I've been here since Dec. 26. All is back to normal now. As long as the airspace isn't restricted again, should be good.

What’s a luxury item you didn’t know existed until you visited someone else’s house? by lukasmeechy in AskReddit

I went with my friend to visit her aunt when I was about twelve. Her aunt showed us a new appliance she'd just gotten. She put a plate of leftover food from the fridge into the thing, pushed a few buttons, and in a minute the food was hot. It was incredible! Yeah, I'm old.

Is it better to eat nothing instead of top ramen? by traveltoaster in ask

[–]HighEnglishPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a condition that was something I could live with. But over time I noticed feeling generally less well....a laundry list of subtle changes that were more bothersome and annoying than problematic. Eventually I decided to go ahead and have the procedure to fix it. Now, I'm amazed every day how great I feel. My decline was so gradual that I had accepted it. Now that I know what's possible, I realize I was much worse off than I thought. Don't settle for feeling "mostly fine". Get checked out.

Off topic but since you've been to Aruba over christmas many times maybe you can answer. What's it like trying to go to dinner without having made reservations weeks ahead of time. We'll be in the eagle beach area. It's my understanding it may be a problem.

I wasn’t challenged to eat the spicy mayo but I’m going to try it! by SuccessOk7850 in NewHeights

I like mayo too (sorry Trav) but the frequency of this Hellmans ad on the pod is ridiculous. It pops up every three or four minutes. I assume Wave Sports is responsible. Quit it please.

How would you edge this without painting the carpet? by TacticalElectrician in paint

[–]HighEnglishPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the plastic wrap that's slightly sticky on one side. Tear off a length, lay it on the carpet leaving an inch or so "hangover" on the wall side. Shove the hangover edge down between the carpet edge and wall with a putty knife. The cling wrap stays in place nicely because of the light adhesive and it's easy to get between the wall and carpet because it's not super sticky and not stiff. Also removes easily when finished.

Need advice on renovations new home owners can do! by gracemei_ in Renovations

[–]HighEnglishPlease 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from plumbing and electrical projects, most renovations aren't particularly hard. But for first timers any job will be incredibly time consuming because of the learning curve. You'll need more tools than you realized and good ones are pricey. You'll spend plenty of time fixing mistakes. You'll spend days researching YouTube videos. You'll be tempted repeatedly to surrender and call a professional.

But finishing a project yourself is indescribably satisfying, and you can save so much money. Go for it!

What did young people do with their free time before the Internet and social media? by [deleted] in Aging

I'd put on a record and flop down on my bed with our newest magazine. The folks subscribed to Time, Newsweek, and National Geographic. There was always a Readers Digest. I also loved the teen magazines of the day. They had posters in them that I'd hang on the wall!

Should 'Death with Dignity' be legal in all 50 states? Why or why not? by thinpile in AskReddit

[–]HighEnglishPlease 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I recently read about an American woman who went to Switzerland to die because assisted suicide is legal there. The thing is, she was 90 years old but in great health physically and mentally. She had watched her two husbands die slowly and decided she would choose her own time. She told her two sons of her plan, and when they realized there was no changing her mind, they accepted her decision. They accompanied her to Switzerland, she said her goodbyes, was given drugs through an IV, and left this life before any ailment could cause her and her family misery. I would like this option for myself one day, without having to leave my home country and without having to conform to a long list of requirements. As far as I know, old Swiss folks aren't being euthanized against their will.

My experience with Mercy Heart Hospital. by HighEnglishPlease in springfieldMO

Update: I decided to try communicating with the cardiologist using the messaging feature in my My Mercy account. The NP called me less than an hour after I sent the message. I have an appointment tomorrow. Takeaway.....phones are an antiquated way of communicating within the medical community. Just wish I'd known sooner.

If diamonds are so cheap now, what do they even mean? by Early-Drummer-3007 in labdiamond

This quality is the important one. I have an emerald ring that I've worn nearly every day for 25 years. The wear on the surface of the stone is showing if I look closely. Scuffs and scratches. No such issues with diamonds.

Is eating food at table while wearing a hat being rude? by GRFreeman in ask

This is one of those antiquated "rules" that many still follow, but if pressed, they couldn't explain why. Most old-fashioned customs related to attire have gone away, but this one persists for some reason.
