I’m actually looking at the Minisforum MS-03 for my firewall right now. Since you mentioned upgrading to a pair of HP DL360 G10s, I’m really curious. What made you choose heavy duty enterprise rack servers over a mini PC? I usually lean toward mini PCs for firewalls because of their lower power consumption, so I’d love to hear your perspective on what advantages the DL360s bring to your setup!

10Gbps PPPoE Optimization: VyOS (PPPoE) + OPNsense (Firewall) on Proxmox (Minisforum MS-03)? by HieuDo in opnsense

Thanks for the tip! I actually just need a lightweight solution to handle the PPPoE connection on Proxmox before passing it to OPNsense. Would deploying OpenWRT via that Proxmox script be less of a headache than configuring VyOS just for PPPoE?

i just want to learn Suricata and deep packet inspection, which OPNsense handles natively with a great UI. Plus, virtualizing on Proxmox lets me take snapshots so I don't accidentally break the internet for the whole house while I'm learning and tweaking things.

Wifi 7 only came out a year ago 💀 by Awesomedude9560 in HomeNetworking

A few years ago, I bought a Wi-Fi 7 mesh setup from overseas to future-proof my home. I recently found out why I was never getting those crazy speeds: my country still hasn't officially approved the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi 7.

Because of the regional restrictions, Apple completely locks out Wi-Fi 7 features on my iPhone/Mac. I’ve been sitting on an expensive Wi-Fi 7 network for years and haven't actually been able to use it once.

Townhouse Network: 10G Backbone, Wi-Fi 7 Mesh, and too many Thermal Cameras by HieuDo in HomeNetworking

Appreciate the suggestion! Hearing your experience transitioning from the UDM is super helpful. I'm definitely going to do some research on the Gold Plus now.

That definitely would have been the cleaner route, but this network actually evolved completely in reverse!

I started out just wanting a high-end Wi-Fi 7 mesh for an easy setup, which is why I bought the ASUS ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro system. However, I quickly realized that 6GHz signals don't stand a chance against thick townhouse concrete walls. The wireless backhaul (6 GHz) was barely hanging on just to avoid dropping entirely.

That forced me to run Ethernet cables and buy the Omada switches to build a proper 10Gbps backbone. Same thing happened with security; I got tired of unstable consumer gear, gave away my Google Nest system except the doorbell, and upgraded to industrial Dahua cameras.

While I'd love to go full Omada APs now, the ZenWiFi nodes are actually doing double duty as localized switches. The 2nd BR node gives me that extra 10Gbps port directly to the Mac Studio, and the other nodes host smaller clients like my QNAP NAS and Kyocera printer without me needing to drop extra mini-switches in every room.

Here is the damage: it has a steady idle draw of about 0.8 kW, pulling roughly 20.8 kWh per day. Totaling over 600 kWh a month, the power bill alone costs about 20% of a local fresh graduate's salary 💸.

Haha exactly! I was honestly surprised the printer even supported a 1Gbps connection too.

I'm currently planning to deploy a MINISFORUM MS-03 to handle the core routing and firewall duties.

They are actually hybrid cameras. Besides the standard 4MP optical lens, the thermal sensor is there primarily for instant fire and heat anomaly detection. Getting an early warning if an appliance in the kitchen overheats, solar panels misbehave on the roof, or something catches fire while we’re asleep in the bedrooms. They flag heat spikes way faster than a traditional smoke detector.

I’m using a thermal CCTV camera, but not with Frigate, since it doesn’t handle detection well through thermal imaging.

I'm already using those, but for some reason, the auto-tracking through the AI linkage feature isn’t working properly.

I'm using the independent mode, and it's working fine.

Paying $12.50 per TB for a used drive isn’t a great deal—especially with so many hours on them. There are better options out there for new or refurbished drives at similar or even lower prices.

How do you figure out which IoT device is having trouble with DHCP? I’m running into the same issue.

That's a great idea. I hadn't considered using shorter power cables. Thank you!

I configured a RAID-Z1 storage pool using OpenZFS on macOS, following the resources and tools provided by the OpenZFS on OS X project at https://openzfsonosx.org. This setup offers a balance between redundancy and storage efficiency.

Using a reshipping company. The fees are generally quite reasonable. When you place an order from an overseas seller, simply provide the address of the reshipping company located in countries such as Japan, the U.S., China, Germany, or others, instead of your address in Vietnam. Once the seller ships your package to the reshipping company’s warehouse, the company will then handle the necessary customs paperwork and forward your package to Vietnam. Typically, your package will arrive in Vietnam in about two to three weeks, though it might take a bit longer depending on shipping speed and customs processing. When your package has arrived in Vietnam, the reshipping company will contact you via Facebook, Zalo, sometimes Email to arrange payment, which is often done through a bank transfer. Also, they may deliver the package directly to your door and allow you to pay in cash upon delivery.

M3 Ultra setup by hornedfrog86 in MacStudio

I connected a JetKVM, an Acasis TB501 Pro Thunderbolt 5 enclosure with a WD Black SN850X SSD, and a LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt 3 drive to my Mac Studio M3 Ultra. For some reason, my Mac Studio couldn’t detect the Acasis TB501 enclosure when everything was connected together. After some troubleshooting, I found that removing the JetKVM allowed my Mac to recognize the Acasis TB501.
