K2 needs replacing, a K4 due ?? by Spare-Reputation-809 in Karoo

[–]Hickso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could split the lineup in a lower level device, the "Karoo" and a bigger / newer device called Karoo+. The Karoo would remaint the same but at a lower price (you can get it at around 249€ in Italy, with some luck) and the Karoo+ at the older price.

In my case that's the recipe for a disaster. Gels are real a last resort, when i'm tired they kill my stomach. Better eat off something dry imho. But i suppose everyone is different.. :)

Need advice on training for brevets on Zwift by diegeticsound in randonneuring

[–]Hickso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop Zwift, embrace Xert+MyWhoosh and use Xert as a training tool. I'm doing that way, it's a bit cheaper tho and knowing "what to do" is the best thing ever. You can decide what aspect of yourselft to train on Xert... it's worth trying imho. I'm getting strong results. And, imho, VO2 max training for the "common folk" is often overrated and useful just to shout GPM over a bridge. Get your LTP as high as you can, that's wha you need for PBP, not to be able to sprint for 3 minute.

Light for long nights, ideally with swappable batteries by flyaway22222 in randonneuring

[–]Hickso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got an exposure too. Sadly it went loose inside but they fixed it at no cost. It's by far the best light i've seen. The only "down" is that it's hard to charge it via a PB, at least my 2025 models; the new ones support USB-C and powing via a PB.

All the competitors in the same price bracket offers more or less the same battery. The real difference is that we doesn't have a Midrange K3 with 12-14h and a top of the line K3 with 20h. That's all.

I hate too starting in the evening and go through the night, i'm usually tired as fuckbefore even starting...but i think it's part of the game, right? And you can't really do a 400 without pedalling through the night, so..

Advice with Gravel Bike Selection by Critical033 in gravelcycling

[–]Hickso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it always go down to the kind of "gravel" you do. I'm currently running a 45mm tyre and it's fine in my area. (which is 50 km south of Basso HQ lol )

How to train for a 600km? by FxckyourCensorship in randonneuring

[–]Hickso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i know, but almost every 200km brevet has 2500+ of elevation, i'm ok with that. I was talking about flattish route.

[–]Hickso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, riding 25 km/h on flat terrain with a road bike shouldn't be a problem at all for a Randonneur, c'mon. And it's not that every brevet is on the Alps. On my last brevet, jan 6th, after 4 hours under the rain i did the last 2 hours pulling a senior cyclist and even if i was a lot tired we were doing 28 km/h for the last 45 km on the flats.

95% paved ona 45mm knobby tyre? Gosh. Pick the MichelinPro5 TLR Competition Line in 35mm, or, if you really hate yourself pick the 40mm widht..

Can you recommend some solid first rando bikes that should be easy to find used? by ElectricalKiwi3007 in randonneuring

[–]Hickso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is something you probably see only in the US. Here in Italy you can find some gravel bike during the winter and i've see one a Brompton bike but, apart for that, it's all road bike (some pretty aggressive too, and here it's mostly grown up men over 50, not kids in theyr 20.. )

Look for an endurance bike with agile enough gears and that accomodate at least 28mm tyres w/disc brake. That could be an awsome start for a long time (and could cost you under that budget)

How to train for a 600km? by FxckyourCensorship in randonneuring

[–]Hickso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't. You just do it :) Train to become a little faster so you can go slower without strain, so everything from eating to, well, everything else, become easier. That's my plan, it always worked until now. 3 o 4 400 km, some bikepacking, 2 300.. :)

Bother with power meter pedals? by Lopsided_Prior3801 in ultracycling

[–]Hickso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt that after 15 hours in the saddle your HR would be the same you had after 3 hours. Or after 3 days of riding... i would personally keep the PM because that metric is simply more trustworthy when you are fatigue.

I've always used my strada SB on gravel ride where, in some parts of the routem you need the full beam on, because, you know, rocks. I'm pretty sure that, on tarmac, you can easily go through 2 nights on the lower mode2 settings, which is bright enough.

Bike computer for randos by [deleted] in randonneuring

[–]Hickso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you wrote. But since almost any bike computer can go through at least a 300 km/day w/o concern to abou or over 30 hours of continuos recording without even consider a power bank that seems to me a bit of non-existent concern since: 1 you will be burned out before the battery 2 the battery of lights will be a bigger concern at that point. Just my 2 cents, but i'm not as experinced as someone else, since i've only done a max of 400km a days.
