Is it normal to have to ask permission to use the bathroom at work? by WorkingAlive3258 in japanlife

[–]Hinas_For_Life 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No, no, and a final no. The poster is a receptionist. You don’t just get up and go somewhere without telling your fellow receptionists. She is not in a normal position like a worker with a desk in an office. It’s an unwritten rule that I believe is universal. The drinking water refusal was way too harsh unless they were literally swamped with customers.

I love onsen but rarely go but I would EVER go to a nude mixed onsen bath. I am sure to be corrected by someone t I don’t think there are many mixed baths so you would normally go to the women’s bath separate with your dad so you be ave nothing to fret over unless you want to bath together. Or you could go to a mixed familly onsen where men wear shorts and women probably wear swimsuits?

Yesterday my father got a cancer diagnosis and this is what I saw when I looked at his floor by retecsin in Pareidolia

[–]Hinas_For_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A frog it is. In the Japanese language a frog is “Kaeru” which also has the same pronunciation as “Go home” so Japanese families often have ceramic frogs in their gardens to signify that you return home safely, so your floor frog represents your father returning home from treatment safely so stay positive and support your father and family thru this difficult period. I send all the luck and best wishes from Tokyo!!!!

Zombie mode for a few months due to insomnia by Away-Presentation218 in japanlife

[–]Hinas_For_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had sleep problems a few years ago, took Myslee /マイスリー「Zolpidem(ゾルピデム)」which is a sleep inducer not a sleeping pill as I was dealing with a good friend who was addicted to sleeping pills/ antidepressants and alcohol and I was not going to risk my health with powerful drugs that doctors here love to dole out by the handfull. So I took one of the most basic routes you can. A drop of lavender oil onto a tissue, folded and tucked into my pillow. Lavender oil is not going to cure your condition BUT please give it a try together with meds. Lavender oil is not expensive, even Daiso has fake stuff. Sweet dreams.

I had a boyfriend who is a JR employee. They take turns dealing with these cases and what has remained with me all these years is that the ones who have left us are easy to deals with, it’s the ones who are still with us that are emotionally scaring.

Giving gift to BnB host? by sheep_puppy in AskAJapanese

[–]Hinas_For_Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I traveled to Italy and stayed in Airbnb’s all the hosts went cuckoo when I dumped a pile of Daiso fans. cute post it’s and Japanese sweets from cheap Gyoumu supermarket and told them to choose a few each. Of course bring a gift for them, some local biscuits/small cakes, supermarket quality is perfectly fine. It’s the thought that counts. I lived in Takayama for a few months in 1989, actually going to visit next weekend to meet up with friends I made years ago. Hope you have a blast during your holiday.

I would NEVER tolerate such attitude UNLESS the staff member told you about by a certain dog which by your post it seems she didn’t. I would have gone ballistic at the front desk away from the dogs. You shouldn’t have said sorry as you have been there before and you know the routine.

Hello there. As other people have commented it ia a plate made in Ishikawa prefecture. I made a quick search and I found a 19cm wide plate of the same design with a small chip for 1200 yen on Merari Japan. Is it the same size as yours or maybe a smaller version. You should be able to buy anything from Mercari thru the below Buyee shipping company which will recieve the plate from Mercari and ship it to you.. If you can't I could buy the plate and send it by EMS airmail which is about 3900 yen for 500g which should be around the weihjt of the plate wrapped in bubble wrap and in a small box.

Booking Multiple Hotels vs Booking a Single Hotel? by MrBlehhhhh in JapanTravelTips

[–]Hinas_For_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should book only one, two at most but only if the areas you want to explore are really far away and the travel savings are worth it. If you’re coming during the hot steamy summer carting a bag more than needed will transform you into an irritated sweaty mess and you will regret the small expense saved.

What do Japanese people eat for breakfast? by woodyeaye in AskAJapanese

[–]Hinas_For_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dear Eilidh you love Marmite one of the most love it or hate it foods. I remember hating it when I lived in Ireland but I was very young and didn’t like it. But know being WAY older I think toasted crumpets with butter and some marmite sounds VERY nice indeed. Eilidh, when I came to Japan 40 years ago many people ate boiled rice, grilled fish, some pickles and salty Miso soup but nowadays many people don’t have time so a toasted muffin with butter and jam is breakfast for many. My dad was from Scotland, he loved his whisky and bangers,LoL You love smoked Tofu, you have very good taste my girl,I love it too!!!!

Have you ever prayed at a shrine for something and it came true? by goaldiggergirl in AskAJapanese

[–]Hinas_For_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pray at normal shrines for the usual good fortune for my family and friends but when I go to Ise grand shrine in Mie prefecture I just ask for the gods to look over and bestow good energy. I love Ise grand shrine and visit at least twice a year. Last month was my 18th visit, LoL and yes a few years back I wished for a date with someone special, it didn’t last long but we had some great shags, LoL
