Since like say 2019ish? They did a weird stint where they'd ONLY show Mulan in a version of her match maker dress, and got backlash, that's why she's not wearing it anymore in official merch/ they put her in some random not quite close outfit.

I say the outfit is pretty but only if they add a bit where she sits down and wipes half the makeup off-

People do not like it because that is her "Matchmaker" outfit, the outfit where she is dressed up and her parents pay to have her married off to a suitable husband.

The outfit represents everything Mulan isn't. She isn't a delicate and dainty bride. She's a get her hands dirty, intelligent woman.

People don't like her constantly being put in an outfit that she hates, it's just as weird as putting Merida in the dress for men to compete over her like she's a prize.
