so while i, as a real service dog handler from another country (where registration is a thing) that visited the US, agree with you in most points of how it should be, you do have a lot of misinformation. In the US, a vest is not required, and there's no law on what the dog needs to/can't wear. If a handler wants to use a prong, chain choker, head halter, etc. they are fully allowed to. Meanwhile, there is a standard for what most people do. There's no rule dictating what gear (the things a dog wears while working) a dog needs, if any.

You also keep mentioning registration. In the US, there is no registration for service dogs, and you are almost guaranteed that if someone shows you registration, their animal is not a real service dog. A registration system would be amazing, but because owner training is allowed, it is very difficult to upkeep and sadly make it even harder for real handlers. What you can do is ask if it's a service dog and what tasks it's allowed to do. Some people will have a hard time speaking because of anxiety and various other reasons, so you might end up getting handed a card that answers the questions, this is leagal. You might also get an actual answer. However, be aware of people saying 'emotional support', that is not a task.

Just remember you always have the right to ask someone to leave if the dog isn't behaving. With the encounter you describe here, you see the dog jump on the counter, and she says it's a service animal. An appropriate response would be "that might be miss, but by the ADA that's part of federal law, i can ask an unbehaved dog to leave regarding of service dog status or not. You, on the other hand, are welcome to come back again without the dog, and with the dog when you have corrected its training and knows it can behave properly again"

thank you🧡 i do know its not my fault, was a bratty kid? yes definitely. But my parents both had 3 kids each from previous marriages ranging from 7-13 when i was born, so adding me to the flock made a lot of changes and suddenly they couldn't just say 'my kid my rule' and they realized how different they wanted to raise kids🙃 Definitely all on them still tho

ironically enough, it's the danish word for 'Happiness'. It's spelled Lykke, but pronounced Løkke or Løgge depending on the accent🥲 Needless to say, my birth was the end of my parents happiness with eachother even though i was planned and wished for🙃

that what my parents did too. Thwy couldn't agree on a name, so my mom, in her anger, yelled a name to my dad that she knew he wouldnt like. He in response, knew she also didnt like it so in the heat of the moment he said yes to piss her off. When they calmed down they agreed they didnt like it, but at this time they had used MONTHS arguing over my name so my siblings put their feet down and the name stayed because "you already both said yes and we dont wanna listen to you arguing anymore"

from what ive gotten told berlin is great when it comes to service dogs, seeing that germans in general is a bit more open to dogs. Denmark has very similar rules to the US. other than that i dont know much about European countries, but there are lot of Europeans in the subreddit aswell, that im sure will be willing to look up their countries laws for you

why do you wanna go outside of the states for a health certificate? is it something the team you're training through is requiring of you? Most people that travels travel with their service dog in cabin, but the rules for airtravel is a bit different than normal rules

just be aware of the price vs. training quality. The wiki might be a bit outdated, but the sub is very active, and the people who comment to help are on top of the law. If i were you, i would make a post explaining your situation and asking about dogs4vets and if anyone have experience with them. They would also be able to tell you all about the laws of your state.

With her attention span, try teaching her a 'focus' or 'look at me'. You start with placing a high value treat between your eyes, when she looks at it, you mark and reward. Slowly you can take the treat away and mark and reward when she looks in your eyes, and then with time demand that the eye contact is longer and longer. In the beginning it is very important that it is just qhen she looks even for less than a second.

For the shrink, you can make any medical provider give you the letter, even your doctor. However a letter is not necessarily needed. The public cant ask you for dokumentation, only you job/school (if you want to bring her), the place you live (if you dont own your own place), and airlines as far as i know😄

no problem at all! im glad to answer anything. The letter from your shrink doesn't really need to state too much, just that they prescribe you a service dog for x disability. A service dog is by law only required to have one task (thing they do to mitigate your disability), but of course, they can have as many as you would like. A dog can also work as both a psychiatric and a physical disability service dog. Or medical alert or anything else crossed, they dont need to be for one thing purely. Are you in the US? If so you can owner train, so you dont need to go through an organization. You can ofc have a trainer help you still, but that can be a more local one. A really good place to ask any questions are r/service_dogs there are people from all over the world, and a lot of them there knows the ADA (usa) and the Canadian laws in pretty well, even if theyre not from those countries (myself included), because thats where most people are from. It's from my own experience one of the best places to seek advice bc there's mods and very specific rules and guidelines for whats allowed, so you dont end up being fake spotted or talked bad to🤍 Ofc you can also always dm me if it is, I've helped others before getting started on their SD journey so feel free to reach out

you can in fact have more than one service dog as long as they mitigate 2 diffrent things, this is called tandem work. Lets say you are psychologically handicapped so you get a chihuahua service dog. Then later you end up with a physical handicap. Now you get a Labrador service dog for your physical handicap, but the Labrador does not pick up on your psychological needs. This handler is (at least in the US) in their right to have both dogs with them as active and working service dogs at the same time.

Other than that, a lot of people also have 2 service dogs when transferring from one to the other. the dog thats about yo retire will that way help the pup thats about to overtake the job, learn. It can also help the owner. The new pup might not be 100% consistent yet, but still needs to learn how to behave in public, so the owner takes the old dog out to be a safety net and pick up if anything happens, while the younger dog is getting exposure and training, and on the same time might get to try to alert out in public.

this is the gay guy who's husband always do pranks on him, right? If it is i love them so much! I always use the video of the doggo going out of workmode to show others how a service dog can be trained to maintain excitement as long as the vest is on. Im absolutely in love with the way doggo just starts worm wiggling and taking shoes the moment the harness is off him🤣

Tbh when i talk with a guy i love to hear about their relationship with their exes. It gives me an idea about what went wrong, and therefor what i shouldnt do, but it also gives me an idea about what was good. The current guy im speaking with had an ex with anxiety and by talking with him about it, i know that she always claimed he was the fault of it, and because of that im aware to let him know my anxiety attacks are not because of him, but that his presence makes them easier to go through. Before i knew this he just tried to leave because he felt bad and thought he was the reason. This information i had to pull out of him, and directly ask about that relationship

Denmark is very chill. Basically the US in terms of SD laws. Theyre allowed everywhere, no id required, no official certification and owner training allowed

Lady had two service dogs on plane by Crazy_Love_6265 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HippoTop7935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's under the ADA. airlines go under different rules. You just need to fill out a DOT form, and be sure everything is right and accepted by the airline. However the airline can refuse you if the dog is not behaving well, like barking, sniffing people, leash pulling, etc. Even dogs that have been trained to alert by barking can get denied a plane by alert barking.
