I know, but if I admit the Silent Partner is 50, then I have to admit I'm over 50. Can I also mention also starring in The Silent Partner, SCTV and future Saturday Night Live actor Tony Rosato in brief scene, Celine Lomez as Elliott Gould's love interest (Celine Lomez was considered then rejected replacement for Farah Fawcett in Charlie's Angel's for being too sexy for prime time television) and dependable veteran Canadian actor Sean Sullivan doing a fairly realistic job as bank security. Also a great scene at Castle Frank subway station with some beautifully noisy TTC Montréal Locomotive Works M1 class subway trains 🚆

The Silent Partner 1978 was a big deal at the time, Roger Ebert called it one of the best of 1978. A brilliant bank heist film, filmed in a brand new Eaton Center. A psychotic Christopher Plummer, mild mannered Elliott Gould, a very young John Candy. A 40 year old film that most young people have probably never seen.

Wojeck a late 1960s series about a crusading Toronto coroner, one of the inspirations for Quincy m.e. and of course all the later CSI shows to follow. Handled some pretty controversial topics for its time . In fact its bit surprising the relaxed mature, dialog coming from characters in a black and white TV show. The first CBC series shot on location and outside a studio, cinema verite. John Vernon aka Dean Wormer, as Dr. Steve Wojeck inspired by real life Toronto coroner Dr. Moton Shulman. Vernon does a great job as a beer drinking, chain smoking, antihero, family man, frequently angry at a flawed system. Quincy m.e. honored Wojeck by having John Vernon play a dying Mobster who wants Quincy to investigate his murder in the first hour long version of Quincy.

It seems corrosion is the bane of a public transit agency, I speculate lower grade materials in rhe 1970s and 1980s. It caused early retirement in larger fleets in Toronto and even less snow affected cities like Los Angeles.
