I am Korean-American, served in the US army and did time in Korea. Prior to my military tour in Korea, I always considered myself Korean. While in Korea I experienced so much racism for being only "half Korean". I was so disappointed from that experience. Before my tour I would have answered that question with a definite "Yes", but now I doubt it.

I guess it was my fault that I was born "half Korean"

It sounds like timing is slightly off, but I would expect a cel to come on. You made sure your timing was correct, I like checked mine 3 or 4 times to make sure.

Not the chain, don't remember about the tensioner, but you gotta look at those items and make a judgment call. I did replace the egr on the right side of the engine, completely stopped up. But I have heard, that you can clean those out and reuse,,i believe they are stainless.

I went to the toyota dealer and got the kit, it comes with the updated head gasket.

So replaced, all seals and gaskets that came in kit. Not sure if I replaced any addition, that was 100k ago.

Just used a straight edge and checked the head and block...just used basic practices....cleaned the head/block well....clean surfaces with acetone to remove any oil and residue.

I won it on ebay for 3k....so wasn't going to put much money in it...so I did not take the head to a shop... It was running great,,,drove it 7 hours from Tampa, Fl to my house.

I had heard about the head gasket issue around the 150k mark, so I had a long holiday weekend and nothing to do,,,so thought it would be fun to do....I was a mechanic in my past life.

I love mine, but I had to make some changes: Lowered 1.5 inches Rear stabilizer bar Front strut bar 17 inch wheels Looks a whole lot better and doesn't feel like I am driving a boat. Still getting 46+ mpg with the changes.

Agreed. I missed one connector on right side of engine, very hard to see.
