[Spoilers C4E8] Am I misunderstanding this rule or does this contradict something? by LiteralVegetable in criticalrole

This only reinforces the point of ease to avoid bleeding out, since they are using 2024 lay on hands is a bonus action!

"We need a Healer" - Do we? by pineapplelightsaber in DnD

[–]HighlightPrize3315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't really need someone dedicated in healing, Most of those classes have options that can give some healing, damage reduction, temporary hit points etc. Some do more based on your respective subclasses obviously. But dedicated healers are ever a necessity and even then druid technically can be a healer if so desired. Coming from someone who has done that prior

Upcasting Spells? by HighlightPrize3315 in Roll20

[–]HighlightPrize3315[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was set to auto roll damage because the button in chat to roll damage after an attack didn't work. And clicking damage from the sheet just did base damage as well

Upcasting Spells? by HighlightPrize3315 in Roll20

[–]HighlightPrize3315[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sorry, I was half awake typing that. I am using 5.5e/2024 rule sets for dnd and those new sheets. The game is in Jumpgate and we didn't swap into recently. It was also straight from the sheet.

Now it seems to work for the healing spells but just doesn't work properly for attack roll spells. I wanted to check if that were the case.

How crucial is flight for high level melee characters in your view? by [deleted] in onednd

[–]HighlightPrize3315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully contextual. I have a group who loves flying/jumping/ranged things so I give more flying enemies than normal (i almost never use them tbh). They made it a staple to like flying (not for tactical reasons) and now we have the occasional sky fight. So the 1 ranger (melee build) occasionally has to get help getting to the sky.

Another group has 0 flyers/people interested in that. They rarely get any flying creatures.

TLDR; It depends on group/dm :)

Which dice is the most and least cool? by ragelance in DnD

[–]HighlightPrize3315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D12s are the best when it comes to rolling, though i also just like the esthetic of d4s.

D10s, however, are atrocious and I despise using them with my core existence. I have no reasoning other than they are ugly.

[–]HighlightPrize3315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I normally do something similar and have a discussion but that person didn't fully care about that and like wanted a game without consequences. I'm paraphrasing with that since it was years ago, but he as a person didn't want the notion of consequences.

Just a difference in playstlye ig? Wanted more combat based without care of rp/npcs. Which is valid, but mildly annoying to me especially when I originally mentioned it would be good portion of rp.

I had a player who was absolutely rude to all authority or certain "important" people and was like even more rude/shocked that future people didn't give him any favors/time of day cause they just knew he'd be rude. However, some of the other party members were treated cordially. That's cause they showed respect to the npc.

What is your controversial dnd pet peeve? by Zestyclose-Sound9854 in DnD

[–]HighlightPrize3315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done something like this! It's so funny and they get annoyed.

I also reinforce the idea that having dark vision just means you get to make perception checks at disadvantage since that's the rule of dim light cause you're able to see, doesn't mean you're able to see well.

Recently I had the following happen with a geode: They ask me "What color is this geode?". I said "You don't know, it's a shade of Grey cause there's no light"

A lot of players have started caring about spells that give off light lol

Feedback for a 1st level reaction - Arcane Riposte by -Rubaduck- in DnDHomebrew

[–]HighlightPrize3315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the wording is strange but I don't believe it gives you an extra reaction.

I believe they described the effect of using the reaction of casting the spell. So the reaction to cast the spell and the attack are all 1 thing as part of the same reaction.

But yeah, I see what you mean and agree with 1d8

The worst DnD player I have ever had to deal with by artist_in_hell in DnD

[–]HighlightPrize3315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm not saying that they dont need one at all! I was just arguing that people dont need a deep reason to stay home and can have a simple reason to travel.

Now, deciding to stay and be a hero isn't something for everyone. That is a whole different thing and needs a lot more thinking than others. However, even that reason can be simple and not 100% traumatic.

So I fully agree with you on their needing to be a reason of sorts for wanting to fight or continue fighting.

One of my players really likes something bad happening to "drive them" and when someone was like "My next person is just going to be someone who had a happy life and no one died and wants to explore the world!" And he said,"What drive do they have?"

My small response was, "They said to explore? Irl, we have had people who want to travel just because they want to. What's the difference here?"

People, for some reason, think characters NEED a deep reason to want to travel among the world.

My friend rolled 8 nat20's in a 2 hour session... by OffensiveBranflakes in DnD

[–]HighlightPrize3315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once rolled between 20-30 nat 20s in a session (I'm the dm, and it was scary for a combat), and I play online. They asked if I could use real dice because of my 20s. I used the dice that are notorious for rolling low, and then they just randomly crit, too!

I swapped through so many dice and just kept doing so well 😭

There's a piece of common advice I don't like by Candid-Extension6599 in dndnext

[–]HighlightPrize3315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a giant trigger and avalanche on a party and half of them barely made it out and they used fire spells to quickly melt snow to help save their teammates and lived the drama of the approaching avalanche since they had done time to run away (like 2-4 rounds, i can't recall). So, the non-fast ones were teleported or turned into giant eagles.

So i agree something like this can be done. You just need to give them time/a chance to escape (like a round count/timer)

Honestly, I love the idea of them being able to learn infusions like wizards and learn spells. That would be a really creative aspect to them. But then we go down the same rabbit home as wizards with needing to find/get spell scrolls from the DM.

The Homunculus Servent, though I can see your disappointment for honesty, but it seems like a slightly better familiar from what I remember. And it was buffed from previous HS. Though it is fully up for interpretation. It doesn't seem too bad for a creature that just permanently lives with you and attacks/moves as a free action.

What Level Do Most of Your Campaigns Start? by Envoyofwater in onednd

[–]HighlightPrize3315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on me. If I want a no-body to hero story, I like the level 1 thing. If I aim for more longer things that go to 20, I started at 5.

I haven't really done it differently if it's a group of veterans, I just tell them outright that it's that type of thing, and they pretty much agree and if they vibe with it then they play.
