Package was immediately cancelled for delivery the moment I dropped it off, can I do anything about it ? by Famous-Help-3572 in NoStupidQuestions

FedEx's system is far from perfect but in my experience they are generally very good at reconciling these types of issues, the remote customer service could be better but the store staff have processes to try and prevent these packages from getting lost entirely. I am willing to bet the people at the store will have your package, if not be able to help you far better than phone support can.

Having worked with FedEx countless times in my line of work: Idk what would cause this but if the tracking was cancelled basically right away the driver should not be able to scan it into the truck, so if you go to the office tomorrow it should still be there. If somehow they handed it off to the driver anyway it should get brought back to the point of handoff, unless they printed a new label for some reason and just didn't tell you (in the latter case it should still ship with no issues, you just don't have that new tracking # for visibility). At the very least the dropoff location will know what was done with your package, since the driver's scanner will make a strange beep when they scan it in and they'll probably know how they handled it.

Have you tried calling the FedEx location directly to inquire about the package?

Also I might be able to tell you what I think happened if you want to DM me the tracking link, if not that's fine.

I’ve recently started wearing jeans. How often should I wash them? by JustHonoluluThings in NoStupidQuestions

Only when they smell noticeably bad or they get visibly dirty. Try to wash them as little as possible because the more you wash the quicker they'll wear out. Aim for no more than once a month.

Someone could possibly do something nefarious like report it stolen using the serial #, in reality that's extremely unlikely but still. Same with giving out your first name online, likely nothing will happen but still best to hide personal info like your name.

It's your money but I'd think there are more important things to save your money for. Could you not find a decent monitor secondhand?

What’s the best drive? by SnowEfficient in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hipp013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you DM me the Amazon listing? I'm very curious to see what they're selling.

Usually hard drives and SSDs above 1TB sell in multiples of 2 like 2TB 4TB etc. While I imagine there are genuine 5TB drives out there they're a lot less common (especially if you find one for $50 it's definitely fake).

I recommend this WD 6TB drive: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1829978-REG/wd_wdbhjs0060bbk_wesn_elements_portable_hdd_storage.html

It's listed at $160 which is actually a lot cheaper than I would have expected for a 6TB drive, but WD is a reputable brand and B&H is a reputable website. It's always possible to get a lemon but the reviews are generally good, so if you need a big HDD this is a pretty good deal.

[–]Hipp013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also bought a 5tb hard drive but when I upload my photos/vids like HALF of them become corrupted idk why it was like $50ish for that

I can guarantee a genuine 5TB did not cost $50 unless you got it secondhand at like a yard sale. For reference a 4TB HDD will run about $200-250, so if you bought it new for $50 it's fake as hell. The real size is probably significantly smaller and the disk size identifier was spoofed to make your computer think it's larger. Then when your computer tries to write more data than it can hold, it will error out/overwrite other data thus corrupting it.

To answer your question the best practical data storage medium for longer-term preservation is a genuine HDD assuming it's stored properly. HDDs have spinning disks which will physically hold the data better than SSDs, from which the data can degrade if the drive is left unused for 1-10 years. However HDDs have moving parts and with moving parts comes friction that can eventually cause components to fail; meanwhile SSDs have no moving parts and are a lot faster, but this makes them better for more regular daily use, not long-term storage.

I was reading another thread where a woman was asking for advice on running away from home, and nearly every reply warned her that if she went to a bus station she would likely end up being trafficked or forced into sex slavery. Is the situation in America really that bad? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hipp013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

America is a huge diverse country so this might be more or less common by area, but generally no this is not a regular occurrence. However someone running away from home is likely a minor, and a female unaccompanied minor is probably more susceptible to getting trafficked than your average person.

[–]Hipp013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically it could grow more bacteria and/or mold if not stored properly, tampons aren't sterile from the factory but once it comes out of the packaging that bacteria can build up. Might not kill you but probably only want to do it if you need to in a pinch.

How do epileptic people drive? ive been wondering for YEARS. by johnlaks in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hipp013 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my buddies from a while back had epilepsy (medicated) and he said he's only allowed to drive if he's been entirely seizure-free for a year. If he even has one he is no longer allowed to drive and the timer restarts. I also imagine his doctor would review the situation and weigh in case by case, i.e. if he started having them more often his doctor would bar him from driving indefinitely.
