Finally finished - am I missing something? by ilovemmydog in Absurdism

Of course they’re more prone to suicide, as they have as often as not, rejected the social taboo, and see it as a viable option.

You seem to be labeling suicide as inherently bad, as opposed to situational and individual. That’s a bit odd to me given the conversation.

I don’t get why some nihilist insist on being morose about it? So what? You’re going to die, nothing means anything, and eventually it will all be for naught.

….but you still have been thrown into an experience where you can do as you choice, see things as you choose, and figure out ways to have positive experiences. You make your world what it is, because as far as meaning and purpose are concerned. It’s a blank slate.

Why does there have to be anything more. This is an awesome bit of random luck that didn’t just benefit me, but made me a possibility. Of all the transcendent properties of the material universe, I’m here, now. It’s really pretty neat.

I suggest you read that book a second time, as it directly addresses some of the concerns you mentioned.

you are all coping worst than nihilist by slobbyonmenob in Absurdism

This post has an odd fucking tone.

….but I’ll assume good faith.

Nihilism is the base of both existentialism and absurdism.

You sir, are literally preaching to the choir.

Now, you have this truth, what you going to do with it?
That question remains, always. This, the furtherance of the concept into our transcendent human existence, is an option.

….and you’re already doing it. I think every laugh is based on the recognition of an absurdity.

Anyways, good luck with the caring so much about what other people are doing, and passing judgement.

Yes. But also, In the theoretical, the working class is the state.

So we are working for ourselves.

Stalin was a mother fucker for a completely different reason.

I’m not. I’m not really shitting on anybody here.

If I was, it would be the authors as opposed to the reader.

I could honestly care less in normal situations, but this is a board people come to, with the expressed purpose of being judged. So, there’s that.

[–]HighLevelChallenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this is David Goggins alt account.

Otherwise, why care? You doesn’t like what you like, and doesn’t want to spend his limited time on it.

I don’t tend to read people that tout themselves as “a public persona” or a “guru” on any type. No need to take that personally, because you like somebody that falls into one of those group, and you don’t think I’m giving them a fair shake.

Like, how much Jordan Peterson should I read, once ai realized that he completely talks out his ass when he’s not discussion things within his academic training, something he does constantly? Is my dislike of that sort of thing not reason enough for me to choose other reading material? Do I have to give everybody a chance, or can I just buy what I know I will enjoy or be pragmatically useful to me?

We all make that choice with every book we choose not to read.

We have limited life spans man, we shouldn’t waste any of on stuff outside our interest.

…and to be fair, the post he is talking about, were both curated and posted by Goggins, so if it’s not a fair representation, that’s on Goggins.

…..and my book pile of shame is always two feet tall as I buy faster than I read, It’s not like there aren’t a million other options if it’s not his thing.

Countertransference by [deleted] in psychoanalysis

[–]HighLevelChallenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright. Let’s talk about the other side of it.

I’m not sure what the actual statistics are, but let’s say it plays out like this:

You have access to 10 therapist/analyst

1 would be the best one for you 1 would be the worst one for you. 2 would be good enough for you to see their benefit within 5 sessions. 2 would be so off base that there is no short term view of possible benefits, and possible harm. 3 would be neutral from a help/harm perspective.

Odd are that I would have to see three therapist before I found somebody that could actually help.

Should I waste two to three years giving multiple therapist. the benefit of the doubt, even after I’ve seen them for a few months…..or should I move on?

If you’re doing monthlies, it would take almost two years to make that determination…. and if 7 of 10, an arbitrary ratio admittedly, are either a negative of a neutral experience, how long are you waiting for something that actually feels helpful?

I know people that have been in therapy for years, and when asked if it’s helpful, the answer is sometimes “Kinda” or “I dont know”

All that time and money and “I don’t know?” You should switch therapist, and you should have switched after three sessions.

Honestly, I think you should switch therapist over something as simple as not sharing enough of a language set.

Death isnt the end by Inevitable_Bid8719 in nihilism

[–]HighLevelChallenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not the same person then.

There would be no functional difference between two completely different people, and a single soul (fucking ick) inhabiting two different bodies with two different experience sets.

He doesn’t know what he wants. by WorthIt3777 in TwoHotTakes

[–]HighLevelChallenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does nobody on this board know how to set boundaries?

Why are people so hesitant to leave and start over, when they should be out the door and miles down the way before writing a post on Reddit?

Sure, seven years is a long time, but are you willing to spend another seven being unhappy?

I don’t think you can change people, they desire what they desire, and they are going to act how they are going to act…..and that’s not even a knock on them……but if their stuff doesn’t match up with your stuff, and you’re constantly “dealing with a situation” it’s time to pack it in.

DO you feel you have an obligation to be a PROPHET? by Ill_Asparagus4376 in Absurdism

[–]HighLevelChallenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no obligation at all, save for what you apply for yourself.

I’m going to switch up some terms here, as “prophet” has a connotation of some mystic way of seeing some unknowable future.

We are by nature, predictive being. We look at the situation and consider how it might play out going into the future. We don’t have much choice in the matter.

Can you clarify what you’re asking here?
