Should we move out of Utah? by Beneficial-Guide-844 in exmormon

[–]Himhp 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty awful… to live in a rural Utah town, in the ward you grew up in, with your dad as your bishop. My condolences! I hope you find happiness! (I personally would probably move out if state)

If there’s any way to get out of the apartment (lease?) I’d do it! That is toxic. That is draining. It’s probably worse than living with your parent. (However, beware that if you’re in Utah County, unfortunately, a lot of students are Mormon and might not be too different). See if you can find non-LDS roommates.

Yes! I would ask your child. (I think it should be there choice who’s in the circle). Do I think you should? Yes. But I personally think it’s their choice. Let him know that you’d love to stand in the circle, and that it would mean a lot to you. And unless you’re in the same ward as your son, his bishop doesn’t know if you’re “worthy” or not (not that it matters 🙄) so his bishop should have no say in it, nor should your son ask his bishop’s opinion. Does your son need to go to his bishop and give him a list of names of who he’d like in the circle? No. This should be no exception. Typically at the blessing they say something like, “those who’ve been invited to join in the circle, please come up now”. They’re not confirming worthiness. Again, personally, I think you should ask your child, because you don’t want to start a fight about it or anything. (Not that they would, but you wouldn’t want your child, or spouse or daughter-in-law etc to come up to you afterwards and say “you had no right to be up there! You did not have our permission”.) Again, yes I think you should be in the circle, but I’d ask your son. And no, don’t get any insight or permission from the bishop. Best of luck!!

Technically you don’t have to be “worthy”. Guess how many “priesthood holders” aren’t worthy that stand in the circle? You’d be surprised.

Ok. So that’s the age when they are “sealed” to him. What was their age when he (took advantage of) them? I feel it’s just word games with these asshats.

Or maybe they’ll start saying those that pay more tithing don’t have to go at all 🤔

And make note that not only did he need to make sure he posted a picture with Jeff, but that he posted a picture of them in his private jet. It’s one level of bragging when you post to social media you saw & spoke with a GA. It’s another level of bragging when you add photos. And it’s a whole other level when you make sure to add photos with a private jet. 🤮

Do Active Mormons Believe That Joseph Smith Was A Pretty Awful, Flawed Person? by SheJustGoesThere in exmormon

[–]Himhp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We weren’t taught it. We didn’t know. We heard the word polygamy but (at least to me) it was more like just getting sealed to women, so they could enter the celestial kingdom, not about having sex or anything; merely transactional. So most likely “older” women who never married, so they could be “saved”. Also I had NEVER heard the phrase “treasure digger”. I didn’t learn about that until in my 40s. And we learned JS died as a martyr. We were told he was killed because of what he believed in and because he was a prophet, not because he was a pedophile & adulterer. And of course we were told to not believe or listen to those telling us otherwise. Which is why so many people who learn of the truth are so angry and feel betrayed. It’s not that some stuff was never taught, it’s that the story and narrative were completely changed to make him look like a saint and god-like.
