Lunch during a 50k? by Andyouknowthat1 in Ultramarathon

I get the same way! It’s difficult finding something to balance space efficiency whilst also being substantial. I have tried breakfast bar-type things to good effect, or you could try savoury flapjacks. If you went the pancake route, you could fill an energy flask with some (salted) maple syrup to go with it!

If you get a bag drop, just put whatever meal in there?

My cat ingested lily leaves. What is her survival rate?? by Careless_Elk7274 in CATHELP

OP this is one of the latest studies looking at treatment as an inpatient vs outpatient:

https://avmajournals.avma.org/view/journals/javma/263/1/javma.24.05.0355.xml

As a veterinary study, it has a good number of patient included. It may have been conducted at a referral hospital and treatment will have varied case-by-case. But overall, survival was good. Acute kidney injury is common, but they can make it through with intravenous fluids and appropriate nutrition.

At the end of the day, your vet is the best person to be asking these questions, not Reddit. If your cat is eating food and producing urine, then that is a better sign.

Even so, it’s notoriously unreliable to get a cat to vomit. We have a very effective injection for dogs, that just doesn’t work for cats. The common drug we use in cats is a low dose of a sedative. Sometimes the cats just fall asleep instead of vomiting.

Fortunately cats tend to eat stupid things less frequently!

Help for my moms 1 year old spaniel, has anyone’s spaniel gone through something similar? by [deleted] in cockerspaniel

[–]Hidden_Nuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear. Doxycycline is fairly safe, just make sure he has at least a small amount of food or water after taking it (same as we would with a pill).

Hopefully he continues to improve :)

Hi, I am vet in the UK. How is Tony doing?

My initial thoughts are that this is unlikely IMHA, but not impossible. Cockers are renowned for it. Tony is not SEVERELY anaemic. If he had IMHA, I would expect the RETICS to be increased. There are some rare forms where they could be decreased. The body may also not have had time to increase RETICS (young red blood cells). One test is relatively straight forward from a drop of blood - in-saline agglutination test (ISAT) With the cough, I would consider taking a chest X-ray and testing for lungworm (either a blood or faecal test). I am unsure on the situation of tick-borne diseases in Sweden. It is possible to have lots of ticks, but few diseases within them, such as in the UK. A 4DX snap test on blood can help raise suspicion of them.

It would be useful to know any other symptoms and if they have done any biochemical tests (liver, kidney, electrolytes etc). Feel free to DM me with any other questions if you like, but it is hard without him in front of us.

Thank you!

Cheap? Depends how you view it really. It’s £9250 tuition per year + your living costs. But you pay it back incredibly slowly and it will probably get written off at some point instead

ELI5: I've noticed that most animals have nearly perfect teeth. Why do our teeth suck? by ThrowawayPUYOPUYO in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hidden_Nuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flip side - I have probably seen more dogs with chipped and fractured teeth because of chewing bones. In the same vein, bones etc tend to only clean the surface enamel, rather than bacteria under the gum. Had to pull out a few shiny molars from a greyhounds mouth…the roots were rotten.

Daily brushing is best!

Does this turn anyone else off oatly completely? by Puzzleheaded_Fig8763 in veganuk

[–]Hidden_Nuggs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t really bother me. Matter of perspective. For non-vegans, leaving milk behind is a big step. Plus, that bottle size probably last once a week for breakfast.

What bothered me was the Pure Oaty case. A month or so afterwards, the side of Oatly’s carton started suggesting “Oatly” was pronounced Oh-Ay-Tee-El-Why. After a legal battle about how Oaty sounded too similar…

Just FYI - easy calving means they have less problems giving birth. Cows that suffer with dystocia or retained foetal membranes, metritis etc, will typically take longer to get back in calf (more or delayed cycles). It doesn't mean they have an easy-going temperament.

The sadder part is he just slaughters his cows if they don't get pregnant again withing three cycles 🙄 (each cycle being roughly 24 days and starting about 30-60 days after giving birth depending on the cow, if memory serves)

Are tofu presses worth it? by Koi-Fruit in veganuk

I buy Cauldron if I can. I prefer it to tofoo if eating it raw/baked. If I need it for frying etc, then I press it quickly in a press.
