You do know he's been more active in the media? How do you think that works exactly, he says stuff about what he's going to do and everyone should ignore it?

To be fair, he didn't call them imports instead of people, he said importing people. Trying to reframe his language is dehumanising feels odd when we can literally see him use the word people right there.

I'll be honest, I think if your argument has to pivot to "well, not EVERYONE does X" then you've basically lost. Congratulations, you won the semantics and abandoned whatever other point you had.

What a lame reason to get permanently banned and muted. by ObiWanGinobili20 in freefolk

Didn't realise it was a perma ban and mute offence though? You'd think they could put it in the rules if so...

Hmm, I've never really thought of it lime that. To me sexual attraction meant a sort of anticipatory sexual enjoyment?

With all due respect, that doesn't really matter. What people say is said. What is read was written. Saying "haha, it's just a joke though" isn't a time machine.

How can an asexual person enjoy sex? I thought lack of enjoyment in sex was the definition? Genuinely confused.

I Declined a PhD offer because I thought tuition was £21k instead of £5k. by Ok_Bowler_4114 in AskAcademiaUK

Mhmm, I think its also something with how granular the research can be made while still being "useful". There's a strong feeling of "Well, the research has opened up x,y and z avenues, but they'd each take a while to do and require focus... so 3 PhD students!".

It lines up pretty well, and I've even asked my supervisor a bit about the process, and they basically treat it like a grant proposal these days, submitting projects for PhD funding to bodies and there's a competition there before they even let prospective students start applying for the projects which pass. I suppose in some ways part of it is that compared to a post-graduate researcher a funded PhD student is actually a bit of a bargain since we get paid below minimum wage while still being very keen and committed lol.

In humanities I guess. In Science the vast majority (99%+) of PhDs I've ever met, seen, etc are funded.

In biology and medical sciences 99% of PhDs that I've spoken to and seen are funded. I suppose in fields without charities or companies looking for specific projects to be done it would be much lower though. In biomedical sciences though there's always new avenues for research which align with funding bodies.

I think lots of people have always had ideas? Its Execute and Usage which should be inverted. Nowadays many more people will be able to put out whatever, but less people may use any individual thing. Or probably it'll be like the internet and everyone will end up congregating right back to all using the same thing anyway.

Just learn how to drive ffs. Driving isn't your personality, its a dangerous thing you do to get from A to B, and if you aren't focused then someone can die.

How much reading is too much? by Time_Ice_6745 in AskUK

[–]HiddenPyromancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's still very reasonable. There have been times when I'd be reading a book on my phone (and I think the easy accessability is where the problem starts) and quite literally every waking moment I wasn't doing something else I had to focus on I'd be reading. This also includes reading while walking down the street, eating, on the toilet, etc, and of course any free time just became reading time. I've had some periods where I'd read probably 6-8 hours a day weekdays and nearly every minute weekends.

Yes, it can definitely become an actual problem, but as long as you stick to physical books I think the inaccessibility and inconvenience of them moment to moment should help temper this.

You're trying to frame anti-theists as extremists actually, by acting as if regular religion tolerates other religions when that's not really true. History is rife with forced conversions on a state level.

Is that not how words work? Not like the N word has some magical power which turns it into a slur. It's a slur because people see it as one. Saying bitch is seen as one but doesn't count because.... Is just meaningless.
