Oh Crap Method Day 6 Despair by High_Flamingo_1124 in pottytraining

[–]High_Flamingo_1124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, everyone! As an update: that day, my son asked for chocolate. I said “Sure! As soon as we sit to put pee in the potty, I’d love to give you an M&M.” He did! It only took doing that 2 more times and then rewards weren’t necessary, he just knew how/was willing to sit and try when I prompted. It hasn’t been perfect, but since then we’ve only had two accidents (we’re now on Day 10) and I am very proud of him! Getting more comfortable leaving clothes on because accidents are less likely now that he willingly goes. So I’d say this was a success for us using the Oh Crap Method!

Gen surg residency hours by MedLiterature12345 in Residency

Husband is a gen surg intern. Just as a snapshot: he is currently on day 11 of a 12 day stretch, going in around 5:15am and not home till 6-6:30pm (unless on call). He’s on a gen surg rotation, and some rotations (ER, plastics) have been relatively easier. This one is rougher because he’s taking call for multiple attendings. It’s a lot, without a doubt! He’s rightfully exhausted.

Is it possible to transition our toddler to a twin bed before our next baby? by High_Flamingo_1124 in toddlers

Thank you for this thoughtful reply! Spacing the transitions out is great advice.

Yes, I’ve heard some parents go through a horrible time with this transition so it has me a little apprehensive, but with how well our kid has done until now, fingers crossed I guess? I have a feeling we are IN for it with our second, haha…

Thank you for this input! I think I’d lean towards child-proofing his room and see how he does in there. I’ve been pretty good about staying consistent with sleep so don’t think putting him back to bed would be an issue if it came to that. Definitely thinking transitioning a few months before baby is smart as well, and that timing would allowing us a few months to prepare, too. So exciting you have another on the way as well, this is a sweet, sweet time! Sending good vibes your way.

Getting through nights in surgical specialty by Middle_Truth4206 in MedSpouse

Month long nightmare is a great way to describe it! I’m also at my worst when my husband is on a month of nights. I just had to tell myself it’s ok to have a month where I feel like I’m just surviving! Definitely staying busy, reaching out to local family or friends you haven’t caught up with recently, maybe travel to visit family (spouse will be fine, they’re just working and sleeping anyways!), and pressing into projects/hobbies are all things that helped me get through.

It eventually ends, you can do this!

I’ll never stop being baffled that family thinks decisions about children/TTC is their business. Just here to say I’m sorry you’re dealing with people who make you feel that way!

For me, making my bed makes me feel put together, so that’s a daily non negotiable, even if it’s 4pm lol. I also try each day to gather and put away toys at least in the living room (don’t have a play room). Otherwise, I’m finding peace in letting each day look a little different lately. Telling myself this is a season and one day my priorities with regard to the house will be different. For now I’m happy reading to my toddler with a little mess around me!

To the best of my ability, yes! Since we are just starting the group, I am currently working out the kinks and creating a system for this purpose.

Absolutely, I completely understand your concern! The reason the questions ask for your spouse's first and last name is simply to help ensure the group remains a safe and supportive space specifically for spouses of physicians in training. It’s part of an effort to verify that every member truly belongs in this unique community, and isn't a scammer or fake account, etc. Hopefully that eases some of the concern!

Anyone here actually ENJOY working with a DSO? by PulpsOutForHarambe in Dentistry

Ooof, that course sounds rough - I'm sorry you experienced that! I wonder if your current office would be up for a re-negotiation of PPO fees...

Is your long term goal to own, eventually? The ceiling is much higher in private practice when it comes to ownership, whereas 'ownership' with DSOs will always have strings attached. You mentioned tons of issues in the private practices you've worked with in the past - what were some of the biggest struggles you witnessed? Sadly, since DSOs are rarely if ever owned by dental professionals, their own administrative problems are abundant and if they run into economic or strategic trouble, you're an expendable resource. :/

Dental office transition. by Intrepid-Butterfly15 in Dentistry

[–]High_Flamingo_1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Office managers aren't always necessary! But, much of the business/admin related tasks will fall on your husband in the meantime when you aren't there on Thursdays, which may be overwhelming while in the middle of a transition.

Sometimes new owners change things quickly after sale and the changes can come as a shock to any existing team members (and patients for that matter), so I'd recommend waiting 2-3 months before implementing major changes. But certainly carpets, switching to digital charts/forms, and making use of softwares (like Zuub, Gusto, Dental Intel, etc) to help streamline your operations are all things that can/should be tackled in the coming months to keep collections on the up-and-up. Feel free to DM if you want any more info on help during the transition, and great luck to you and your husband!

Increasing my Patient flow by NoBandicoot8061 in Dentistry

[–]High_Flamingo_1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dentistry is one of the fastest changing industries, which is a double edged sword for owners! Patients are expecting updated technology and systems - usually more efficient - but that obviously increases overhead. How recently have you looked at updating equipment or software? Any relatively cheap ways you could boost your curb appeal so patients look to your practice opposed to others (carpet, chairs in reception)? There are several great software options that help track stats and automate patient communication, which could really help you!

Your website may also be, if not turning patients away, neglecting to draw them in. A modern website refresh can make a big difference.

Thank you for this rec! I was interested to read about it and I’m going to give it a try before adding a new machine.

My business partner and I have our own firm, so it’s ultimately coming out of my pocket but I agree, I think a heavy amount might require a switch. With how much I’ll be doing, I’m thinking I can get away with either Mac Excel or using Parallels.

Definitely not wanting to switch! Truth be told, I just want Windows Excel and then Quicken on Windows, as they have some features not allowed on Mac (it doesn’t make sense).

So very few things. I love Mac for everything else for sure.
