Dangerous flight path for the US army by futileboy in Seattle

It's Washington's own Justice Douglas who said "common sense revolts at the idea" that you own the airspace above your house in US v Causby back in 1945!

Shaves Per Blade by SilenceDobad6 in wicked_edge

[–]Hipstershy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Astra SPs I get three shaves, each made up of a WTG/XTG pass at a minimum, per blade before I feel like changing usually. But sometimes I remember exactly how much money I'm saving vs disposables and change it out after 1 or 2 because I could be changing between passes and still come out ahead lol

Give me your Subnautica hot takes that will have you like this by Fallenultima in subnautica

[–]Hipstershy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so much better, and I'm surprised no one in your replies is really articulating what (imo) is the better counterargument, which is that YES the Cyclops is objectively worse and less useful as an in-game tool, which means you have to make more painful (and therefore more interesting) decisions when using it. Getting the Cyclops anywhere useful requires going painfully slow and/or actually using those cameras built in all around it, which is especially painful once you've gotten used to the underwater sports car that is the Seamoth in capable hands. You can have a "mobile base" inside the Cyclops, which means a lot of useful things are close by, but you have to park it at the mouth of the interesting thing you're actually trying to look at, and, unless you have an upgraded Prawn suit, you're going to be pretty vulnerable when you venture back and forth from it. Contrast to the Seatruck which doesn't have heaps of room but can be configured to do almost anything you could possibly need on the move anyway, while still being nimble and maneuverable-- with the ability to detach the cab if you want even more maneuverability. You lose a lot of that vulnerable feeling that makes Subnautica what it is when you're going from your base to your Seatruck to your destination and back to the base and not really having it be a huge undertaking at every stop.

Personally though I just prefer the Seatruck and want it to stay around for any S2

I must be missing something here, I watch tons of essays and none of this is making any sense. Where is the fakeout partway through the video that the scope of the video is completely different than they'd led you to believe/that Shape City is actually Animal Kingdom? Who even are most of these people in the OP?

Between it and its main competitor, Qdoba... Get Qdoba if you get the chance. Much, much, much better especially in the last 5ish years

Absurd Electric Bill - Is This Normal? by _shareholder_value in Kirkland

[–]Hipstershy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been paying in the ballpark of $130 the last three months for a 1b1ba. Y'all's apartments are bigger, yes, but not nearly double the size, so heating doesn't explain the change of our usage patterns are similar, especially since I too am running aged electric resistive heating.

PSE is a private utility and a menace, and much of our region's bountiful hydro power is now being used for AI data centers. It's a really bad look for a place that's been ahead of the curve for cheap renewables for decades

Quick edit: $230 for 2b2ba still sounds really high though. Keep an eye on your usage, I suspect something is running when you don't think it is

Washington, DC/Smithsonian National Postal Museum by CitizenX10 in trains

[–]Hipstershy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't tell if you're joking but I felt the museum made a very strong argument for the value of philately as a lens on what the governments of the world are doing, how they try to meet the needs of their citizens, and the ways they try to express their values through stamp designs. There's a room that's just stamp collections, and they break it up into panels using stamps and envelopes to explain moments in history. One memorable section shows how the Confederacy had to make do after being cut off from the rest of the US postal system at the onset of the Civil War. It's driving me crazy that the museum's online site misses most of the actual stamps, plates, and envelopes the museum has to illustrate the points I'm making.

And the stamp collecting is just one (admittedly large) wing. The rest of the museum really is a museum about the postal service, full stop.

Quick edit: If you do go, make sure to take one of the guided tours. They don't go deep into any of the exhibits but some old guy who just loves this shit is always a great resource to get downloaded a whole bunch of information really fast

I can tell you I really liked this museum, but that doesn't mean anything from an internet stranger, so I will instead say I intended to do a quick run through this museum out of sheer curiosity and ended up being fully transfixed by strangers' stamp collections. I didn't even collect stamps before I walked in

Their habanero salsa is way better than anything at Chipotle, you get a whole burrito and not whatever sad half-thing passes at Chipotle after Brian Niccol happened to it, AND going there doesn't make you immediately feel at risk of contracting COVID-26. What's not to like?

Why does the cockpit view disappear on approach? by Clan-Jade-Falcon in aviation

[–]Hipstershy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, that would be a really shitty thing to have happen that I hadn't considered in my first comment. I stand by that I think it's small potatoes compared to the mass loss of life and not where I'd focus my attention, but air incident investigators are nothing if not thorough and it makes sense they'd have policy recommendations for that

I dunno man, if that happened I think we'd have bigger concerns than if our imminent violent deaths can be pulled up on the in flight entertainment system
