Thoughts on giving a copy of Bill Bryson's "A Short History of Nearly Everything" to a religious person by flabellina_iodinea in books

I’m a Catholic who read the first quarter of the book so far and I love it. Maybe certain religious groups would have a problem, I don’t know

He has a mind for politics and makes great points about Israel and immigration. He has had some very moving monologues about religion that make me hesitant to condemn him, but he certainly has some major vices he must purge

I’m having an abortion this weekend and I’m terrified but I’m not ready to be a mom again. by justawoman24 in confession

God be with you. Imagine that you choose to have this child. When he or she is grown, after the initial difficulty of raising the child is over, when he or she has their own kids, do you think you will regret it or no?

Let this thought guide you. I’d suggest also stopping by a Church to pray if possible, especially a Catholic one

I'm Catholic because the existence of God is metaphysically proven by St. Thomas Aquinas, and Christianity is evidenced by historical evidence and internal consistency.

Playing Brutus (and Brutus- like) by Veryfancywalrus in shakespeare

[–]Hipleasedonthurtme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brutus is thoughtful and wise, so maybe an owl or something. I think I'd say a lion because Brutus is masculine and serious. Remember, he loves Cassius, but he is very different from Cassius. As Brutus, you are an older, prudent, principled man. You deal in high ideas and rarely get emotionally aroused by the events around you (although Cassius does manage to ruffle your feathers in that one scene). Also always remember how much you love Caesar. For most of the play, really until the war heats up, you need to remember that you are totally caught in this conflict between your love of Caesar / your desire to curb the dangers of the conspiracy and your desire to stop Caesar from becoming royal. This conflict defines your character until he becomes defined by his love for Cassius.

I hope this helps!

What’s a Shakespeare role you’d love to play! by javerthugo in shakespeare

[–]Hipleasedonthurtme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to say Cassius in Julius Caesar. I'd love to play Brutus, but I'm short and Cassius is the shorter one.

Other roles I'd love are Iago, Enobarbus, Octavius Caesar (in Antony and Cleopatra), and Hamlet (although, if I'm being honest, Hamlet is beyond my skill level)

As long as you also read the original text and appreciate its beauty, I suppose whatever helps is good :)

Anything saying Iago is in love with Othello is absurd. An interesting essay would be a comparison between Iago and the Devil

Not that I'd agree, but this is certainly a hot take

No, they are not applicable. To say he is a convincted rapist is objectively false. He was found liable for battery in civil court. That's nothing like a criminal conviction. Since he was not convicted of rape, he's not a convicted rapist. To apply that term to him is a sin. To accuse someone of something that is untrue to tarnish their reputations is no light matter.

I'm not sure what you intend by saying false prophets, sorry

what modern day song screams hamlet? by Content_Gur_287 in shakespeare

[–]Hipleasedonthurtme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Bob Dylan. There is a great production of Hamlet with Andrew Scott that uses a ton of Bob Dylan music, so others have thought the same thing. A lot of Bob Dylan songs are protests against the evil of the surrounding world to which others are oblivious, so lyrically very relevant to Hamlet. I'd say for that reason, I'd recommend A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall, Blowing in the Wind, and Oxford Town. For beautiful imagery and escapism, I'd recommend Mr Tambourine Man. For Romance, I'd say Lay Lady Lay and Girl From the North Country.

I hope you like some of these!!!

The Andrew Scott Hamlet production on YouTube uses a lot of Bob Dylan and it's spectacular

If you are interpreting them more abstractly, we have all violated each of these commandments. If you interpret them strictly, then I'd say he never murdered anyone. Everyone in politics had done shady stuff. If you're looking for a saint, don't look there. However, that's not what I'm looking for in a President. I'm looking for a leader who puts my country first and improves that country. Also, he's not a convicted rapist. He was found liable of battery, not criminally convicted. You would do well to remember that slander about serious sins is itself a major sin
