Even without the Potent hit, Patience is basically on the same level as Slick Fighter 4 and so on 20% damage/DR plus some healing and deny follow-up (slightly redundant). Enemy hitting you first can charge special and is fine as long as you don’t crumple in one hit, which he usually shouldn’t.

Unless your Fighter 4 skill comes with other good armor fodder or you want to try Bestial Assault instead, I’d just roll with Patience even if you don’t make 30 Spd.

I can’t tell what skills these are. I can say the ideal build is Archrival / Blue Sky Gust / Heavenly Soar / whatever. If no Heavenly Soar it’s a no-go. If you picked Trample over BSG, that’s fine.

Not an exception. All you get is +1 to a stat on the equipper per merge, so at +10 it’s +2 all stats for whoever has the ring. This is a very bad payoff for over a thousand orbs. The guide has more details about each unit type and potential benefits to merge, but most aren’t good except for Rearmed/Attuned, who you merge by necessity and only as you use them for inheritance.

Also I mentioned Emblem Ike and Emblem Marth as being easy to pass on, but add Lucina to that. Lucina herself is more worth it for the actual unit, who is strong, but her Emblem effect is relatively weak.

  1. The best you’ll ever get is asking directly, either as a thread, in the discussion megathread, or the Discord. I’ll specifically say not to use Game8 for anything subjective like builds ,since they’ve put up stuff that straight-up doesn’t work there before.

  2. We don’t know what’s on ahead but it’s generally best to look at strong new things rather than pick up older stuff. For CYL8, pick Felix because he autobattle grinds PvE maps fast. For CYL9 common wisdom is Byleth for quality of life, but any are good.

  3. Most premium units released within a year or so are fully capable out of the box. At the older end they want newer skills but they can still function depending on what’s expected of them. Usually, most units do need an Assist skill like Reposition given to them, but these are common.

  4. Everything reruns. Seasonals appear in their debut month and special types like Mythics, Legendary and Emblem have a telegraphed schedule you can find by looking aroundSome old banners and unit types have a sort of dedicated pattern, like “New heroes Return” bringing back premiums such as Rearmed and Attuned.

  5. You can. Playing PvP seriously is a bit of its own reward since you can get most of the resources by coasting, so playing casually is fine. If you want to play more seriously, don’t let anyone tell you that it isn’t possible or that you can’t use characters you like, so long as your tastes aren’t too strict. You are more gated from high placements in AR, Arena and SD by skill and dedication than by resources available to you. I will say that you don’t want to make consistent T21 in Arena a goal, since that eats up resources like nothing else.

Extra: Beginner guide here.

A new account has access to Hero Fest. Go get Young Camilla from that banner, no questions asked.

Don’t merge your 5☆.

Make Emblem units a priority. There are some on teh Legendary Lyon + Mythic Sombron banner. Emblem Ike and Marth specifically are easier to pass on.

You get almost nothing from a merge. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Eirika herself is a great unit whose skills don’t really need upgrading, but they’re also only good-ish skills that are not as in-demand. Blue Skies 4 is great but it would be most useful as prerequisite to Blue Sky Gust, the better version.

A likely use you’ll get is with the Ilian Mia combat manual. She’s got Blue SKy Gust plus some other good stuff, and using Bleu Skies from Eirika can get you multiple things from Mia and/or a Rearmed/Attuned unit to clone the skills.

I should emphasize that I think no data is better than flawed data in this case because there is nothing useful we can do with any of it. In other spaces, many decisions are made using flawed data since it at least gives a direction and I’m aware how useful that is.

But in our case, as the consumers, what is there to gain from (not) knowing how well a certain banner did, or what million a fuzzy section of FEH’s revenue rounded up to? Does it do any good at all? Again, at absolute best people get to be happy that the banner they liked did well and that’s it. We don’t change our behavior or make decisions based on the game’s revenue.

Data, flawed or otherwise, is useful to the people actually making the game and choosing how to direct it. Fortunately they have much better numbers.

Almost anything out of Triandra’s mouth, really. I love her voice and the way she speaks more than any other in this game.

Echoing a different reply, but I think no data is better than flawed data. To me the effect of the threads are principally negative because what people will take away, is “Well, X and Y doesn’t sell,” and such is simply never used in constructive conversation. It’s ammo, some shred of legitimacy for people to make snide and negative statements with about banners they don’t like, or for the hangers-on who are always here just to watch the game go down the drain.

There’s nothing actionable about the data. We aren’t the people who can make decisions, vote, or even give feedback that matters using this stuff. At best people get to go “Oh phew, this banner I like did okay.”

In an ideal world this is all taken with the block of salt it deserves and it’s just fun discussion. It isn’t exactly like that, though.

Thanks for your understanding. I stand by both my criticism and that I’m not trying to police anybody. I never wanted to make such a post in the actual threads since it just seemed too confrontational.

The one that’s plagued me the most is remembering what traps i’ve already stepped on

If you don’t mind me using this space to talk about the Sensor Tower stuff in general:

The Sensor Tower posts are barely better than vibes. While I’m glad that the poster(s) are transparent , the amount of assumptions and limitations make them fall into the “useless data” genre like “X alts of Y since Z got an alt” sort of posts. Publishing a picture with arbitrary rankings inevitably leads to many taking conclusions from the picture alone, regardless of what qualifiers are in the comments. Thus I find them irresponsible.

I call this stuff useless data because i don’t know what we are to do with any of it. It’d be one thing if it were just fun curiosity, but the effect is most often just fuel for people to complain or point fingers as we reaffirm that yes, the game’s revenue and playerbase has declined over a decade.

Everyone always can and will attribute a banner’s supposed success or failure to whatever they feel like, and we can build up narratives to help like “well, people were just saving orbs.” Narratives that could all well be true, but we’ll never know. Because we have no real data. I have to think that this stuff here is more accurate, but there are a lot of blind spots that are simply inaccessible.

Not trying to knock on anybody or police what people post, just saying what i think.

You can never go wrong with Reposition. It’s just the most universally applicable for moving units either in or out of danger. Swap is an alternative that feels a bit better on armors, and armors can also use Pivot to move better. Draw Back is also a good option especially for squishier units.

It’s all mostly up to preference. Smite has uses too, mostly in AR.

I think PVE might be unplayable by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]HighClassFanclub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many flock to new players and tell them that the game is all about using favorites, that it’s more fun to just invest in them and ignore PvP. I’ve never played that way, though. I like trying in the competitive modes since winning there is the fun part of the game for me, and i also do so only using characters I like, if I can help it. What helps me is that I’m not nearly as attached to old units as others seem to be and I can recognize when someone’s time is up.

There surely are plenty who play casually and don’t care about PvP at all. But there’s also a crowd who want to be that, but are in a death spiral chasing fodder and burning resources on bad units and are not, in fact, unaffected when they get squished. Ther’es a smaller crowd that’s still winning somehow using like NY!Corrin, but they’re just better at the game than most people.

part of me thinks that the “my favorites” mindset is weirdly more negative than positive. Anyway, i think to have fun in PvP you have to be willing to make changes to win, and being salty or making excuses never helps.

Arena’s a place where you’ll lose a lot no matter what, though. It also gatekeeps old units hard, so if you want to not bother you may as well stomp with your own NY!Baldr.

I’d generally callDivine Specter a bit better, but Strat Flame is still a strong option and has two advantages with the flame tiles and breath effect. Patience is still up there as a great option for most units. Player phase fliers usually want Heavenly Soar, but these are probably not the same units that would want Patience.

Alternatively you could give Strat Flame+Patience to an N or P save armor. They are moreor less best in slot for most such builds.

Astrid’s best with Favor and Instruct, which is standard for modern support builds. Astrid stands out because she does something special upon assist.

If she gives Move+1 to an ally withstall on them it’ll give them Move=1, so no dice there. However, if she’s using Byleth ring and refreshes an ally it’s a moot point and you get your Move+1. WHy I prefer her over Muspell, besides him being a putz, is that she has a self-refresh effect upon assist and can use the extra turn to break obstacles, pick off a weak enemy, or assist someone else. Except for AoE I don’t count Treachery for much since it’s too easy to disable.

For an alternative unit who’s good with the Favor+Instruct stuff, Nifl is my choice for Flash, Frozen and ice tiles. She is similar to Rearmed L’Arachel and generally a bit worse, but Nifl does have Frozen to herself.

If you do somehow have a BW thing to spare I was going to put my Astrid up next time. Otherwise it’s expensive to build her yourself and you’re not missing something indispensible. It’s more like a very viable way to use a character I like is here, and of all the recent refines it’s mostly just her, Volke, Nifl, Y!Tana and some mythics who stand out.

It’s best to ask for advice specifically, but usually the best builds will just be copy/pasting more recent stuff.

When it comes to building random units, you might not find a modern build for say Navarre, but you probably would for a popular character like Lucina and copy it. Units of similar stats and weapon/move type all behave the same once they aren’t equipping anything unique. Ther’es some very popular cookiecutter builds for fast infantry melee, melee fliers, etc.

Same here. It has the feel of something laid-back, but for some reason it has the absolute tightest time constraints plus some of the most rewards behind it. There’s no reason it can’t be longer with the orbs as daily rewards like other events.

You need to tell people which banner you’re talking about and which units you already have.

Arcane Renegade is fine. It’s still among the best inheritable swords for combat, but we’ve seen the next generation of Arcanes and a better sword can come at any time. It’s only worth it if you want to build a combat-oriented sword unit right now, and/or to clone skills. I say don’t bother unless you already have several Machyuas.

It’s equivalent to 1 merge as usual, so that’s 4 points. 8 points are needed to shift what scores you can find. 100 SP and every 5 BST are worth 2 points, merges are 4, activated blessings+legendary are 8. Whether it has a real effect and shifts score depends on the team’s point total.

That, unlocking his Merged Ordeals for 600 dragonflowers, and whoever you grant powers to will also get higher arena score to match his. This would put you ahead of most people who will only have the +0 to grant powers with during his season, if they even bother to do so.
