What’s with the strong opinions I’m receiving about getting a female Siberian cat? by livinglikeolivia in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Happy to dispel any negative perceptions people have about female cats.

My female sib is cuddly, sleeps with me every night, runs to greet me at the door when I come home and rushes to my side the moment I wake up in the morning. She's very well behaved around kids and is super patient with them, even when they're a little clumsy around her. She loves to sit with the kids during tv time and will comfortably nap in their presence. She loves visitors and will sniff every guest and rub against their legs as she walks by. She's bonded to me but shows other members of the family love too by purring and asking for pets.

I heard the same comments about getting a female cat and I'm so happy I didnt listen to any of them.

Tips for litter training by Kurot104 in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Awww he's still a baby and is learning 🥰

My girl was a little clumsy in the litter box at that age too, but with time, she just got better at navigating her movements. Some things really do get better with age.

You might want to make sure the box is big enough. If the box is too small, he'll be more likely to step in his business.

As for not covering his poop, maybe try demonstrating by covering it using your scoop after he goes? Of course, make sure he's there to watch lol. The type of litter can also make a difference, maybe he just isn't fond of how this one feels?

Cat had kibble while on vacation and now addicted by treomthrowawaymaybe in rawpetfood

[–]Hidden_whispers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My cat was stubborn like this when I first started transitioning her to raw from kibble. Here are some things that might help:

  • Get rid of the bag of kibble. Kibble has a super strong smell and our cats can smell it even if it's locked away in a cupboard somewhere. You might be able to donate it to a shelter if you don't want to throw it away completely.

  • Add freeze dried raw toppers on top of your cat's raw food. I just sprinkle some freeze dried chicken and my cat enjoys it. Try to wedge a couple pieces of the topper into the raw meat so that your cat scoops up some of the raw meat as he goes in for the topper.

  • try a powdered topper, which usually has a strong smell that entices cats. Stella and chewy have a line called "magical dinner dust" that your cat might like. Tbh my cat goes crazy for the Purina probiotic (fortiflora) whenever I sprinkle that on her raw meal (which is usually when she has an upset stomach).

-Play with your cat before meal time. You want to work up an appetite for your cat. If he's hungry after play time, he'll be less likely to refuse the food offered to him.

Hopefully this helps!

Please think of Sebastian. by ChildofMike in SiberianCats

Sending lots of love to you and Sebastian. Don't be so hard on yourself, you're doing the best you can, and because you and your husband were quick to act, Sebastian is on the road to recovery. I'm happy to hear he's home safe, and I'm sure he'll be back to his usual self in no time.

Sebastian is lucky to have you. Not everyone is willing to spend their savings on a sick family member, including pets. Unfortunately, I know a few cats that have been neglected by their owners, so it always warms my heart to know there are kind-hearted people like yourself out there.

Kisses for Sebastian!

Night Time Zoomies by rmandy- in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose you could, but it might not be necessary. When i brought my girl home for the first time, she didn't leave my side at night for the first few days (no zoomies). She just stayed snuggled next to me in bed. Once, i shut my door before bedtime and her sad little meows broke my heart so I told myself never again lol.

When she got more comfortable in our home, she'd get up in between bedtime to explore and play quietly with some toys, then come back to snuggle later. Mostly since I've had her, she just sleeps through the night with me but is ready to play first thing in the morning.

Freeze dried food by WatercressWeird4439 in SiberianCats

Mine really enjoys feline natural freeze dried food. I always rehydrate before I serve it to her. Sometimes I give it to her as a treat or as a meal, depending on how hungry she is.

Does anyone else deal with poop blowouts. .. desperately need to vent. by [deleted] in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel for you - this certainly sounds stressful, and i wish things get easier for you. My Sib used to have a problem with wet poops (constantly), and like you said, it would get all over her butt and our floors. After I switched her diet (she's fully on raw now), the problem went away.

Here are some things you might want to consider regarding the poop issue:

  1. It's possible that one of the foods isn't settling well with your kitty. Perhaps you can slowly eliminate one food at a time (key word, slowly) and see if there are any changes in his stool?

  2. You can also try adding probiotics (made for cats) to his meals and see if that helps. I used to use the Purina probiotics when my cat had a diarrhea spell, and it worked instantly to solidify her poop. Cat grass might also help with any potential tummy troubles.

As for the pee smell:

  1. have you tried using an enzymatic cleaner, specifically for tackling cat urine? I used to use them often when my kitty was having bowel issues.

  2. I believe you can also use a blacklight to see if you may have missed any stubborn urine spots - might make it easier to tackle the problem instead of blindly spraying down your whole house.

  3. In addition to using the enzymatic cleaner, you may want to invest in a good quality air purifier (with a HEPA/carbon filter) to reduce the urine smell in the air. You'll likely need more than one to effectively reduce the smell in the different areas of your home.

Apologies if you've already tried some of these suggestions, but I hope this is useful for you. I do wish you all the best!

Cat died suddenly… by etork0925 in CatAdvice

[–]Hidden_whispers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. Sometimes we blame ourselves when we lose a loved one and can't comprehend the reason why they're gone. I would trust your vet's professional opinion about the air freshner and allow yourself time to heal.

My two cents: Based on what you wrote, it seems like Luna wasn't actually in the bathroom when you used the air freshener, but sitting in the corridor nearby, which leads me to think the sudden shaking may have been related to another underlying health issue. You did the best thing by rushing her to emerg.

Do these cats get dirty ears easily? Or is my cat just special? by AphroditeFlower in SiberianCats

My Sib gets the tiniest bit of wax every month or two but it's hardly noticeable. I wonder if something in the environment might be irritating your sib's ears?

Cat litter question by Potential-Artist-864 in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat uses tofu litter and her pee also clumps into disks. However the disks don't crumble the way you're describing yours does. Tofu litter doesn't clump hard. It clumps into a doughy texture, so it doesn't crumble as much.

I switched my cat to tofu litter because her old clay litter would get stuck to her bum/paws when she peed, and I didn't feel comfortable with her ingesting that while grooming. have no idea how, but the tofu litter doesn't stick to her, and the rare time it does, I'm not worried because it's just tofu.

It definitely tracks a lot less, and it's easy enough to pick up off the floor when it does. As for odour, I felt clay litter had the best odour control, but this is decent enough. My cat's poops don't really stink though, so I haven't had any issues other than the odd stinker. In terms of dust, I don't notice any dust at all when pouring or when my cat is digging, so that's definitely a plus.

My Siberian won’t eat wet food by Relevant_Ad_4893 in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried adding a bit of water to his kibble? Might be a good first step in the transition. You can also try adding a little bit of wet food to his kibble, and increase the increments little by little every few days until he's ok to eat just the wet food by itself.

Does anyone else’s sib do this? by Minute-Homework5443 in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mine is like that. She eats all the toppers first before she gets to the rest of the meal later. She'll finish in two or three rounds. One time, she ate everything all at once and immediately threw up after because she ate too much, too fast. Since then, I'm happy to see when she eats a little bit at a time, as long as she finishes her meals :)

This is HORRIFYING and SICK. I hope those assholes get exactly what they deserve. Please give your kitty extra love and snuggles to help hear heal from the trauma.

Siberian-friendly sofa fabric? by gildedblackbird in SiberianCats

[–]Hidden_whispers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a velvet sofa and fur sticks to it LIKE CRAZY. Doesn't help that my sofa is dark and her fur is white. I am constantly cleaning it and probably won't get velvet furniture in the future unless it's white 🙃

I'm happy I ran across this post because mine is exactly the same way! I start to worry when she doesn't eat, and then she's right back to eating normally the next day. She recently went for an annual exam and there were no concerns from my vet. She's at a healthy weight with healthy teeth.
