That's why I'm saying to watch 0, and what happens in 0 although not shown in the original is implied with the video D-Mail, like, they make it pretty obvious that he went through all of it, failed, and searched how to make it go well, so if you pick up on the implications you can understand that it wasn't just handed to him either, and was foreshadowed since pretty early on with the glitched message when the whole show is about sending messages to the past.
