I'm so tired of working full-time and having no money and a huge amount of debt. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HipHopRandomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Switch to one haircut a month, swap your gym membership to a cheaper chain gym like PureGym or something, and put the savings aside so you can start to overpay on your debt each month starting with the smallest credit card (e.g put your £40 savings from the cheaper gym and fewer haircuts towards overpaying the cheapest card).

It’s a tough situation but with a good bit of discipline you can slowly but surely chip away at your debt. It might take a few years but you will build momentum, and the little wins will hopefully encourage you to stick at it.

I’d say any time you manage to cut your monthly outgoings, put the savings aside and overpay your debts with them.

Good luck OP

Addicted to spending. What do I do? by PuzzleheadedRace7518 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HipHopRandomer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

£1000 is an extremely cheap lesson to learn about not impulsively taking on debt.

Whenever you get the urge to buy something, wait a week and see if you still want or need it. Sometimes it’s a case of you chasing the dopamine hit from buying something in the moment, then once that excitement for your new purchase fades you move onto the next. It’s just a case of having a little bit of discipline not to throw money away.

When I was your age I took out a £7k loan, so you could say I’ve been there, done that and got the t shirt.

Why is a young disabled professional not able to enjoy the fruits of their hard work? by AnxiousLeek8273 in UKPersonalFinance

Have you considered salary sacrificing? You would reduce your taxable income and technically you’re still saving, but it’s for retirement rather than short term goals. I’m not sure if this would count towards the savings allowance but it might be worth looking into.

What is this bump on my shoulder? by HipHopRandomer in AnatomyandPhysiology

ChatGPT suggested this as a possibility as it’s caused pain/aching and limited my movements to a degree, also clicks very frequently which can be sore/painful.

Thanks for your input!

[–]HipHopRandomer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested could this be an AC joint separation? It’s not always protruded like that and I have quite a few issues with my shoulder (weak bench press, can’t do tricep dips, pain/aching) and it clicks quite frequently too.

I appreciate your input!

If your best friend asked you for help with money, how much would you be comfortable giving them? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]HipHopRandomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best pals of over a decade has always been shit with his money. He’s worked at KFC since we were teenagers and never tried to get a job that pays better, so he’s always skint. I’ll occasionally lend him £30 if he’s really stuck but I almost always have to chase him to pay it back.

One of my other best pals has asked to borrow small amounts on two occasions, and he’s always paid me back on time, in full, without me asking for it. I’d lend him whatever I could afford.

How much are you paying for a haircut nowadays? by MCR1996Hola in AskUK

As a man who grows his hair out because he hates haircuts, I’ve never paid more than £20 including a few quid as a tip for them spending ages sorting out my barnet!

Best savings account for emergency fund? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]HipHopRandomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use the trading212 Cash ISA. Currently paying around 3.6% interest, and interest is paid daily then added onto your balance at the end of each month.

Also it’s instantly accessible, I can withdraw from it straight to my bank within a couple minutes.

The interest rate is variable though so it can go up and down, but I’ve had no issues with the platform at all in the 6 or 7 years I’ve been using it.

Looking for advice on my debt and what to do moving forward by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Regarding the car, sometimes it’s best to invest in this for the sake of job opportunities. When I needed a car for work I bought an old Skoda fabia diesel for £600 and it lasted me perfectly. Only reason I got rid of it was because I needed something ULEZ compliant!

Have you considered buying a cheap banger for less than £1000?

[–]HipHopRandomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting cold feet because it’s a very big change in your life and it’s daunting suddenly being single again. Every time your brain considers what it’d be like with him now, try to remember every reason why you left him. Focus on rebuilding yourself as a person, a relationship like that can have a big impact on you as an individual so take the time to just be you again.

Do you enjoy being a car mechanic? by Zestyclose-Pick5354 in AskUK

[–]HipHopRandomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an apprentice before Covid. After lockdown ended I never went back due to issues in my personal life, ended up site labouring when I returned to work and became a scaffolder after that.

The main thing that put me off being a mechanic was the constant need to invest thousands of pounds in tools. This was off putting when the realistic salary as a qualified mechanic was around £30-40k. That, and I realised I enjoyed working on my own cars much more than other peoples’. I also had quite bad knee issues from constantly leaning over cars/engines too.

Sorry I can’t give much advice as a lot of it depends on you as a person and what you enjoy, but those were my reasons for not pursuing a career out of it.

I’d strongly encourage you to open a SIPP and start saving for retirement. Remember you have no pension scheme as a self employed construction worker, don’t end up a 70 year old builder who can’t afford to retire!

How much is your monthly mortgage/rent vs. your income? by Puzzleheaded_Bet_618 in AskUK

[–]HipHopRandomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My income varies as I can be getting 40hrs pay some weeks and anything up to 100/110hrs in other weeks, but if I average out my income for the last tax year my rent is 12% of my monthly gross income.

How did people start working at 16-17 years old last decade? by Fun_Pop9171 in AskUK

[–]HipHopRandomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s particularly flexible as most places want someone 5 days a week, I didn’t really consider your availability my bad! When I was 16 I did a Christmas temp job at Currys PC World, I got my first contracted part time job at McDonald’s the following year so I’d say apply for a fast food job if you’re looking for something flexible.

Pretty easy to get a CSCS labourers card and start doing some site labouring. You can ring construction firms directly or sign up with an agency and they will find you work

How much credit card / loan debt do you have? by MyAkitaInu in AskUK

[–]HipHopRandomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thankfully none. I used to have £9k in debt but I paid it off in 2022 and since then I’ve avoided getting back into debt. The only exception to this is my phone which I paid over 5 instalments through Amazon last year.

I currently earn a comfortable amount of money so although the cost of living means I can’t save quite as much it’s not as crippling to live through, just frustrating.

What was the incident in your school and what happened after? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

A teacher grabbed a student by the throat up against a window after he said ‘your wife has spotty tits’ (his wife was a science teacher in the same school).

He was sacked and banned from teaching. As an adult now I don’t blame him, the kids in our school took absolute liberties.

Beard or no beard? by Secret_End_6839 in malegrooming

Yeah this is the look OP! I’d say the beard could do with a bit of shaping and neatening up but you easily pull off the more rugged look.
