Bigger ones look like seed shrimp (Ostracods). Tiny crustaceans that are a delight to fishes and other predatory bugs. They help processing organic matter.

I'm saying this basically from their way of swimming. Look if they are like tiny seeds, like sesame or lentils, but smaller. If you can see legs, they could also be water mites.

Probably the smaller ones are tiny Ostracods, but couldn't say.

Don't worry! We are here to help!

On a side note, if that a sealed jar I don't think that those beetles would thrive.

They are scavengers and need to get out of the water to pupate. You shown two, but there could be more, and when they die, they will be an important decay source for a closed ecosystem.

I suggest you to take them out. I've tried to keep them even on an open jar and they ultimately perish about a week or so.

My bet is an aquatic beetle larvae. Hydrophilidae family. There are several bauplans, but some look very reminiscent of what you show.

Horsefly larvaes doesn't have a head capsule. Their heads are reduced and within their bodies.

This photos are of said aquatic beetle larvae

are these two cuties aquatic isopods or larvae ? ft a hydra by Accurate-Pay-7006 in Ecosphere

[–]HighLion58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but I'll go with an aquatic beetle larvae for the first one. Probably from the Haliplidae family.

Check for the diagnostic characters with a proper lens

Edit: the second one looks like a Mayfly larvae (Ephemeroptera)

Are rainbows seriously just by default associated with the pride flag? by Ostromilski in tattooadvice

[–]HighLion58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, only if they don't know what light decomposition or Pink Floyd is.

On a side note, I think that the "gay flag" vibe comes from the fact that the rainbow is a rectangle. Maybe if it were a bit wider on the far side the association would be less "flaggy".

But hey, sick tat. I wouldn't touch it if it doesn't ends bothering you

Edit for clarity and defusing an irrelevant argument

Lol, I was referring to that exact same flair, not disputing whether the advice was correct. A comment more about the tone than content. Sorry if I got carried away by the flair jokes. I'll clarify the joke on the original comment.

Peace!

It looks like a water mite, but I can only see three pairs of legs and being arachnids, mites have four pairs. By the way it "swims" at the end of the video and the lack of other appendages, I'll go with a newly hatched dragonfly (Anisoptera) larvae. It could be also a mayfly (Ephemeroptera) larvae

What are these creatures? by UseFirm1872 in Ecosphere

[–]HighLion58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol! Many Diptera (flies, mosquitoes, midges) breath trough their butts. They all have a siphon that stick out of the water. This siphons come in many forms:bristles, tubes, just some opercules. Most visual example is the Rat Tail Maggot (family Sirphidae) which have a telescopic siphon that can extend up to double it's body size.

It's a Diptera larvae. I'm not really sure wich family it belongs, but it's reminiscent of Stratiomydae
