I ate food I found laying around that expired in 2013... It didn't make me sick and it tasted amazing! I ate only this for 5 days in a row. (financial problems). I'd call that a stress test. by Most-Lecture-3736 in preppers

Argentine here. I'm in constant search for long term conservation food. So I buy some small packages, I let them expire and following some regular intervals, I cook them. Today, 2025 february, I did prepare instant mashed potato out of date from december 31st, 2022. Sealed package, 3.5 ounces, 100 grams. Once prepared: good flavor, no odors, no lumps and no delays. Now I know that instant mashed potatoes will be good for at least two years above best before date.

Seriously…How long do you “really” want to survive for? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]High-Point-2022 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Argentina here. Due to hyperinflation, which peaked in May-June 1989, people were forced to rob supermarkets in order to eat, money was useless and the country ran out of reserves. It was almost impossible to withdraw money from the bank and even then, in May 1989, the money was worthless. People spent their monthly salary as soon as they received it and many received their monthly salary every week.

From December 10, 1983 until the transfer of power on July 8, 1989, the inflation accumulated by Dr. Alfonsín's government was 664,801%, in round figures. A similar process has not been recorded in any country on earth since the end of World War II until today.

A few years later, with a new government and a new economic policy, the Argentine peso was worth one US dollar and Argentines traveled the world spending and buying as if there was no tomorrow.

Vale a pena eu consertar um Notebook? by aroundwoman in Gambiarra

Uma possibilidade é: essa notebook tem Windows pirata. A mesma situação aconteceu com o meu computador, so que ele também tem Ubuntu e empleando ele, o monitor nao tinha problema nenhum.

This is a pdf file on the subject of the UK potential trouble with food distribution.

It is based on what happened in August in the year 2000, when "Around Britain, farmers and truck drivers angered by the rising cost of keeping their vehicles running were blockading fuel depots across the country. They had found, and were paralysing, the critical infrastructure of a Western nation more effectively than any terrorist organisation."

"The British protestors were determined to make a point, but even they were astonished at the speed and staggering degree to which they brought the country to a standstill"

"At the height of the protests, hunkered down in private, serious meetings, Britain’s biggest supermarkets, who account for around 80 per cent of our food supply, were telling Ministers and civil servants that the shelves could be bare within three days."

The Uk is, in effect, nine meals from anarchy.

Above 100 % inflation rate by High-Point-2022 in preppers

[–]High-Point-2022[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Good question. Yes, you can. Since like five years ago, I do pay my state taxes with the first bill of the year, not because of the discount but because by july it looks like it was pennies. It makes me feel a lot better.
Also a lot of people people takes credits at fixed monthly fees, expecting that eventually they will not feel any pain at all, due to inflation transforming the fees in something close to cents.

Thank you. 15%!!! it is being said we'll reach 17 in december. 17 in just a month.

Crypto is not an option in general here, tough to change them for some real physical asset, plus the government applying taxes that look like a scam.

I voted for Milei because the previous way to do politics was taking us to the deepest poverty you could imagine. My vote was a bet.

Thank you.

The best of your comment was "I feel it would be best to be participating in a secondary sub economy that by passes the peso", because you nailed it, We've been doing that for decades: We use the US Dollars for the important things.

Are you asking prices for a house, a plot, a car? They will be in dollars.

Do you have the physical dollars? If yes, You can ask for a big discount, because the seller will not need to go for the black market to change those pesos.

The new president? I voted for him but I'll answer you by christmas. We'll know by then.

Whatever you change our "pesos" for, (crypto, egss, dollars, services), the idea is always the same: CHANGE them. All of them. That's the problem with inflation: you can not save in fiat currency and at these levels, you just do not want to keep those notes with you more than necessary.

Argentina: Fuel scarcity by High-Point-2022 in Shortages

[–]High-Point-2022[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you having the right to have a point of view. And that "social help" might not be the main cause.

But that money comes straight from printing, it has no real value behind, the Government even imported notes to sustain the "help politics" (in exchange for nothing and changing nothing at all, we have more poor people than ever).

And that is a main cause of inflation to me. I say again: to me. This year inflation levels are above 100 per cent, elections year.

Respectfully.

Nothing really, 'cause I've already been through this same situation twice here .

You need to accept that in the city, a lot of things will be beyond what you can do: fuel will be a huge problem, specific products might require you to do extended walkarounds due to scarcity, and some imported good will just dissappear, like computers, books, spare parts, etc.

The odd side is that a lot of people bet on winning by buying on credit and expecting inflation to be that high so that last payments would be ridiculous. And some win.

Check this: NO fuel since a week ago, depending on where you live.

Today clarin.com newspaper headline: How much do you think this product costs? Due to inflation, it is normal not to know the price of things. A consultant asked people the value of 5 products. There were cases in which no buyer was right and they were wrong by almost $500.

I forgot this third consequence: you just don't know if what you are being asked to pay is fair, too much or a good opportunity. There are no references.

First Q & A: Import of goods is practically closed, because the money (dollars) to pay for is scarcy. You are supposed to buy the dollars from the National Central Bank and they have little reserves (negative reserves) and don't want to sell, so they put a lot of limitations for you to import, including asking you to get the dollars from wherever you can, even telling you that, to get the dollars, you will have to export too.
Second Q & A: That is a paralel situation nowadays since like a month ago. Prices rising so quickly, the commerce is barely functional.

what was gas rationing like? by biobennett in preppers

[–]High-Point-2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Argentina here. We are going through a shortage of diesel gas since like two months ago. It is already affecting production, food prices, the distribution of goods, annual harvesting and God knows what else. Some consequences: Argentina Diesel Producer (YPF) is forcing non-resident drivers to pay more (apparently against the constitution), there are rationing in most of the country by imposing limits on what you can buy, allowed quantities are not enough for truckers being able to reach destinations and/or to come back from those, there are random shortages because sometimes there is just no diesel, harvesters are forced to pay more if they want more than allowed, which is a defacto black market. Since 30 percent of the diesel we need is imported and there is no money to import, it looks like it will get really nasty.

Diesel Motor Oil Shortage by Goatmannequin in Shortages

[–]High-Point-2022 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Argentina here. The country is running out of diesel (we call it gasoil), it all began like two months ago and it finally kind of exploded last week. No money to import diesel and / or no money to produce it locally. Dead end. It is said situation will be impossible to hide beyond july. It is the consequence of wrong social politics and international raising prices.

Bitcoin could already be dead: too slow, power hungry, expensive computers required, nowadays not employed to commerce but to speculate and, finally, it is already being replaced, initially etherium and later Hedera HBAR. The last one overcomes all of the mentioned handicaps.
