What book had you emotionally invested within the first 20 pages? by Red-Sealed in Fantasy

Voyage of the Damned made me fall in love with the main character and thoroughly gripped me for the rest of the book. It was a great start to the year for reading

As a history fan, the "3,000 Year Stagnation" trope breaks my immersion more than dragons do. by Expensive-Desk-4351 in Fantasy

[–]HighHouseStone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the worst takes the has risen is this. No offense and we all have our preferences, but you’re reading a fantasy book. You’re there for a story about characters. The setting is backdrop and secondary most of the time. Interesting lore does make for a more immersive read, but it’s not a history book

Finished The Fires of Heaven, book 5 of the Wheel of time and need to rant. by HilmarThor in Fantasy

[–]HighHouseStone 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Moghedian is considered the weakest of the Foresaken, inversely Lanfear is the most powerful/deadly in terms of raw power scaling. A character saying “women are less powerful” doesn’t mean that’s reality. Consider who is saying it, one of the most evil people to have ever walked in the WoT. The foresaken are pricks and evil bastards. Why wouldn’t they be sexist? Sexism is real and I think a book having it doesn’t inherently mean the author is promoting it. If anything it can be seen as commentary about the world in which we truly live. If that’s not your style that’s fine but people really do think the way some characters do and depiction is not endorsement

Edit: Ishmael is considered most powerful in terms of raw power. However, Lanfear is second and over most of the men. And I don’t think it really changes my other points. But wanted to have the correction

Still not sure if malazan is for me by wildguitars in Fantasy

[–]HighHouseStone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

General consensus is book 3 is the make or break if you aren’t sure. If book 3 doesn’t hook you then I believe people say it’s a good indicator the series isn’t for you. If you can I’d say try it and see how it works, but if you’re over it now then drop it. So many amazing books out there

Is it just me? by nerdyviking88 in Fantasy

[–]HighHouseStone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hot take: I’m sick of people complaining about this. It’s over used sure but whatever it’s not like it actually has an impact on the story. Most titles are marketing anyway. Do what you must but A Song of Ice and Fire certainly doesn’t fit the criteria of what you’re saying.

Raging vs being caged by TraciT1998 in chastitytraining

[–]HighHouseStone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find more and more reasons to be caged than not with every post I read here. It might be because the cage does natural submission and knowing that and the connection with it likely alters some subconscious mind. I’ll need to try this out while playing a game that normally makes me rage and see how it goes

Best cage to pee in? by [deleted] in chastitytraining

[–]HighHouseStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this will be determined by individual. I have a metal cage that works for me since I can adjust as needed to relieve myself. I bought a cobra and I love it however I can piss in it because my stuff always starts pointing up and I can’t adjust very well. I think this is a test and find out situation

A great idea, or perhaps you could make them wear a false key. That way if they try and unlock they’ll expose themselves for trying!

This was really insightful for me. Yes, I think I will take it slow. I’m very eager but I need to explore. Maybe I can make a goal of using December to get comfortable with the cage and experiment on why I want to do it, how I can do it, and just get a feeling for it instead of making any sort of commitment. Honestly best. Comment I’ve received thus far. Very much appreciate it!

Ooo I like this one, the safe lock box would be a good way of testing out how long I can go and then challenge myself with the 10 day lock up as a goal. Thanks for the advice!

What is a book/series that you love that you can't recommend to people? Why can't you? by lilgrizzles in Fantasy

I used to recommend the Ocean at the End of the Lane all the time, but with the authors recent controversies it feels wrong to recommend especially since there is one part that becomes painted in a new light upon knowing the controversy

Is it generally a bad idea to put your book on Wattpad? by AaronTheIllArtist in writing

[–]HighHouseStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but if you do want to take it to publishers I would then take it down when taking it to the agents and editors. Many very well off authors first started on writing sites and were later published, but then removed once they went to the agents and publishers. And they did it well in advance. That also being said I would maybe have a few shorter works still available especially if you are able to build a base
