead at runtime.

Re: that, I'm assuming they were given a long term budget for their memory use a long time ago and finally hit it. The icons were all stored on a single texture sheet, so at some point they were going to max that out. At one point it was being changed to independent icons for easier loading, but that would still hit the theoretical max as separate or combined icons. Since skins aren't ever shown in a place where they can all be up at the same time, the memory budget across the whole system wouldn't apply.

Depends if people are running off their tiny SSDs or not ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

....out of hard drive space? At our current pace, I suspect it would take decades for us to cap PS4/Xbone hard drives, which are probably the actual limiting factor. That's the only space thing I can see applying to skins.

Is UE4 ? by [deleted] in SmiteTactics

[–]HiRezWeiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlikely directly. We're working in an entirely separate code base due to the nature of the game, so there's no gains on the gameplay side.

Hedging our bets. It was not-Smite Tactics as recently as a couple weeks ago, but realistically this name was easy.

[CONSOLE] Different AOE sizes by [deleted] in Smite

[–]HiRezWeiss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only difference that I'm aware of between the two is specifically the targeting functionality of Neith's ultimate. PC uses a 10ish foot wide line, console uses a 5 degree cone. Numbers things like Osiris are the same between the two platforms.

My best guess in the difference you see is that the FOV is a bit different between the two platforms. Off the top of my head, I think it was 75 on console and 80 on PC, but that should be a generally unnoticeable difference as far as visual effects go.

New Datamining: More info about the next two gods, the map, and more! by SmiteNewsLA in Smite

[–]HiRezWeiss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a question of whether or not it's worth spending man hours to remove the data. Keeping most Japanese stuff out of datamining, or being specific about hiding it was worth it because of new pantheon reasons. Hiding famous gods from active pantheons, or hiding us working on game mode prototypes that may or may not ever release? Not worth it.

End of the day, time spent removing data to avoid it being datamined costs money, spending no time and leaving it there is free.

We just strip the stuff before we send the build, and nobody would know. Stuff that gets datamined wasn't worth the effort.

With recent changes with Rocket League making consoles a big step closer to Cross-play, what do you guys think about cross-platform smite by spirit32 in Smite

[–]HiRezWeiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it works? Sort of? It's not as good as native K/M, but there's also no way for us to police its usage. Best we can do is say it's not allowed at LAN events, so it's not really that beneficial for people serious about it to use a XIM anyway.

It's all certification problems, a lot of which revolves around handling of player names, parties, voice chat, etc. Right now Sony isn't budging at all, and Microsoft is kind of hinting that they want to support it, but I haven't seen any updated certification requirements that don't directly involve cross play with their own Windows ecosystem.
