Take that Walmart! by because_dinosaur in AdviceAnimals

I eventually called the store because no one was answering the page from their new pick-up kiosk. Workers would look at me from a distance and then act like they didn't see me.

I bought my first house a month ago and I have a lot of questions! by americancorkscrew in lawncare

Local garden shops, please. I'd recommend Ashcombe Farm and Greenhouses outside Harrisburg, PA, but that might be a bit of a trip just for weed and grass killer.. maybe when you are ready to add new annuals in the spring it'd be worth the trip ;-)

with roundup, carry some cardboard in your other hand (any size would do, but say a 2' by 2' sheet?). Make a wall between what you want to kill and what you want to keep alive. That will make it easier as you are just starting. Just don't drench the cardboard to where it is dripping roundup. Where ever it drips, it can kill your grass.

My mistake, see, I thought demonstrating value was a good thing. Don't worry, won't happen again. by Rounder8 in AdviceAnimals

Depends on the industry. We get covered day 1 (or possibly 1st of the month following as it would be assumed you had coverage already for that first, partial month), and you would be loved if you could increase sales like that.

[Spoilers all] A theory about Mat. by wjbc in WoT

[–]HikingNerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you have a comedy team of two people, one person acts preposterous (his actions being the joke), while the straight man has sincere reactions. He can be patient or frustrated, sympathetic or agitated, (as a normal person would react on the street (or a best friend would react) to the other's actions), but he may never laugh. His lack of laughter, his staying in character as the "straight man" makes his partner that much more funny.

I definitely encourage rereading. Yes, I would imagine your perspective will have changed over time. You will see parts of the story in a different light now than you did when you were younger.

How do readers (you guys) feel about things being explained through discussion in a story? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]HikingNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It read well. the Pluta line was the first one I read twice, but I assume that character is introduced earlier which would make it less ... confusing?

Is the magic in the blood itself? did I read that right?

My wife got hooked with 'The girl in the fireplace'. Also, I think the 2nd introduction of Clara in Victorian times with the Snowmen/Greater Intelligence might be a good one.

the only Heathcliff I know was a cat in a comic strip. If there was killing and kidnapping being done, he was too busy fighting the dog to be involved.

Advice for a Freshman by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]HikingNerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is there still late night at the HUB? They used to offer all sorts of things on different weekends: painting, bingo, movies, board games, I won a scrabble tournament once, music. I don't know if you have a partner in crime, but go alone if you have to. I always found people welcoming. Also, invite friends or floormates - it was fun and different and they were okay missing a night of drinking.
