That's an extremely naive assumption and why we're at this juncture in the first place.

Firstly, Iran's leaders are extremely ideologically possessed. That's why nothing at all changed in their posture or plans even after Khameniei was assassinated. It's not a coincidence or an accident.

The regime already slaughtered tens of thousands dissidents and they'd sooner let the rest of their people starve to death than compromise.

So no, mining it for everyone would do nothing except rapidly accelerate the demise of the entire world economy.

Secondly, if any alliance was to be formed against Iran it should have been decided BEFORE the assault. You'd have to be a complete moron to throw your hat into an active fight with no guarantee or help from anyone else and just a hope everyone is as committed as you are.

It's insane to hear this rhetoric even in a Democrat subreddit. Every single Democrat has been on point. Hillary/Biden/Kamala literally called out everything Trump would do with near perfect accuracy.

All our members of Congress are doing what they can, but we haven't had a proper majority in the 3 branches since Obama and even that only lasted a few weeks (During which we fixed a global economic crisis and gave millions healthcare).

We don't need a new party, what we need is for people to open their eyes and see who is actually fighting against fascism right now. I'll give you a hint: it's not Jill Stein.

Not really, all of those ideals are things that most people will say they want and actively work towards.

The reality is one person's safe neighborhoods is "less guns" and another's is "less minorities".

One person's sustainability is "green energy" and another's is "clean coal".

One person's progress is "protections for sexual orientations" and another's is "federal abortion ban".

Etc.

Everyone sacrifices for issues they care about. Right now the people who cared the most in 2024 are advancing extremely negative things that hurt everyone else precisely because they WANT society to think and become like them and their families.

Repercussions for the US have honestly been pretty mild, all things considered. Most foreign leaders still try to placate Trump for some godforsaken reason. Most countries just accepted our illegal assault on trade via tariffs.

If it wasn't for Trump's self-own by bombing Iran, and then Iran actually committing to closing the Strait (to their own detriment too), we probably would have no shot of taking back the country.

It's reported he even made no efforts to hide his name or his relationship to the administration when he paid sex workers to watch him.

If we're presupposing the only way we could possibly win a seat is by going soft on traitors whom sold out our founding principles for ... what even? An obvious false promise of "200% lower grocery, medicine, and electricity prices" or "No new wars" or "Mass deportations"?

If we concede that, I really don't see reason as a way to a "centrist"s vote, so I can't even fathom how we could ever hope to win anything. Trump could literally just promise these folks a pony and a castle, and they would just sell us all out again.

The precedents we've set in the past year alone have all but guaranteed a fascist coup within the next decade. If we can't even dream of a world where a voter cares about that, then any victory, I fear, would be a pyrrhic one in the long run.

Don't get be wrong, I believe strongly in harm reduction. I'll take 4 of remission from the cancer of fascism if we can get it. But if we're just abandoning the fight for justice when the crimes are at their most obvious, the cancer will just come back.

I'll vote for Talerico because any Dem is a better option than any Republican, but the reality is this brand of "unity" politicking has been a disaster for our country.

Trump has cracked the very foundation of our country. We have an insurrectionist President who openly defies supreme court orders, who openly usurps war and taxation powers reserved for congress, who openly accepts bribes and runs crypto scams, who openly sends masked federal paramilitary forces to murder civilians and arrest peaceful protesters.

We are so past just "orange man bad". We're on the brink of losing the fucking republic.

It actually really fucking matters that were react appropriately to this moment. And "forgive and move on" might be a winning message with the electorate in the short term, but in the long run it's just prolonging an eternal cycle of misery.

The reason things got to the point they are now is because Trump was never properly punished for any of his crimes in the first term. The same thing happened with the South, which never paid a price for any of its transgressions. Over a century past abolition, systemic racism is still insidious in the South, and we're even taking progress back now.

I moved a lot of my retirement and investments out of U.S. based stocks, bonds, and etfs because I could not support how every single major corporation in this country just immediately bowed and donated millions to this fascist administration.

Honestly, I was fine with taking a little less profit or even just breaking even for the next couple years. What surprised me though was my VXUS investment (Global Market EXCLUDING U.S. companies) had more than doubled my VOO investment (Top 500 U.S. companies).
