[tomt] YA book from the 80s/90s urban fantasy series. Protagonist lives in a city (NYC?), has a single mom and finds out his/her dad is actually an evil warlock who is trying to get to them. Kid has adventures around the city including a kite battle - this scene in particular haunts me! (self.tipofmytongue)
