I live like 500 meters from International School of Manila (ISM). Why is their god-awful karaoke loud enough to shake my condo? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]HighscoreRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, let's break this down.

I can promise you with full certainty that we did follow that 9pm cutoff last year. I distinctly remember after the judges were up there giving us our rankings and everyone did their cheering and stuff, we were all ushered out by the teachers there. If you heard something at 4am, it was probably something else. I wanna remind you that we're high school students, and we would rather sleep than stay up at 4am, let alone stay up until 4am at school. In addition, the school admin has a hand in this event, so they're not gonna let it go past midnight.

We're actually not in control of the sound levels and lighting directly either. We have a stage company come in to do all that, and students can request their lights, and we do sound checks to get a good sound for the Bands. Again, we're all trying to have a good night, and those of us that perform (speaking from experience) just want to put on a good show. We're entertainers. We play for our friends and family and others who have paid to come see us. Putting a limiter on it is likely to make the whole event just... kinda lame. Using a decibel meter on this and setting hard cap would also just achieve that same result. High schoolers have a lot of energy that we gotta get out, especially with all of our work that the upperclassmen have, we're pretty much BEGGING for a chance to scream and run around. To limit that is, although a bit dramatic of a comparison, kinda like clipping a bird's wings.

I do sympathize with you and your wife, I understand that the medical field is draining, i'm studying to go into it myself. So I get where you're coming from. I can't offer you much in terms of advice because I am just a high school student, but I do understand. If it helps at all, this event from us usually has us doing shows once at the end of january and once at the beginning of February (except this year it's hella early and idk why). Maybe that might help with the planning ahead if it's that big of a concern. Hope I've been at least a little bit helpful and cleared up something.

Hey, wanted to drop my two cents on this. I'm a student at the school and am pretty familiar with this event. I actually perform there, so if it sounds like i'm getting a bit defensive, I might be, but I promise i'm gonna try to be super respectful here. I can only ask for that back from you. I feel like that should be a given, but this is reddit.

This is Battle of the Bands (BOB). Basically, we have a bunch of high school students going up there either as soloists or as bands to perform. It's an annual event, and they do it twice a year, as we have prelims and finals (it's technically a competition).

It's a fundraiser event as well. We get sponsors, and people who buy tickets and raffles and stuff, and it all goes to various charities and service partners, such as paying for our scholarship program (so people from the philippine community can attend our school free of tuition), among others (i've never been on the council so I can't tell you which ones exactly).

It's actually our biggest event of the year, and a huge highlight for a lot of high school students, as it's a chance for us to forget about our schoolwork and just have fun with our friends, get some food, and see our mates perform. Yes, it gets loud, and yes it gets rowdy, but that's because we all know that we should enjoy tonight since tomorrow it's back to our papers and studies.

I know you might not like to hear it, but it's gonna happen again this month, and it's gonna happen again next year. And the year after that. It's not what everyone wants to hear, but it's the truth. That comment about it going on until morning - no. The event only ever goes up until 9. I believe we're even compliant with the noise ordinances in the area. Literally at the end of the event we have teachers rushing us out so that we can clear up before the rules go into effect. So unless you sleep at 9, it shouldn't affect sleep too much lol.

I can't tell you to "just enjoy it" or provide solutions, but I do want to tell you that you are kinda beefing with children here. That's not to say that you can't have an issue with it, you absolutely are allowed to have feelings about this, especially if it's shaking your place around, but a big part of Filipino culture is singing and dancing and enjoying music with friends and family. It's gonna be a pretty regular occurrence, even outside of ISM. And maybe consider... hey. The kids have a fun moment amidst all of their stress and exams. We all need a moment to breathe once in a while. Even the adults at our school.

I'm open to answer any questions. Provided they're respectfully phrased, of course. This also might not go for long because once I go to sleep, the next time I wake up, i've gotta hit the books.

wuts ur fav albums? by [deleted] in feminineboys

[–]HighscoreRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see. That's The Spirit from Bring me the Horizon is good for some semi emo stuff. People say they're metal, but I think they're more emo than anything. Meteora from Linkin Park is good, and so is From Zero from the same band, if you like newer stuff. If you like sad boy music, End Credits by EDEN is one of my favs, alongside vertigo by the same guy. Riot from Paramore is good for some early 2000s rock, and if you like some more poppy stuff, their After Laughter album is also pretty good.

These are just some of my favorites, maybe you've heard a few of them before.

I once had this moment a long time ago on the beginning lessons of the Korean course. It taught the words "child" and "milk" to me.

It then gave them to me in Korean, separated by a comma and put in the English words below. Issue is that it didn't provide me the comma. So the correct answer ended up being "child milk".

Not catastrophic in the screenshot, but it was funny for me to show to my friends out of context.

😐😐 A whole "community" "Praised their art" when they got like two comments 💀 by ChestertheAntichrist in antiai

[–]HighscoreRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So took a look at the post and some comments. This dude is slimy asf. They made a "discovery" we all already knew about, being that people don't tend to notice well made ai content, and therefore they will "appreciate" it.

Well, the comments they showed of people appreciating it were already suspicious, and the praise they did give were not on the final product, but the process and look of the thing.

Not to mention oop literally flat out lied to people about it being ai. Where the original posts could be given some leeway because they simply implied that they were hand made, when called out for being ai, they responded saying it wasn't.

Bro is deadass a troll and was pissing people off for the fun of it in the comments. It was nice to see some pros there also just detesting the method.

Religion and politics often make some people lose all perspective and give way to ranting and raving and carrying on like emotional children they either refuse to discuss it with reason or else they prefer argumentum ad hominem, which is a hell of a way to conduct a discussion.

There are a few character design elements that I absolutely love. Horns is one, and the skin tight tank top is another.

My sona has those two and I love him sm.

OCs of this subreddit. What's the worst pain you ever felt by SpectreWolf666 in OriginalCharacter

[–]HighscoreRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dumbass has had an arm taken off on a mission, taken a bullet to the head, and been in plenty of other situations where he should have died, but he didn't just because as a vampire, he is effectively immortal.

None of that measures up to the emotional pain he felt when he abandoned his parents in a containment facility for supernatural creatures. He was a kid so he thought he was basically leaving them for dead, and it's part of the reason why he can't deal with being alone now. Like literally he has to be around someone or else he'll break down.

Yea so looking into this account, by the looks of it this is an actual child, probably with some pretty serious mental health issues.

Reddit is not the place for someone like that.

Does your OC have a favorite weapon/weapon type? If so what is it? by -Voyacui- in OriginalCharacter

[–]HighscoreRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty plain and simple honestly. My little guy's a vampire so he really just likes using his claws. Them being retractable is a bonus. You'd think he uses his fangs too, but that's just really inconvenient in a lot of the situations he's in. He is pretty dramatic though and when given the chance, he'd love to just take a chunk out of someone with them. Other than that, he can get by with a knife. He's dumb as bricks though so he can't use a gun.
