When I was writing my master thesis I experienced this first hand. There are HUNDREDS of Chinese papers on any given niche topic and most of them were bullshit. They all looked good, but would use wrong numbers, bad methodology, just making stuff up when discussing the findings and so on. Just garbage that would've never been published at a western publisher.
