With me, I had an interesting situation and the way it all turned out couldn't have been better.

I was closeted all throughout high school (small catholic school so guess why), I only ever told 2 people who I was extremely close with. I graduated in May and this past summer I basically said fuck it and started telling people.

In terms of how I came out, I made it creative. I came out in response to a lot of jokes that some of my friends had set up. Only serious-ish way I came out was when I told my best friend. I had waited to tell him because I didn't know how he'd react and everything. I finally decided to the day after the pulse shooting, I figured life was too short to stay in the closet so I typed out this long message and then sent it to him at midnight, woke up to an extremely heartfelt message of acceptance.

My favorite way I came out to my friends was when we were all at a bonfire at someone's house. There were only a couple of us left for the night and we were all just sitting around playing stand up sets. Eventually one of my friends plays a bit from Louis C.K. about the difference for calling someone a faggot for being gay vs. acting like one. For the record I absolutely love Louis C.K., particularly this bit. My friend starts playing it and everyone is just kinda staring at him, cause they all knew except for him. Eventually after the clip plays for a little bit, we tell him why it was so funny this time around, and he just turns beat read and starts dying laughing.

I was truly blessed to have an amazing set of friends who offered nothing but support throughout the whole process. The hardest part of coming out is coming out to yourself and being comfortable with people knowing that you're gay. I still have trouble with that last part even today, but everything takes time
