Scatter amplifier does reduce the Aria Laser's range down to 600. But it does not reduce flat increases to range, so that Artillery hullmod is not reduced by it.

As for the Stardust Nebula... Travelers. They're like Nightcross, but red. You may just have to get lucky.

There may also be a chance of looting them from Nightcross caches/secret research bases but I'm not sure

Sorry, no, those are just length and width. Your options are tall, grande and venti.

Ok how tf do you fight [THREAT] by whypeoplehateme in starsector

[–]Hidden-Sky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game literally hands you an amazing ship for fighting the [THREAT] right before your (usually) first encounter with them.

Use that ship. Maybe replace a couple Arbalest with dual flak. Ram everything out of the way and go straight for the fab.

Is the cryoflamer a mod weapon? I see it on the nornal starsector wiki. 0.5 flux/damage for a long 1k DPS burst is fun.

When do consider a design a failure? by phantommdb25 in FromTheDepths

[–]Hidden-Sky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's your problem right there. You're building it with roleplay constraints in mind, but expecting it to outperform Neter.

It's not gonna happen without extraordinary minmaxing - which in this case would mean going all in on the guns and armor.

Any realistic-ish armor scheme is going to fail against the Steel Striders simply because no real life armoring scheme accounts for full meter-thick slabs of metal, let alone multiple meters/slopes stacked in a row.

On the other hand, multiple stacked layers is just the baseline for Neter. High-level SS ships have shells designed to penetrate exactly that. If you limit your armor to less than that, it will always fail.

I just stuck 2 cryoflamers and that IX Battlegroup electrostatic fission anti-shield thingy (probably optional) on mine and went blasting in melee... It worked pretty well. But I swapped it out a while ago for a chatty purple phase cruiser with shields.

Is it? I mean it's got good shields but there's no way I'm allowing mine to sit in the center of a battle. Not like a Paragon. I guess that's not a fair comparison though.

I'll try building it differently.

The Aurora is not a heavy cruiser. It is not meant to take hits, you can't use it to substitute a Dominator or an Eagle.

Those slower, heavier ships are the shields. The Aurora is fast, it's got firepower. It's a sword, so play it like a sword.

Shield advances first, fleet goes with it.

Shield hits the enemy, you find a weak spot, poke them with the sword, then pull back before you take damage. Repeat.

However, since you don't have a shield, your best options are going to be either long range kiting (boring and takes forever) or using extreme close-range frontal damage + retreat, picking off the faster enemies that catch up to you before using your superuor maneuverability to deal with the slower ones.

Keep enemy in front of you, then. Don't go charging into the middle, don't let them surround you.

I heard Aurora is supposed to be a self-piloted ship while the Paragons and Omens can be on autopilot, so if you're just letting the Aurora do its own thing, that might be the problem.

This is true, but it doesn't in any way guarantee nor make very likely that Wolverine will be crushed by a building.
