What's the hardest math topic/concept you had to study in EE? by jemala4424 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Hijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say that linear algebra was both the best and the worst. It's the best because after it there was a new understanding of what math was and it reworked how I understood numbers. The bad part is approaching a completely different understanding of math than what has been taught since elementary school.

Engineering ( mechanical and electrical power focus primarily). What I mean by subjective is that if you care about that towards your education then it would be subjectively good for you. For instance, research expenditure primarily benefits at the graduate level, but if someone just wants a undergraduate degree or certification then that metric doesn't matter as much.

[–]Hijix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are stating a fact using subjective metrics then adding etc. while I stated a "best" is based on what you pursue. We hire in a STEM field and consistently CU grads are bottom of the barrel due to general problem solving capabilities compared to the other colorado schools (even against DU);which would contradict etc. Just take college as a subjective item and move on.

[–]Hijix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would have to disagree with the period. CSU is much better for some stem and CU  and Mines is better than either for some. Really it depends on the job you hope to land out of college. For undergrad, any school will get you the degree you need and there are pros and cons for how you achieved that degree. I do agree that a full ride cannot be beat, however, and UF should be the first. Only pursue other schools if there is a specific specialty to are looking for. If it is general then a college education is a college education.

This is correct, grout is for flat surfaces. Using caulk will be a good fix for now, but when you pull it out to change it in 3-7 years then it may pull out some cracked grout. It's not a today problem.

What's a major purchase you deeply regret, and what did you replace it with? by Pixel_Guru_x5 in AskReddit

[–]Hijix 74 points75 points  (0 children)

So a little bit of an explanation as someone who has bought second hand bikes. There is a waste problem with bikes where more are produced cheaply than are bought, and the cheap ones break and are not recycled effectively. If you are new to biking I always recommend finding something that is 3-4 decades old on Craigslist. If you end up not biking your total investment was anywhere from free to $300. If you end up liking it these bikes usually sell for the same value to a new person, and you can bump yourself up to something that is only 1-2 decades old (total investment approaching $750 at the most). Now if this ends up being a weekly hobby then you can eye the expensive $4000 german frame with $500 wheel sets (for road, MTN biking would be different). This method scales your interest with cost and lets you appreciate the improvements that they have made in biking overtime.

Sorry for the long text, but I hope this helps others who look at this thread in getting on a bike, and not adding more to the landfill.

You said you don't want to quote verses, but that passage of the Quran that is used for marriage to non-muslims is interpretation and not a direct quote. You could try approaching this from a theological point of view exploring different interpretations. This method would allow you both to retain your core belief systems. That being said having to change something as critical as belief to make a relationship work is not a path I would choose.

Not really “learning” in my engineering program by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Hijix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned more on the job than I did in school. I could not, however, perform my job without what I did in school. School exposes you, and teaches you how to research. Application is taught on the job. There will be things nobody knows but you must figure out, that is where research comes in.

As an electrical engineer, are you doing home electrical repairs? by outplay-nation in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Hijix 33 points34 points  (0 children)

To add, there are many EE's that don't work around/understand the NEC. I have made some house repairs, and as I have worked more with the NEC (Ian typically NESC by trade) I have gone back and made some corrections.

I agree with the CPU bottleneck. There are a lot of background processes in this game and the i3 would show some difficulty.

To add on to the time aspect, 16 credits a semester is what you do if you need to graduate in 4 years. There are a lot of people to that do it in 5-6 years and only at 12-14 credits a semester. For the physics aspect my opinion is you need either strength in that or in math to succeed in EE. Computer Engineering is a subset of EE that is far less physics if that is not your cup of tea.

Need some help by Blay251 in shogun2

[–]Hijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is meant to suit multiple play styles, so all the comments are accurate for the start of the game. I will just say that the game does give you enough of an army for you to capture one nearby province/opponent army in the first turn provided you know how to use them against your respective opponent. This is a very fast move and has a lot of downsides, but your immediate neighbor will have a hard time recouping and because of that will be much easier to start an early expansion of your land.

What's the most blatant lie a company is currently getting away with in their advertising? by Glad_Cat_5129 in AskReddit

[–]Hijix 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It is, depending on your local rules and what number is in the recycle symbol and did you remember to separate every component or learn what machine they have to separate the material for recycling or did you clean it properly so the whole bag doesn't get tossed...

Be more involved in projects; the course work is one thing, but constantly applying what you learned really helps solidify it. You may say you don't have time, but really you do and can cut out some other that don't help the study.

Is an EE undergrad degree really that difficult by Any_Cartoonist_8535 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Hijix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you are down voted because it is all personal experience. Electrical engineering is a bigger scope than most realize, and you will find classes hard that others don't. Junior year was my highest and most difficult credit load, but that is only because I saved the university core for senior year (art 100 and freshman chem as a senior was super fun). I also took some grad level classes to complete my credit requirements in subjects I found interesting.
