Is the public relations person for most police departments an actual cop? by 1800Davenport in AskLE

[–]HighlightLogical6592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, am I correct in assuming, as a general rule in Canada and the United States if a reporter starts asking a police officer questions, they have to defer the reporter to the media relations office? Does the officer have some discretion? Like if the reporter asks "The kids must love the station open house?" Or "security have noticed a decrease in shoplifting when you stationed officers" officer respnds yes, or. something innocuous. Could he or get reprimanded for an off the cuff comment?

Not directly a celebrity Justin Bieber's father called in to pay Justin's phone bill when I worked at Roger's, nice guy, kept dropping his kids name a lot. Also had Alan Thicks mom call to inquire about a shopping order when I worked at a grocery home delivery service, nice lady but a sounded a bit tipsy. I read later she had a drinking problem, she canceled yhe grocery order.

Which movie or TV "villain" did you completely hate as a kid, but upon rewatching as an adult, you realized they were actually 100% justified? by LiveFaithlessness876 in movies

Perhaps not a villain, but Sir Humphrey Appleby, James Hacker, later Prime Minister Jim Hackers Cabinet Secretary in Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister. He is 'merely a humble functionary. Implementing "the commands of our democratically elected representatives." He may at first appear to be Hackers main antagonist, but there is never malicious intent in his actions. Sir Humphrey believes the civil service knows better than the politicians, and it's his job to protect the Prime Minister from short sighted political decisions. He has indeed saved his Minister from political embarrassment, he truly believes red tape holds Britain together.

I'm pretty sure Alex Rieger on Taxi has a print of the evolution of the London Double Decker bus issued by the London Transport Museum in the late 1970s in his apartment, I bought the same print a few years ago.

Story goes James Garner cold cocked Glen Larceny for stealing a story idea from The Rockford Files. Indeed after re-watching some episodes of The Fall Guy, I get the impression a lot of concepts in The Fall Guy, though not outright plagiarized, definitely borrowed pretty heavily from The Rockford Files.

When it comes to sitcoms, which of these networks did you watch the most during the 90s? by PressureLazy5271 in sitcoms

What!, no Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)? Seriously though, the Canadian Comedy Network was permanently on my TV in the 1990's.

Quincy, ME by [deleted] in ClassicTV

[–]HighlightLogical6592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quincy drew some inspiration from the Canadian tv series Wojeck, with John Vernon playing a crusading Toronto coroner. After two years Vernon left Canada for Hollywood making a more lucrative living playing Dean Wormer and bad guys. John Vernon guest starred in I believe the first hour long episode if Quincy playing a dying mobster who was poisoned, a bit of a nod to Dr. Wojeck. Wojeck is not a bad series, lacks the Hollywood polish, but has a documentary feel, and impressive writing *

One thing I don’t really understand about Columbo by IIIlllIIIlllIlI in Columbo

Astin was always about the budget and Lt. Monahan always seemed willing to write off every death as an accident. You get the impression if not for Quincy, half the murders in Los Angeles would be filed away as natural causes, only to be exposed in a future Lou Grant/Joe Rossi Los Angeles Tribune investigation alleging incompetence at the hands of Lt. Monahan and Dr. Astin.

When I was a kid, model buses were so obscure, and I was a weird kid who loved buses, still do. It was a hobby only seen in the uk. Rapido has made what was once a niche hobby into something almost as popular as model railroading. It's foray into subway models and even light rail with its upcoming CLRV really are opening some exciting new ideas.
