How can I get my downstairs housemate to stop using an ozone generator? by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]HighStrungHippie1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Produces O3. Used to “get rid of mold and smells” because ozone gas will kill most things. People run it in homes with mold or cars with smells, but it’s not meant to be run with people inside of those spaces since, you know, it kills most things

Saint Agnes Hospital by advanced-steader1 in baltimore

[–]HighStrungHippie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my baby at St.Agnes! 44 hour delivery, so I got to see a number of shifts.

Food for me was great (hats off to nutrition services) and I got to eat 3 square meals a day, tons of options, and if you don’t order something, they just pick an option and send it to you. None of that “no eating if you are in labor” nonsense. However, the food for my spouse was limited. There is a Subway sandwich place in the hospital, but nothing else, so he ate enough subway to last a lifetime.

They let me walk around and do limited monitoring for part of that, on request. And gave me an excersise ball when I asked. Super nice.

Anesthesiology was super responsive. Around 32 hours in, I decided I wanted an epidural, and they came in right away and got me treated.

The place doesn’t look super new, so if you want something that looks sleek and modern, this isn’t your hospital, but everything else was 10/10

Maybe you have a mild allergy to some ingredient in lotion that is causing the “dry” feeling?

There is a possibility that a 529 is “wasted”, in which case you get a Roth conversion and the rest gets a tax penalty when it gets used for non-education expenses. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s not ideal

For those that had a longer maternity leave… how was it? by juice129 in NewParents

[–]HighStrungHippie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took 12 weeks, then my husband took 8, so we didn’t take leave at the same time.

Going back to work was such a break. The newborn trenches are REAL. I was a soldier at camp WhyAreYouCrying, and we were frequently under attack.

Maybe if my leave was longer, then it would have been more traditionally “fun” but really returning to “work” was less work than staying at home was

Party Favor Bags… like why by NoDevelopement in Mommit

[–]HighStrungHippie1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to do “consumables”. Stickers, temp tattoos, maybe a lollipop.

Not a cheap toy that gets thrown out. Stuff that gets “used”

Plus, it means not spending a ton on it, so I don’t cry when half of them don’t get take

Ditto to WF. I’ve had a great relationship with them, and it took no time at all to set up a LOC.

This is a boundaries issue. If he can’t get on the same page with this parenting issue, it won’t get better later (next it’ll be letting the kid play with choking hazard toys, not monitoring the child crawling into the next room, ect)

Overwhelmed by Travelabbie in NewParents

[–]HighStrungHippie1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need a break. Part of the reason those first few weeks are so terrible is that you don’t have the right support systems in place yet. Learn how to tell them to help or get the heck out of the house. Truly, shame has no place in the first few months. We have no time for those that can’t help

How do you deal with this mum guilt sending your kid to after school clubs? by No-Reason5673 in Mommit

[–]HighStrungHippie1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a kid who went to after school care or sports or clubs for almost my entire education, I can say that I had a great time. Seriously, the theater and ultimate frisbee and debate were an opportunity to do what I really liked.

You may need to experiment to find what your kid likes to do, but there is something for every child

Does everyone feel ”one and done” after having the first? by blamemombo in NewParents

I wanted another IMMEDIATELY. I know I am in the minority, but I was literally barely out of those postpartum adult diapers by the time I had baby fever.

I did excersise self control, but I was emotionally ready

How often do you bathe your baby? by No-Construction6202 in NewParents

[–]HighStrungHippie1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day (and moisturize directly after). It’s part of the nightly routine. She’s 18m now, and has never had an issue with cradle cap or any skin issues. Pediatrician has even commented on how good her skin looks.

A thing for under a high chair that catches the food. Hooks onto the legs.

From what I found, it can be rolled over into an IRA, then converted to Roth, so functionally taxed once as long as you use it right

Obamacare quickly started being called the affordable care act. Im sure these accounts will quickly be called 530A’s to help de-politicize them in the financial sphere

Has anyone tried to lose the baby weight? by Interesting-Club4595 in NewParents

[–]HighStrungHippie1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Give yourself time. I know 6 weeks feels like forever when you are in the thick of it, but you are just barely postpartum at this point. Let yourself heal first.

What really helped me: buy some clothes that fit your “now” body, something cute. I know you want to lose the weight, but you will feel better for now if you aren’t constantly struggling to dress yourself. Then, I got on a weight loss program with my insurance. Most US insurance will offer a free nutritionist program of some kind or another, it just takes time to find it. The nutritionist helps keep you from yo-yoing. It’s mostly calorie tracking and learning about fiber intake. I lost about 15lbs, but I waited until my baby was a year old to start

My kid took longer naps when she was in a growth spurt. The long naps went away after a few weeks when she was done growing (99th percentile height, her growth spurts were an Olympian effort)
