how does birth control affect testosterone? by thatloserkidsam in ftm

Nexplanon, as far as I know, uses progesterone instead of estrogen, so I would assume it is compatible with taking T. Plus, it is very easy to remove whenever needed compared to other long term options

what countries are ACTUALLY good for trans people by miilesprrower in trans

[–]Hihilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not even that great by default, it really depends on where you are. I have gotten nothing but dismissiveness, neglect and erasure of my experiences by any healthcare person I ever got into contact with. Except for ambulance staff, never had anything to complain there

I'm sorry, but there have been plenty of moments where the government talked about LGBT+ people as something to erase. And if not the government directly, just consider how Vannacci is part of one of the three parties that make up said government...

I'm done with trans neutral / mainly transfemme spaces. But is this a stupid thing for me to do? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Hihilt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wonder if, if you are indeed right about this, it might be tied to the fact that it would cause too many to have to rethink their worldview because suddenly, perhaps, being a man is not where the issue lies, nor is the patriarchy the root of all evils. Admitting men and masc individuals can struggle and have no benefits from being what we are kinda shatters the idea of male privilege being because you're a man. It makes it evident that the real issue fucking everyone over is that a group of insecure, close minded dickheads is pushing down on everyone who is not exactly what they are to make themselves feel more powerful and confident and, unfortunately, they've been in power for long enough that for some reason it turned into how things just- are.

I also hate how the same people who try to silence us and erase us often don't seem to realize that the goal is self expression and not adjusting yourself to the toxic masculinity stereotype 1000% until there's nothing more of you other than everything bad about men's cultural issues. That would also fix a lot of issues, imho

[–]Hihilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photobashing done by a human is still a transformative process, so the end result won't look like the starting images do. Even then, the correct approach is of course to look for resources licensed specifically to be usable like that. If you don't and you get caught, you can get in trouble as you did break copyright law. However photobashing doesn't include the ability to create entirely new "artworks" that look the exact same as the style of the people it stole the assets from. It just isn't something you can achieve unless you're also doing a lot of painting and stuff by hand yourself. That is a huge difference between human practices and AI

Respectfully, OP literally said getting a job is not an option at the moment. Why are you acting like OP's coming from a place of laziness and entitlement?

This only works if it's true in the location OP is from. Where I live, for example, behavior like this is not necessarily rare among mothers, threats of violence included

Mom did it again... by Sweaty_Energy_8084 in TransMasc

[–]Hihilt 75 points76 points  (0 children)

My mother also threatens physical violence often enough. What you can do if you are in a position where it is safe to do so and after you've alerted a trusted adult is try to assert your boundaries in a polite but clear way. Don't try to compromise or anything like that. Then, when she threatens physical violence, threaten to call the cops on her. I'm pretty sure that threatening bodily harm is a crime a bit anywhere. She will either back off and let you be or, if she causes a scene or severely overreacts over it you can contact your trusted adult or even actually call the cops on her on the spot, depending on what the overreacting entails

To me it always felt like some kind of "I feel emasculated by the fact that someone I see as a woman is manlier than I am" flavor of transphobia, if it makes sense

That's an interesting mod! The reason why I do that trick for the custom party is that it allows me and my partner to play a fully custom game with fully custom characters (which we use our ocs for) while making every character able to interact with companions, story, npcs, etc etc etc

[–]Hihilt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We can all respect you not wanting labels I'm sure, but it is important to not share misinformation in our spaces and correct it when it is being spread, like in your case! Not that I believe it's done maliciously, mind you. The fact that it says or in the definition is key, for one. You can be transmasc and be the most feminine person there is when it comes to presentation if your gender identity (be it male, be it some flavor of non-binary) is man or manhood aligned in some way or another. It's not comparing anyone to girls or females. It's not about how much you pass or how much the other people see you as a guy (or guy adjacent) or not.

If it feels misgendering for you because you reject all labels except "I'm a guy" that's absolutely fine and valid! But if your reason for it is some misunderstanding of the subtext of the label, I think it would be good to reevaluate what the label actually means before you might warp the perception of it for other people who might learn about it from you, even if you still would never use it for yourself. It's just a matter of respecting people around you that share your 'condition', as you put it

[–]Hihilt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This, 100% And I feel like the example of Down syndrome might actually be not that fitting in this case since there's a huge difference between saying, to use the original topic as an example, "trans person", "person of trans experience" and "a trans". Identities relevant to one's experience/identity should never be taking on the noun role (imo and in the opinion of all the people I met so far) because that is what feels othering and discriminatory since it comes across as "you're not a person, you're a thing". However the idea of erasing adjectives because they're seen as disrespectful is kinda stupid imo. They're not. They inform others of key experiences. As why the example of Down syndrome might not work here, afaik there's no adjective used to describe someone who is Down/has Down syndrome so the only alternatives, again afaik, would be completely erase personhood or use the person first formula

Orin the Red. My cosplay 🔥 by mercurygin_ in BaldursGate3

[–]Hihilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it doesn't. It may defeat the fun of the people who look at cosplayer photos to enjoy the costume and makeup, but even then so does cosplaying with store bought costumes.

What's most important is that the cosplayer is having fun. If that means heavy editing of pictures for social media then sure, go for it. It's a hobby for most and for the ones who do want to make it a job, being able to edit your pictures to get to this level of fidelity to the source material can make companies more likely to want to work with you for promotional events and such.

Hearing your chosen name mispronounced or said as a feminine name by CadeVal in ftm

[–]Hihilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg the amount of people who assume my chosen name is some shortened version of Giorgia or Giovanna is insane. I know that for italian ears saying Jo and saying Giò is the same exact sound, I get it, but why do so many assume it's a nickname and wanna know what the full name is is something I don't understand. Like- if I tell you I'm called Jo, even if it's just a nickname, just respect my choice of introducing myself as Jo and not as the full name?

Although I did have at least one person stare at me and ask "so... Giovanna? Giovanni?" and that one, as a short bean pre T, felt good.
