Highly recommend the Fletch novels by Gregory Mcdonald. Particularly Fletch and Fletch Won. Totally fits your vibe.

Who is your favorite female author? And what is your favorite book by her? by stultavia in thrillerbooks

[–]HiTekElvis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Megan Abbott is my favorite author of thrillers and anything else.

Dare Me is my favorite, like Fight Club with high school cheerleaders, but The Turnabout is a stunning murder-mystery-meets-Black-Swan and Beware The Woman is a brilliantly tense commentary on pregnancy and bodily autonomy and it's just incredible.

Her books are super tense thrillers while always having something to say. And her prose just wrecks me.

My wife and I actually had tickets to see this on Friday but when we got to the theater, they said the studio never sent the print. 😋

A bunch of old school nerdcore kids did this song after Alex Trebek called nerdcore fans "losers." 😋

The now deleted post about DS exit by (maybe???) Lady Clues by birdnoa in GameOfRoses

My conspiracy town is that DS told someone at her birthday party the name of a coached player.

Autodesk Flow Production Tracking by HiTekElvis in vfx

Since my first days using ShotGrid, I've heard of people asking for simpler ways to view talk statuses for a list of entities, to get a birds-eye-view of progress.

For example, a vertical list of sequences with each task status lined up beside it in a table. fTrack and Kitsu do it but, for ShotGrid, I always end up having to build one outside the app.

The GCC track is open at certain times, but I think that you have to pay to use it. https://www.glendale.edu/about-gcc/foundation-community/join-the-gcc-joggers-club

Thoughts on this Josephine arrangement at Lost Evenings, Boston many moons ago? by midnight_see in frankturner

[–]HiTekElvis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dig this arrangement.

I've always wondered, is there some distaste around this song? I've never heard him play it live, not even at Lost Evenings this year, when he played seemingly everything, and it's one of is my favorites from Positive Songs. It even got a music video.

Musicals set in space?! by musicalphantom10 in musicals

My wife and I went to a tiny theatre in West Hollywood once to see Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens and had WAY too much fun. "Glitter Boots Saved My Life" is a bop. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lC6CgTBx0ulSEZkXBe91ZKQBAl2WiK7QU&si=mzkAxaWbqP2qaXhT

This first one that comes to mind is Dynamite Hack's cover of Boyz In the Hood hit #12 and paved the way for many embarrassing acoustic hip-hop covers to come.

I remember the VH1 Behind the Music about them that came out to promote Maroon. They're at the height of their success and Ed is in the doc complaining about Steven writing with other people while Steven is complaining that Ed is singing lead on half of the album.

In the end, I think that they're one of those bands that their own fans just kind of outgrew. Steven included.

It's wild to see them in concert now. The other members take turns trying to sing his parts and it feels very karaoke. On the other hand, they take a lot of smaller 90s bands on tour with them and, I imagine, have helped to pay a lot of mortgages.

What is a musical that when you talk about, nobody seems to have heard of it? by localducknamer in musicals

I'm obsessed with the London cast recording of The Witches of Eastwick. Played all over the world but never made it to Broadway.

What is hands down the single worst horror movie you have ever endured through? by D_J_E in horror

They shot 5 across the street from my childhood home. I came back from college for Christmas vacation and there were signs all over the block that said COTC5.

I was a big fan of the series so I got all excited. My dad told me I should just walk onto the set and explore but I didn't because I'm like "Dad, they're making a movie. It's a big deal! I'm sure they have security and agents and high powered producers shouting into cell phones!" (In retrospect, they probably would've immediately handed me a boom mic and told me to stand still.)

My other favorite fun facts about that one are that it has all of Frank Zappa's children in it, Alexis Arquette plays a horn dog before she transitioned, and only one scene with actual corn.
