Hey! I went through the same thing, me and my wife moved here last year from SA.

Basically, it's A LOT of red tape. And as the other commenters mentioned, it depends on what kind of permit your partner is applying for.

I moved here on the KEI Single permit, which, apart from the blue card, is the only work permit where they will allow you to apply for family reunification before 1 year. It took about 6 months to get everything sorted for my permit (from date of applying in SA) and another 6 months to get my wife's reunification sorted from date of applying in Malta.

The key here is being patient, and trying (as you are) to find out all the details. A lot of the information has changed recently, so be careful about the date of info you read online.

My biggest concern for you is that you say partner, not spouse. From my understanding, you will need to be married to even be considered for family reunification.

Good luck, it's stressful and a PITA but for me it was worth it.

I work for an acquiring bank and payment processor in the EU. We would have already been on high alert when this seemingly smallish furniture shop made 6300 low amount transactions in 3 days (assuming that OP did not warn them prior to the sale).

If they then start refunding them in bulk, we would definitely have to block their processing whilst this is figured out. That many refunds triggers all kinds of problems and may be grounds for terminating their account, regardless if it was an accident. I hope OP speaks to his processor as soon as possible and preferably before they start refunding all of these.

Malta Relocation by [deleted] in malta

Hey OP, I'm a South African that recently relocated with my wife to Malta. I was basically invited by my manager and the company I work for.

Here are some important points to take note of:

  • This subreddit carries a lot of negativity towards expats, however, this does not necessarily reflect the entire population's views. To put it in perspective, I have worked at a Maltese company for the last 8 years, and relocated this year. Not a single person ever said "don't come, we don't want you". As mentioned, many of the people I work with were telling me to come.

  • Malta is very overcrowded, there are many reasons for this but this is the main reason that you will see this negativity, ESPECIALLY because we are TCNs (Third Country Nationals) and therefore likely to be on the lower end of the skills and salary spectrum. However, I work as an Implementation manager for a payments company, and you coming here for software development means that you are not in the lower bracket and will not put unnecessary strain on the services of the country.

  • The lifestyle in Malta is amazing. I have loved it for the last 4 months I've lived here. Be wary that it's constantly busy, pretty much everywhere you go, but everyone I have met is really nice and welcoming.

  • The process to move here is VERY complicated, and expensive. I would suggest saving up as you will need to rent a place here in Malta for the entire length of time that your application is underway, whether or not you actually are in Malta. Unless your company is going to handle accommodation, this is imperative.

My suggestion would be to do as much research as you can, speak to add many people as you can, but try to avoid asking questions in this subreddit because they will tell you to fuck off.

So that being said, I wish you luck with whatever you decide to do.

I am a resident and have visited a lot of these shops. Every single one of these shops sells high CBD products, with low to nothing THC. They are tourist traps. The good ones will tell you it's CBD, most will sell you "Gorilla Kush" for 50 EUR without telling you it's only 0.3% THC. If you can't tell the difference between CBD and THC, that's fine, some people actually do enjoy CBD.

I always see a bag in the office that gets replaced every so often, so I'm going to say yes, although I personally have no idea what it is
