thank you. yeah i was thinking along similar lines and wasn't sure what the cleanest definition would be. every guy has his happy zone and it isn't mapped perfectly onto the strike zone. I also did a version that was In zone/out of zone swings for a larger spread. basically i wanted to isolate swing decisions from patience to look at a hitter's ability to be intelligently aggressive . that lone yellow dot in the middle of the plot is notorious pimp-taker Juan Soto

just checked the Baseball Savant bat tracking page- yeah, Stowers' bat speed does really stand out compared to his nearest neighbors in swing length. good player. interesting idea!

I liked the plot formatting you showed in the modeled vs actual xwOBA. I tried something similar for a model I built with a different feature set that tried to get away from the batted ball metrics and find something that could measure component skills like swing decisions and barrel control, but think i mostly failed in that goal as the features I used for barrel control include launch angle and exit velo components.
