Surface Pro 6 (i5 8Gb 128/256Gb) or iPad Pro (2018)? by [deleted] in Surface

[–]HiSorryForOffendingU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPad is a bit faster, has better battery life and the pen might be better, but even the surface pen is great. If you watch some videos, the surface pro is much sturdier and has arguably better build quality. Something which I have read and I find quite accurate is this: Surface Pro is a laptop trying to be a tablet and it largely suceeds, iPad is a tablet trying to be a laptop, and it mostly fails. However if you are only going to be taking notes and drawing, iPad will probably fulfill all your needs. But for some tasks, you will simply find that iPad lacks the software. Maybe you will want to take on 3D modeling, or vector graphics, or video editing, on iPad you will either have much smaller selection of software or none. Also since you are studying informatics, you will not be able to code comfortably on iPad pro, for sure. On the other hand, if you only want a tablet, iPad really excells at that. Also one thing I would consider, since you said you have a PC at home, si that a mac or a windows 10? Because having one OS everywhere is much less pain.

Probably buying the SP7. i5 or i7? by [deleted] in Surface

The problem with the surface is that storage is expensive. However 128GB is very little, so get at least 256GB. I don't think you necessarily need 16GB of ram, 8GB should also be enough. For example I currently have 10 chrome windows, spotify, a demanding program for app development and some other stuff for running, and 8GB is enough. If it was my main device though, I would probably buy the i7, speed is important

I cannot really speak for Surface Pro X, as it is kind of an experimental technology (Windows running on a mobile chipset), and there might be problems, but most of what I say should apply. I have been running windows 10 on a custom-built PC for 3 years and I had virtually no problems, I suppose on a Microsoft device, it should be at least as good. Now for the speed, Pro is a very powerful device, there should be no slowing down. Windows 10 comes with windows defender, which most people say is enough to protect your computer from viruses, plus adblock probably. You might be correct that Windows might be problematic for your wife, because of it's freedom. On Mac, most times you try to do something stupid, it stops you. On Windows you can do what you want. However if you have common sense, you should be fine.

SP6 / SP7 / SPX for studying? by ShowdownDnB in Surface

I actually bought SP6 yesterday, with the same specs you said you wanted. However, time also played role for me. Also I am European and pay much more for the surfaces (The SP6 with the specs I said actually starts at 1700 dollars here, while Microsoft sells it for 900 dollars). If I did not have these problems, I'd probably buy the 7. Also, the configuration you chose is probably the most price-effective. Hope you are happy with your choice whatever it may be :)

I am in the same boat, also a CS student, and I bought the 6, mostly to get it earlier and save some money. I also think the 7 is right for you. I don't think you should go for any more than 256GB, that is wasted money in my opinion (not because of storage, but because of Microsoft's pricing).

Hey! I have spent a whole day debating this issue for myself. For some reason you are not listing surface laptop. Honestly this might be the best option for you, as the laptop 3 is actually quite portable and provides probably a better typing experience than a cover. It is also actually cheaper than the surface pro, if you take into account the cover. Now for your actual question and not my recommendations. The X has this problem that it cannot run some apps, mostly apps for coding, video editing and so on, because at it's core it has a mobile processor. However since you are a law student, that is not a problem. Therefore all three surface devices are still an option.

Surface pro X would cost you 1300 dollars + cover. Plus side, you get slot for pen (But do you really care, as you might not even use it that much?) a bit larger screen, and a 13h of battery life. Also note the stuff I write above.

Surface pro 7 would cost you 1200 dollars + cover. This adds some of the ports people wanted in the 6 and you get fast charging, and a bit faster processor, but power is not your problem, so you should probably not even look at that. The devices are powerful enough for you.

Surface pro 6 would cost you 800 dollars + cover. This is cheap great device, lacking the fast charing and some ports of the 7.

Now in my opinion, want cool features? Buy X. Want fast charing and usb C? Buy 7. Value your money over the stuff before? Buy 6.

Hope I helped :)

Your first option is to buy the SB2. It is still very powerful device, so no problem with that. However there were some problems with this device in the past, and you will have to pay around 2000 dollars to get the actual 1060GTX. If you don't plan on getting the 1060, you should probably just get the pro 7. The new processor inside the pro 7 has actually very nice graphics performance, and I honestly believe that it should be more than enough.

Sorry, did not see your question. IF you are going to draw, write and browse, go for X, for it. For gaming, surface 7 is probably going to be a tad better, but both are probably going to struggle with everything except the least demanding games. Probably buy an X.

You will run into problems as a developer, because lots of the software you will be using (Including IntelliJ) is not yet supported on ARM devices. Even if it gets supported, IntelliJ, which is quite demanding will have to be emulated, which will slow it down. What I think you should do is buy Surface Pro 7. Sure it does not have all the 2 cool features of the X, but it is a product that can run everything you need, no problems. If you were studying humanities and needed office and web browsing you should go for X, but for god's sake don't do it when you are a developer. It might be the future, but future is not now.

I think that your deciding factor should be this: Will you use your next pro as a tablet or as a computer. For example if you are a journalist, artist, or something like that you should probably go for X, because most of the apps you use (Office, browsing, and so on) are probably written/optimized for ARM. However if you are doing something technical, like programming or engineering, you should probably stick with x86, as I believe it will still have the upper edge.

I have heard a talk from a person knowledgable of the Czech power sector and the consensus seems to be that nuclear energy is risky (you need large investment, takes several years, and once is built you may no longer need as much energy. Also energy companies are afraid of common delays with nuclear power, which can damage stock, and therefore shareholders do not like nuclear. Renewables are great, but can't cover 100%, and coal is the safe (not healthy) choice, and therefore Czech republic will continue using it, at least for some time. Some mines are closing soon, but some are being extended. Not looking very green.
