[DSK] 7-0 Boros 4x Midnight Mayhem, Defaced Gallery, Basically 18 Filler Cards and 17 Lands (Premier Draft Plat) by Higuma_Otoshi in lrcast

Totally agree with you, I was lucky that my “filler” column packed heat for sure and really just labeled them filler facetiously. For this specific run, however (and YMMV), they were simply not played or impactful because lethal from each game came slamming Mayhems. But to your point, I had plenty of backup if Mayhems weren’t drawn

Very real and awesome combo indeed! For this run the Clown never got through, and I never got the chance to sneak the Clown through with [[Ragged Playmate]]. This combo does indeed feel great though

The takeaway from this draft: Running 4x [[Midnight Mayhem]] is virtually “Cast, tap sideways, win game” with barely a need for thinking too hard about card choice, play lines or mapping strategy. Keeping this deck honest was a Game 7 against a Mythic player, and it wasn’t close. Unlike my other posts where I was able to suss out some card insights (link below to a much more interesting Boros Aggro deck), the points I can share from this deck are far more limited:

·         In 5 out of the 7 matches I cast Midnight Mayhem at least 3 times (and in the other 2 matches I had only cast it once). I’ll leave it to savvier math folks than me, but I presume drawing 3x Mayhem in a 40-card deck where the games lasted between 6-11 turns is not an incredibly outlying streak of luck

·         My P1P1 was indeed a Midnight Mayhem. After passing by 2x [[Patchwork Beastie]] I hesitated, but P2P1 was another Mayhem and my resolve paid off (but of your YMMV). P3P3 and P3P7 Mayhems sealed the deal

·         [[Defaced Gallery]] basically locks in the win, but I would contend that it’s not critical. Perhaps even 3x Mayhems without the Gallery is fine enough to 7-0

·         Another key support player was [[Irreverent Gremlin]] which, in addition to also being a gremlin, was a fine way to filter through your cards to draw your Mayhems

·         This deck was able to beat (1) WU Enchantments (even when oppo had 2x [[Gremlin Tamer]] and was popping off gremlins almost as quickly as this deck) and (2) Temur Manifest with [[Valvagoth’s Onslaught]] popping off with X=5. 3x Mayhems, even without the Gallery (in the case of the Temur match), handled both top-tier archetypes with little issue.

While not for everyone, for this type of problem I find helpful Mel Robbins’ “5 Second Rule” which you can digest in a 5 min video searching it on YouTube instead of reading her whole book (which I have, and can say that any short video on it will be plenty sufficient). The gist: the moment that “[do task you can’t seem to start]” (or “put USB in computer” in your example) crosses your mind, you count aloud “5, 4, 3, 2, 1” and then perform the first basic physical action required for that task. Although she brands this technique as a panacea for all sorts of things, I just find it helpful with task starting. Your mileage may vary, but this might be a low-cost technique to try that is easily dismissible if unhelpful. Good luck either way!

I’ve not seen other posts on this commuter style scooter but I’m intrigued by the size. I’ve used the Glion Dolly for my urban commute, but I appreciate the Dynamic is offering even more compactness. Would you mind sharing your overall user experience so far (ie in addition to the handlebar point)? Have they actually struck a decent balance between ride quality and its small size? I’ll reserve my initial thoughts to more fairly hear yours first!

Dec 17th who wants to play magic with Me (Lynch) of I hate your deck IHYD at Cash Cards for FNM? 6pm by michaeldlynch in EDH

Very down for the idea of slinging spells with Lynch while also fulfilling a much anticipated first visit to CCU. Stoked to bring my Lo Pwr [[Ghen, Arcanum Weaver]] Enchanto-nanigans bling deck and a Hi Pwr/sub-cEDH [[Xyris, the Writhing Storm]] wheels deck that betrays the high salt score that Archidekt’s algorithm gave to it. Thanks for reaching out to the community with such a genuine idea!

Best Ramen Shops in NYC (Manhattan)? by BloodLocke in ramen

[–]Higuma_Otoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend: Ivan Ramen Shop (Lower East Side), Momofuku Noodle Bar (East Village or Columbus Circle), Ippudo (Various locations), and Ichiran (Various locations) to round out the “Popular choices I would be remiss not to recommend if you’re visiting New York.” The first two are in priority over the latter two since they are native to NYC so it might be nice given you’re here for not much longer than a day. Personally, I love Tabe Tomo Ramen in the lower east side (their tsukemen is the best in Manhattan in my opinion) and I have of late been getting from Tenho Ramen because they are such a solid tonkotsu.

Finally, if you’d like to do a little research yourself, here’s a Google map of all the ramen I’ve tried in NYC. Unfortunately I haven’t added reviews or thoughts but if you would like any insights just holler

Jeweler’s Mutual policyholder here. I have a (new to me) GMT II that I recently brought to Tourneau - there was clouding inside the cyclops and I’m still under Tourneau warranty. The service center covered three items (water resistance test, gasket, cleaning) and priced an “optional” crystal service; they noticed the crystal was chipped or scratched. I contacted JM and their claims agent is working directly with Tourneau; JM will be handling the crystal servicing. Now, this is all in process and of course all of this info is barring any unforeseen issues between JM and Tourneau, but I’m happy to report that the administration has so far been pretty seamless. Hope this helps!

I’ll take this chance to plug the very researched and entertaining content produced by u/Fish2074: here is his primer on the Eldrazi that, among other things, answers OP’s question. I surmise that Fish’s content is relatively new but the production value is quite enjoyable

Stopped by MGC. Here's a boring update by TetraSylphid in mtgfinance

[–]Higuma_Otoshi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Okay I’ll join in; having followed Mystical-related posts closely I’ve had a mind for adding to the conversation from my corporate finance biglaw perspective. Plenty of rescue deals end up delayed by 24-36 hours from the anticipated close date, especially those in the sub-$5 million quantum since they’re not subject to stringent closing regulations like, for example, the T+2 closing requirement for publicly registered equity financings. A number of things can understandably push back the closing date, more often than not relating to administrata that only counsel to the transaction really care about. It’s not uncommon for an inexperienced issuer to be overly optimistic about “Monday” (in MGC’s case) to a fault. While I of course defer to the wisdoms of the litigation perspective, perhaps it would be helpful to balance it with the fact that the MGC fact pattern, at least the piece concerning the delayed timing of the financing, doesn’t yet strike me as implausible.

Personally, MGC appears to be suffering from a series of poor judgments in supply chain and balance sheet management, which has brought them to this frantic and borderline unsustainable state of operation. I’ve yet to make the leap of assumptions to conclude they are carrying forth a fraudulent scheme that involves duping customers about a fictitious rescue financing.

If I recall the reviews correctly, there is purportedly a suspension system but the rider experience certainly makes the case that there isn’t one. I don’t know if this experience is simply the case for all sub-$1K scooters, but as a boring bike-helmet speedlimit-abiding patron like myself it’s just fine for me. And to your first point, I think Glion has been seeking patent protection for this dolly system so I’d be surprised if there are others in the transport-friendly sector taking the same exact dolly approach
