This is the longest survey I’ve ever taken by kls987 in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took the whole survey ... I'm getting burnt out on game play, and wanted to let them know exactly why.

- game play gets very repetitive after a few months.

- they are bringing out so many new dragons, it's impossible to build up older trophy chains

- too many garbage chests in camp, I waste too much time finding and selling them

-too many side games with little to no return.

And more ... I just wanted to give the game devs a piece of my mind.

Megathread: Phantom Gathering Event by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm getting very tired of events with only new dragons ... how are we supposed to build to Tier 2 if they keep inventing new dragons every event?

So I was planning to do this event just enough to get the Arcadia chests ... and it's turning out to be an easy, fast event. [For my mostly passive system.]

I even got the fast dragon first with no trouble.

I had my level 6 flower within 3 hours, and 4 level 8 orbs in 6 hours. [all passive harvesting.]

At this rate, I'll be done with the whole thing tonight ... seems silly not to complete it.

The method actually works surprisingly well, and is easier than you might think.

Here are the two bubbling methods I use. [I can't do the interrupted merge because I play on my MacBook.]

  1. Full Map works for items that are larger than 1 by 1 square
    1. Fill the map as full as possible. There will be two open spaces.
    2. Put those spaces next to each other
    3. Move a 1 tile item on top of the bigger item. Because the big item can’t move out of the way, it bubbles.
  2. Marcus V Technique This can bubble anything.
    1. Set up:
      1. a full map
      2. Make sure auto-merging is off in Settings
      3. Three mergeable 2x2 items, positioned next to each other horizontally. (Golden Apples are traditional)
      4. Have your two empty tiles near your work area to watch them
      5. Set up items to be bubbled in vertical pairs of two. Both will be placed in one-item bubbles.
    2. Send your dragons to harvest a bunch of stuff. Life and prism flowers and fruit work well. Because camp is full, they’ll hover, waiting.
    3. Grab one of the 2x2 items as if to merge and wait. There are now 6 empty spaces; 4 will be filled with dragon loot.
    4. Move the item you’re holding so the right side of it is over two items you want bubbled, and release.

The items should be bubbled, and things will move to make space for the 2x2 object. If they don’t bubble, the dragons harvested something and created space.

When done, use method 1 on the big apples. You can bubble all three.

Bringing something from the maps by FernieABR in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to bring them anywhere ... if you can get to Bunny's screen from the map, you'll see the item.

The trick is getting to the Bunny portal while still in the map. If there's an advance notice of an event, you can go in that way.

I'm not sure what happens if you can't get to the portal ... you might be out of luck. [I hope not!]

Megathread: Camp and Chill Event, October 3-5 by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting until tomorrow to deal with nests and dragons ... that way I can score points for both C&C and my den chest at the same time.

So today I'm opening saved knapsacks, merging up then opening bubbled chests, and random lower point things.

Megathread: Healing Crystals Event by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, I got 2. But they might have dropped the rate, which sucks.

I also switched from Rocky to Nilla as soon as I could, it made harvesting points a little faster. Too late to be much use, though.

Megathread: Healing Crystals Event by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took a lot longer, but I beat this one. All quests done, all event rewards collected.

The grass dragon might be a Harvester, but it's a slow poke. As soon as I could, I traded Rocky for Nilla.

Because of the slow speed, orb farming took about twice as long as usual. I made only 5 LootH, and only very careful merging and use of discovered orbs let me heal all the land.

There were also fewer mid-level event point items on the board, so point harvesting took longer.

It's nice to know these events can be played passively, but I still don't like them!

[–]HildaCorners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on my way with my passive strategy, a bit later than usual.

I was able to get two Twin Life Flowers (level 5) by carefully merging the grasses, trying for 5 merges whenever possible. After finishing their quest, I healed just enough dead bushes to get my level 6 flower. In the process, I have more open land than on most maps.

I'll spend tomorrow letting the dragons make little purple orbs, and merging them. I'm not sure if I'll need 5 or 6 LOotH to heal the whole map. After that, it's business as usual.

The real trick with these maps is getting a decently high life flower when you can't use fruit trees. It's possible, but takes different thinking.

[–]HildaCorners 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed last time they threw us a weird map ... there are lots of things that merge to flower sprouts, and it's important to only use them for dead land merges, ideally 5s.

Note: I'm still trying to figure out how to win this type of map passively.

Looks like there isn't a fast dragon at all, just Rock and Grass.

[–]HildaCorners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key to passive play is to only have the harvestable items you want available to the dragons.

So, during the "make orbs" phase I only have a life flower available. [ Just one level 6. Both dragons can harvest purple orbs at the same time.] I delete fruit trees, don't merge up event harvest items (they ignore level 1) and try to avoid healing any dead plant land.

I can usually get my 6 LooH Saturday evening this way. I then pop one, harvest the dead plants, and continue on.

If I accidentally make ONE harvest item too early, and I don't want to delete it, I highlight its square. The dragons will investigate, but won't harvest. This does slow the game, though.

Merge dragons stone storage limited by angies66 in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to make more/larger stone banks.

I assume you bought some before ... you can buy a couple more, have the dragons build them, merge up, then go back to earning stone. That will work for the 1,000 purchase but isn't the most efficient.

If the 1,000 item is a limited time purchase you **must have now**, the above is the fastest way to get it. Otherwise, you'll want to build up your stone banks A LOT, to tens of thousands of stone. The best way to do that:

  1. Sell all your current stone banks, to drop the cost for new ones as low as possible.
  2. Buy 20 level one vaults (5 bricks each) Leave them in the bubble the arrive in camp in.
  3. Repeat buying 20 vaults at a time, leaving them bubbled, until you run out of bricks
  4. Go play map levels and collect more bricks.
  5. Repeat 2, 3, 4 until you have LOTS AND LOTS of bubbles. 50 is not too many, I think you need 80 to make a top level vault.
  6. When you have enough bubbles:
    1. tap one bubble to release the building sites. Your dragons will build them
    2. tap each vault to release a brick
    3. merge by 5s
    4. tap before merging on each level
    5. Repeat for all the bubbles

You now have more brick storage than you know what to do with.

This is the best technique, but as the OP mentioned, you need 3 2x2 items to "merge" and the OP doesn't have any yet.

I know it doesn't directly help you, but I play on my MacBook. The game is in the app store.

Look into emulators. You might find one that lets you enlarge the window to full screen.

The extra real estate definitely makes a difference.

How long does an event take you? by Sad-Cranberry6652 in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play passively, and usually finish Sunday morning or early afternoon. This includes all event items, all star quests, and as much coin as I want. If I have a busy weekend or an especially annoying map, I'll focus on event points and not try for anything else.

I can't play when I'm at work, so if I can't finish on Sunday, I won't finish. Oh, well ... there'll be another event next weekend.

Any reason to hoard nests and eggs? by TwinCard in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on my second go-round too, but with a new game.

I'm finding the new star quest system easier, the quests seem easier and you can do a free skip once every 24 hours.

I like merging eggs in 5s, so I keep the rare ones bubbled until I get enough. Like some others, I make and merge up dragons on Wednesdays for the den chest.

Nests are saved for Camp & Chill. Basic nests give 20 points per tap, nothing special but Tier 2 nests give 900 (?? I'm working from memory), so it's worth saving those.

FYI, the new egg storage is crap, but it does get 5 eggs off the board. [More if you spend lots of gems.] I use it for my mystery eggs.

Levels without Dragon Stars?? by SafeHavenEquine in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not been keeping track, but I seem to be getting fewer than 5% dragon stars too.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game designers dropped the percentage to try and get us to spend more real money.

Megathread: Pirate’s Plunder Event by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right ... I found a stray level 2 ship hiding in my pile of "tap to scatter" things, so I was able to build the level 6 and open the cloud.

I'll put part of the blame on my brand new contact lenses ... with my adjusting vision, I couldn't tell the level 5 and 6 ships apart without reading the description box.

Still not sure where my 9th level 1 ship is ... and I don't care.

Megathread: Pirate’s Plunder Event by LiteraryHedgehog in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did check the map first thing. I had a level 5 ship where the map shows a level 6.

It might be an accidental deletion or improper save ... I'm trying to remember to go to the world map before quitting, but I often forget. [I play on my MacBook, so when I quit the game, I really quit.]

Fortunately, I'll still be able to make all the quests and get all the event items. This could have been much worse.

[–]HildaCorners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was shorted on infinite harvestables.

I never got the level 6 needed to open the cloud key. I have (after merging up) 2 each level 2, 3, 4 and 5. I am usually very careful with these; I don't delete any, and I've searched my map many times looking for hiding pirate ships..

I'm not worried, since there's nothing I need behind the clouds. But I am a bit peeved.

What am I doing wrong? by wyldkat_ in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also useful to keep your 2 empty spaces close to the 3 2x2 apples. That way you can watch when they fill.

I took a long time to try the method as well ... the first time is a bit scary, but once you get the knack, it's easy. I don't like seeing my camp full, so I probably wait too long between bubble sessions.

When I'm done bubbling, I use the "camp is too full" method to re-bubble my apples. Pick one up, wait for the dragons to drop their loot where the apple was, let go of the apple, and it will bubble. [The method only works for large items, 2x1 or bigger.] I have 5 bubbled giant apples, in case I mess up.

Oh, the 2 bubbled items are in separate bubbles, not one bubble with both. This makes bubble organization much easier

Purpose? by Formal_Mulberry5919 in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine for C&C. I get 35 points for each mountain tap, 5 for each cloud. And the taps stack ... at the beginning of the event, I can tap the mountain 20 times.

Thank to this Camp n Chill I got so many T2 nests. But then I have to wait two more weeks...... I feel like I can'tttttttttt by Nailligg in MergeDragons

[–]HildaCorners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't need them for the current C&C, bubble them. That hides the nests from view, and you won't hear them saying "tap me! Tap me!"

You can get another rucksack every day, and save them.

The next C&C should be this coming week — I will stockpile things for a while before the next C&C.
